The resignation of Bronwyn Marshall and her successor Ross Sy- monds did little for the stability of the office .We also lost the services of our administration officer Dan- nette Taylor. Since then we have been very successful in placing new staff in the vacant positions. Peter Marriott the new CEO is very qualified and brings many positives to the position with his experience with baseball and water polo. Tracey Cossi the new administration officer also has many years experience in sport management. Sue Stevenson continues to provide the long term stability to the office and I thank her for her dedication to table tennis. The National insurance scheme is proving TTA can bring cost effective and positive out- comes for all of us. There are many ways TTA can bring savings to all our membership with Peter Marriott looking at many strategies in this area. I thank the Vice President Dave Beaumont for his work on the board over the past six years. His contribution will be missed as he is not standing for election. Dave was a very important part of the decision making and I am sure he will be available in the future for advice if needed. Our AWD programme continues to move forward at a rapid rate with support from the Australian Paralympic Committee and the Australian Sports Commission. TTA is working closely with the Athletes to gain results at the Paralympics in London in 2012. TTA‘s High Performance programme is on track for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The athletes have a very busy programme both at home and overseas with our national coach Brett Clark an integral part of the preparation. With the new constitution the most current topic on the agenda this year, the States and Territories are working closely with TTA to prepare a modern constitution making TTA and its members better armed to meet the challenges of the future. I conclude this report by thanking everyone who has contributed to table tennis over the past year. It takes many hours of volunteer work from everyone to deliver outcomes from the club, State or Territories, and National level. I also thank the Board of management of TTA for their dedication and support. I am very pleased to head this organisation that puts the welfare of members first and foremost. On behalf of the TTA board I thank the members and their participants for their continued support and assistance. I trust these relationships will provide mutual benefits well into the future. I am confident we can meet the challenges before us with continued co- operation. I thank our sponsors The Australian Sports Commission, The Australian Commonwealth Games Association, The Australian Olympic Committee, and The Australian Paralympic Committee for their generous support of our sport. Will Goodier President Table Tennis Australia 2008 Annual Report Page 3 CEO’s Report 2009 has been a difficult year to report on due to the staff changes of the TTA office. Bronwyn Marshall stepped down and was replaced by Ross Symonds; unfortunately Ross did not re- main in the position long leaving in September. Our Administra- tion Officer position has also seen changes with Daniel Fraser being replaced with Dannette Taylor when the position became full time however Dannette left in October and subsequently was replaced by Tracey Cossi who has done a wonderful job organis- ing the office since her start in late October. Brett Clarke has taken over as the National Head Coach and is based in Mel- bourne. All of this staff turn over has unfortunately left a void in the knowledge of what has happened during 2009 and if not for Sue Stevenson’s ongoing role in the office my transition into the job as Chief Executive Officer would have been even more difficult. As an opener I would like to thank the Board especially Will Goodier for their support of the staff and their leadership during these staff transitions. I would also like to thank all of the State Presidents and their committees and staff for their assistance during the later part of this year. I apologise now if I omit an achievement or forget to mention someone as the sport is not just run by an office or a Board but by the many volunteers and members who desire the sport to move forward and achieve its fullest potential. ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2009 The Strategic Plan was revised during 2009 under the guidance of Ross Symonds and the Operation plan for 2010 has been finalised to assist the sport achieve its vision of being rec- ognised nationally and internationally as a leading sporting organisation. The Board has remained virtually unchanged since the AGM last year with the exception of Sue Lang stepping down. Roger Massie was appointed as the Coach of the Paralympic squad and Alois Rosario was appointed as the assistant coach of the Paralympic squad while Barbara Talbot has re- mained as the Manager of the squad. Late in 2009 all TTA committee positions were recalled for under new committee regula- tions. A big thank you to all of the committee members during 2009 in helping the various aspects of the sport move forward. 2009 has also seen a lot of work commenced on reviewing the constitution and governance structure of Table Tennis Australia, ongoing consultation with all State and Territory Asso- ciations will continue to ensure that a best practice model is adopted. Table Tennis Australia 2008 Annual Report Page 4 CEO’s Report cont. 2009 saw the creation of a National Insurance policy which was released in most States on the 1 st January 2010. The National Insurance Policy will allow for all State and Territory Associations to maintain their Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance as well as being able to offer personal accident insurance to their registered members at greatly reduced costs. Through the negotiations with the National insurer Willis, Table Tennis Australia has also been able to secure domestic travel insurance for the members when they travel to National events under their State or Territory banner. This travel insurance will be provided free of charge. TTA in conjunction with Table Tennis Queensland held a World Junior Circuit event on the Gold Coast in late June/ early July. Nine countries competed in the event and I would like to thank Derek Scott and his team for their efforts in staging this international event. Victorian Table Tennis hosted the Australian U15 Cadet Qualification tournament and the Australian Youth and AWD Championships in April, the Australian Open in July, the Austra- lian Closed in August and the Australian Paralympic Youth games in October. New South Wales hosted the World Masters Games and the Australian Veterans Championships in October while Tasmania hosted the Australian Junior Championships. All of these events were run very well and all volunteers need to be congratulated on their efforts. The Athletes Commission continued to provide valuable feedback to the Board regarding player issues and I would like to thank William Henzell for his efforts in providing the ath- letes with a voice to the Board on issues affecting them. The Board and staff have continued to strengthen relationships with TTA’s funding bodies: the Australian Sports Commission, the Australian Paralympic Committee, the Australian Commonwealth Games Association and the Australian Olympic Committee. Without their financial and resource support TTA would be unlikely to be competitive on the world stage or be able to develop the game within Australia. CHALLENGES The greatest challenge for TTA in 2010 and beyond will be the goal of transferring the so- cial or non registered players in to registered participants with the sport thus growing the membership and being recognised as a major participation sport within this country and not just a niche sport. This challenge has been made even more important with the release of the long anticipated Crawford Report. The change in staff throughout the year again has resulted in loss of corporate knowledge, a situation which will hopefully be resolved in 2010. LOOKING AHEAD 2010 will be a big year for the sport with the Commonwealth Games being the pinnacle event for our elite senior athletes. The first Youth Olympic Games will be held in Singapore and we wish our junior athletes all the best in their endeavours to qualify in April.
