This measure already requires that the taxpayer have acted as host for an entire month in order to claim the credit for that month. The requirement that the taxpayer act as host for a minimum of thirty days has no effect beyond making it impossible to claim the credit during the month of February. Second, the Department suggests the deletion of subsection (b) because section 704 of the Internal Revenue Code would apply to the allocation of this credit.

    Fact Sheet YOUNG AMBASSADORS October 2014 Brigham Young University Contact: Performing Arts Management (801) 422-3576 [email protected] The Young Ambassadors are a group of singers, dancers, and musicians who have gained a reputation for entertaining excellence through energetic and heart-warming musical theater entertainment. The Young Ambassadors perform Heartsongs: Melodies of Love, a stage production celebrating favorites from some of America’s best-loved musical scores like Singing in the Rain, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and the Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella. The show also highlights hits from artists like The Beatles and Michael Bublé. The Young Ambassadors combine professional sound and staging with captivating choreography into a 90-minute presentation. Heartsongs: Melodies of Love includes a 10-piece band and a performing cast of 20 singers/dancers. The group is also supported by a crew of student technicians who control lighting, sound, and give backstage support. The world-traveled Young Ambassadors perform extensively both nationally and internationally. In the past decade, the group has toured over thirteen states and fourteen countries, including Australia, China, Korea, Brazil and Argentina. Their performances cross cultural bounds and are always enthusiastically received. In 2013, the Young Ambassadors toured China. They recently returned from a tour to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam in May 2014. Community outreach and service are integral parts of the Young Ambassador tours. During their 2012 tour to South Africa, the group visited to several orphanages, including the Sparrows Nest AIDS village. The Young Ambassadors traveled to the Nordic countries in May of 2009, visiting Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. They performed almost 30 times in more than a dozen venues.

Founded in 1981, AYA is well respected by high schools and host families across the U.S. AYA is sponsored by the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS) Foundation, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1967 with the assistance of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Its mission is to promote worldwide understanding through cultural exchange. The Foundation awards grants to high schools for projects that encourage intercultural awareness. It also provides scholarships that enable young Americans to study and travel abroad. The Academic Year in America program is a member of the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET). CSIET, established in 1984, is a non-profit organization that oversees quality international educational travel and exchange. It establishes standards for organizations operating international educational travel and exchange programs at the high school level, monitors compliance with those standards, and disseminates information regarding international educational travel organizations. AYA is listed in the 2012–2013 CSIET Advisory List for high schools which ensures a high quality program for participants, students, host families and high schools. AYA participates in the CSIET evaluation process annually. On the basis of materials submitted and reviewed, the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel grants full listing to Academic Year in America in the 2012 – 2013 Advisory List. The CSIET certification mark certifies that this organization complies with the standards set forth in the CSIET Standards for International Educational Travel Programs.

The project has recruited ambassadors from each country who were fully trained as YSDAs. This project gave them the role to create and develop new physical activities for their peer groups in their respective countries. The project also looked to help tackle inactivity among ethnic minorities in their local communities. The YSDA project encouraged the young volunteers to develop these disengaged social groups through physical activities.     At-Large COMS Councilor, International PATRICIO L. ACOSTA BIO STATEMENT: Dr. Acosta is a Professor at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council, CONICET (Argentina) and at the School of Medicine – Universidad de Buenos Aires. He received his MSc with concentration in genetics from the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste and his doctorate in immunopathology from the Universidad de Buenos Aires with the highest honors (summa cum laude). Dr. Acosta research interests include understanding the pathogenesis of respiratory viruses and the host immune response to viral infection, particularly in low-income pediatric populations. His principal aim is to develop research initiatives that translate laboratory findings into interventions with direct impact on the welfare of children. He has received among other distinctions, awards and recognitions from the Argentine Chamber of deputies, Argentine Senate, ISID, etc. In 2016, received the Young Investigator Award from the Pan-American Society for Clinical Virology.
