Bulgarian Journal of Agricultural Science, 25(1), 215–221 Growing periods can be determined using water balance analysis to decrease harvest risk in certain area. Generally, there are two types of land use for crop, i.e. irrigated land and non-irrigated land. This research was aimed to determine water input, water use and water loss, consumptive use crop water balance and designing a cropping pattern on rainfed paddy fi eld at Wa- tershed Tenggarong. Determination of fi eld capacity and permanent wilting point using soil texture data was input through Bouyoucos hydrom- eter methods. The calculation of land water balance according to Thornthwaite and Mather (1957) was employed to determine the agro-climate condition, particularly the dynamics of soil moisture content to plan a general cropping patterns was used based on monthly data. The planting time period is the water holding capacity > 50% from available water. Water balance monthly indicated that this area has potential growing season about 9 months, water surplus 8 months (439.6 mm year-1) and water defi cits about 3 months (59.7 mm year-1). -

Prophetic social sciences: toward an Islamic-based transformative social sciences Pradana Boy ZTF Department of Malay Studies, National University of Singapore; and Faculty of Islamic Studies, Muhammadiyah University of Malang E-mail: [email protected] Abstract This article discusses of one of the most important type of social sciences devel- oped in Indonesian context. In the midst of debate between Western secular social sciences and Islamic social sciences, Kuntowijoyo offered a genuine yet critical formula of social sciences. The formula called Ilmu Sosial Profetik (ISP) attempted to build a bridge between secular social science and Islamic inclina- tion of social science. This article describes the position of ISP in the context of critical position of Muslim social scientists on the hegemony and domination of Orientalist tendency in studying Islam. At the end, the author offers a conclusion that ISP can actually be regarded as Islamic-based transformative science that can be further developed for a genuine indigenous theory of social sciences from the Third World. Artikel ini membahas salah satu tipe paling penting dari ilmu-ilmu sosial yang dikembangkan dalam konteks Indonesia. Di tengah perdebatan antara ilmu-ilmu sosial Barat sekuler dan ilmu social Islam, Kuntowijoyo menawarkan formula yang orisinal dan kritis dalam ilmu sosial. Pesantren as one of the indigenous Indonesian National Education sub-systems, has special advantages and characteristics in applying character education for their students (santri). G Roger Knight Born in deeply rural Shropshire (UK), G Roger Knight has been living and teaching in Adelaide since the late 1960s. He gained his PhD from London University's School of Oriental and African Studies, where his mentors included John Bastin and CD Cowan. He is an internationally recognised authority on the sugar industry of colonial Indonesia, with many publications to his name. Among the latest is Commodities and Colonialism: The Story of Big Sugar in Indonesia, 1880-1940, published by Brill in Leiden and Boston in 2013. He is currently working on a 'business biography' — based on scores of his newly discovered letters back home — of Gillian Maclaine, a young Scot who was active as a planter and merchant in colonial Java during the 1820s and 1830s. Pondok pesantren adalah suatu lembaga pendidikan Islam tradisonal yang dimana santrinya diwajibkan untuk tinggal dan belajar bersama dibawah bimbingan kyai yang sebagai pengasuh pondok pesantren tersebut. Pondok Pesantren Wali Songo sejak dipimpin oleh Kyai Ulum mengalami penurunan dalam jumlah santri, dan tidak adanya peningkatan dalam pembangunan gedung, karena Kyai Ulum adalah pemimpin kedua setelah Almaghfurlah KH. Imam Syuhadak. Seiiring dengan berjalannya waktu kemudian Pondok Pesantren Wali Songo mengalami sedikit demi sedikit perubahan, pemimpin dan pengurus pondok bekerjasama dengan para anggotanya agar mampu meningkatkan dalam jumlah santri dan penambahan gedung setiap tahunnya. -

This is a literature review about local history of Jakarta and multicultural attitude. In the context of local history of Jakarta, ethnic Betawi as ethnic origin Jakarta is formed from the process of inter-ethnic assimilation imported by the Dutch colonial government in its political and economic interests. In its development, the Betawi ethnic group continued to strengthen and succeeded in establishing their own distinctive identity as well as disturbing with other ethnic groups in Indonesia, although in their present development their existence is decreasing due to development interest which is not able to open wide room for Betawi ethnicity itself because various causes. The Betawi ethnic group has a strong identity concerning Betawi cultural heritage such as strong religious soul, respect for diversity, friendly, homoris, helpful, open, tolerant to differences and so on. As a part of Jakarta's local history, ethnic Betawi history can be explored as a source of inspiration and a source of awareness in instilling multicultural souls in Jakarta, as a metropolitan city with increasingly diverse ethnicity towards social life within the framework of peace and harmony. Karena potensi ekonomi inilah wilayah Tatar Sunda menjadi target penguasaan bangsa-bangsa asing. I. Pendahuluan Penganut paham economic determinism memandang bahwa ekonomi atau materi merupakan faktor penentu gerak sejarah. Bagi orang seperti itu, mengkaji sejarah ekonomi menjadi teramat penting. Akan tetapi sayangnya, sejarah hampir tidak pernah meninggalkan jejak secara lengkap, lebih-lebih untuk periode yang jaraknya dengan kehidupan kita sangat jauh. Padahal keingintahuan kita terhadap masa lampau sering tidak terbendung. Mengungkap sejarah ekonomi masyarakat Sunda pada periode Kerajaan Tarumanagara yang eksis pada abad ke-5 amat sulit karena teramat sedikitnya sumber. Begitu juga pada periode kerajaan Sunda. Problemnya sama adalah kurangnya sumber. Padahal sejarah ekonomi hampir identik dengan sejarah kuantitatif, menuntut banyak data angka; dan itu hampir mustahil diperoleh. -

The period investigated is between the 14th and 19th Century1. Apart from Brunei, the other countries that is considered to have been a part of the Malay Realm includes Malaysia, Indonesia, Patani in Thailand, and the Philippines. It was in these nations where the Malay Realm sultanates once existed, each with its own military, not only Brunei, but also Malacca, Aceh, Demak and Patani. The military2, in general, is defined as a group of people who are authorised to defend a country from any enemy attacks, whether it is from within the country or from external forces. They are also often ordered by a government or leader to attack other countries or certain factions, who they see as the enemy.
