VIRTUAL FUN Thousands of participants from 59 countries experience #GIAD20 virtually omen in Aviation International’s 6th Annual Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) was celebrated virtually Septem- ber 26, 2020, with the launch of the exciting new Avia- Wtion for Girls App, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force. This free, year-round experience for girls ages 8-17 connected thousands of participants in 59 countries. “Our goal in delivering a virtual experience for this year’s Girls in Aviation Day was to extend our reach and inspire girls— no matter where they live or learn,” WAI CEO Allison McKay says. “Last year, our in-person events reached girls in 18 coun- tries. This year, the app has already tripled our reach and con- nected with girls all around the world, providing them with access to hours of inspiring content to expand their knowledge about all the opportunities in aviation and aerospace,” she adds. Thousands of free Girls in Aviation Day merchandise kits were mailed to participants’ homes and/or school locations to further enhance the learning experience. The kits included Avi- ation for Girls 2020 magazine, key ring, glitter tattoo, bandana, sticker, a sectional chart, and worksheet—all included in a pink backpack and mailed in a special pink bubble envelope.
