Buick car wiki The Buick Skylark is a passenger car produced by Buick. The model was made in six production runs, during 46 years, over which the car's design varied dramatically due to changing technology, tastes, and new standards implemented over the years. It was named for the species of bird called skylark. Created to mark Buick's 50th anniversary, [2] the Roadmaster Skylark joined the Oldsmobile 98 Fiesta and Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado as top-of-the-line, limited-production specialty convertibles introduced in by General Motors to promote its design leadership. Nevertheless, many languished in dealer showrooms and were eventually sold at discount. Production ran for two years. Based on the model 76R two-door Roadmaster convertible, the Skylark designated model 76X had identical dimensions except height , almost identical appearance, shared its drive train, and had all its standard equipment, plus its few remaining options, including power windows, power brakes, full carpeting, and a "Selectronic" AM radio. It debuted full-cutout wheel openings, a styling cue that spread to the main Buick line. Accenting its lowered, notched beltline was a new " Sweepspear " running almost the entire length of the vehicle, a styling cue that was to appear in various forms on many Buick models over the years. The Skylark was handmade in many respects. Only stampings for the hood, trunk lid, and a portion of the convertible tub were shared with the Roadmaster and Super convertibles. All Skylark tubs were finished with various amounts of lead filler. The inner doors were made by cutting the 2-door Roadmaster's in two then welding the pieces back together at an angle to produce the rakish door dip. -

Manufacturing has declined as a percentage of our GNP, and our needs for manufactured goods are increasingly met by offshore production. The midwest region of the United States relies heavily on manufacturing for its jobs and economic activity, and Genesee County, with its central city of Flint, ranks as one of the middle-sized metropolitan areas of the United States most dependent on the manufacturing sector for its local economy. The midwest manufacturing base is heavily concentrated in automotive production, and Genesee County's manufacturing base is almost exclusively automotive. The automotive activities of the Genesee economy are virtually all concentrated in and supportive of one company, General Motors, and GM activity in Genesee represents almost the entire span of automotive manufacturing activities that the corporation pursues throughout the United States. -

This book or parts thereof may not be reproduced in any form without permission of the publishers, library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 63-13153 First Edition 72516 INTRODUCTION The memorandum I picked up from my desk concerned the fact that the year 1955 was the one-hundredth anniversary of the City of Flint As I thought of the almost incredible sweep of forces shaping modern Flint from the little river-crossing settlement of 1855, I was somewhat amazed to remember I had shared exactly half of Flint's first 100 years. I first saw Flint on September 2, 1905, the year the city celebrated its fiftieth anniversary golden jubilee. I found this valley of the Flint River still heavily grown with trees despite the rich harvest of pine which had brought Flint's booming lumber era. With the end of the pine had come the vehicle industry from which Flint-made wagons, road carts, and bug- gies rolled out to every corner of the country. Then, haltingly, after the turn of the century, automobile manufacturing began. I held the memorandum of Flint's hundredth year in my hand, trying to visualize the factors working so mightily to shape the city. -

car company ABARTH abarth history Karl Abarth was born on November 15th, 1908 in Vienna, Austria. At the age of seventeen, he became an apprentice at Castagna, Italy, designing chassis for motorcycles and bicycles. In 1927, he returned to Austria to work at Motor Thun Motorcycle plant. This was also the beginning of a highly successful racing career. Carlo started racing motorcycles and he began winning. He was awarded the champion of Europe five times, among other racing accomplishments. In 1934, Austria and Germany began to feel the pains of the great Depression and the onset of World War II. Karl decided to move to Italy and further pursue his motorcycle racing career. While in Italy, he became known as Carlo Abarth. During a race in Yugoslavia, Carlo crashed and required hospitalization for over a year. After Carlo recovered he decided to stay in Yugoslavia until the end of the war. He began working with an individual named Ignaz Vok, converting automobiles to run on kerosene. After the war, Carlo moved back to Merano where he began working with an individual by the name of Rodolfo Hruska. Ferdinand Porsche was the founder of the Porsche dynasty and his son, Ferry Porsche had followed in his fathers footsteps. A long time friend of the Abarth family, Ferry Porsche presented Carlo Abarth with a job opportunity to help with the organization of the Porsche motor company. Abarth and Hruska were able to establish relationships with some of Italy's most important automobile manufactures due to this job opportunity. There was a problem, however. -
