Times Are Good for KONE, Neste Oil and Wärtsilä
Nov 01, 2013 10:39 UTC Times Are Good for KONE, Neste Oil and Wärtsilä M-Index, M-Brain’s quarterly look into the media coverage of 15 large Finnish stock-listed companies revealed that in July-September, KONE, Neste Oil and Wärtsilä were the companies most often at the receiving end of positive publicity. Nokia reached a larger audience than the combined audience of all the other companies surveyed. Positive media coverage – three companies stand out Slightly more than half of KONE’s publicity in the surveyed web publications of Helsingin Sanomat, Kauppalehti and Taloussanomat was positive by tone, an excellent result and a further improvement to the company’s early-year performance. Examples of favourable coverage included positive profit warning and improved stock exchange performance that followed, Forbes placing KONE as an even more innovative company than Google, and reports of large orders that the company won in China. For Neste Oil, almost four tenths of publicity was positive. The company continued its good performance, improving from the last quarter’s one fourth share of positive attention. Most of the favourable coverage was connected with financials. Media reported of Neste Oil’s profit warning and the role of renewables in the improved Q2 result. Wärtsilä was the third company to stand out in terms of the share of favourable publicity. Comparisons to earlier M-Index analyses show that the company has considerably improved its performance in the surveyed media, compared to the last year. More than a third of Wärtsilä’s publicity in Q3 was positive by tone. -

In order to examine just how well the right to use one’s own language actually manifests in Finnish society, I examined the developments of language related rights internationally and in Europe and how those developments manifested in Finland. I also went over Finland’s linguistic history, seeing the developments that have lead us to today when Finland has three separate language act to deal with three different language situations. I analyzed the relevant legislations and by examining the latest language barometer studies, I wanted to find out what the real situation of these language and their identities are. I was also interested in the overall linguistic situation in Finland, which is affected by rising xenophobia and the issues surrounding the ILO 169. -
Tuomas Toivonen of the Public Bath
Ten Commandments Tuomas Toivonen of the Public Bath Bathing Together Is the Opposite of Warfare: The Public Bath as Evidence of Civilization as an Apparatus to Produce Pleasure and Health to the Social, Cultural, and Individual Body In the late 1940s, the Finnish Union of Commercial Saunas issued a single-page document titled “The Ten Commandments of the Bather,” to be displayed at all public saunas. The context: postwar Finland was rebuilding—modernizing through urbanization. Refugees and displaced people from lost territories were being absorbed into the rapidly growing cities, coalescing around state-orchestrated industrialization. It was a time of scarcity and rationing, with people living very close to one another, especially in urban centers. The sauna as an insti- tution for both pleasure and health has always been essential to Finnish culture, and in cities every neighborhood had its own public saunas, serving the influx of rural newcomers along with their established clientele. All were Finns, and thus accustomed to sauna practice, but not necessarily in the setting of the public bath. Hence, the guide for bathing together. 20 Harvard Design Magazine No. 40 / Well, Well, Well 21 I Behave well in the sauna at all times, as it is a “sacred” place III Take enough steam, but do not spoil the sauna of others by exces- according to the ways of our ancestors. sive “athletic” steam pouring. The Effect of Naturism on Body Image and Interoceptive Awareness
The Effect of Naturism on Body Image and Interoceptive Awareness Robert J Hargreaves Birkbeck College, University of London License: Attribution-Non-commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Research considering the benefits of Naturism on body image recently re-emerged after decades of neglect. The present study continued prior work assessing positive body image and went further adding an instrument used to assess Eating Disorder treatment efficacy expecting to benchmark naturists with very low symptomatology scores. Self-report Interoceptive testing was also employed to consider neurological underpinnings and benefits of their exceptional resilience. 43 naturists (37 male), average age 57, and 36 controls (21 male), average age 38, British origin, participated online. Utilizing the Body Appreciation Scale 2 and The Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire, naturists consistently, significantly achieved higher positive, and lower negative body image scores across all measures. Naturist results on the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness 2 across all dimensions were also persistently higher than controls. Naturist results confirm their position as a unique population demonstrating exceptionally high negative body image resilience, this coupled with potential advantageous neurological benefits that with further investigation could lead to naturism becoming a proactive mind-body therapy to help prevent eating disorders. Comprehensive future philosophical, phenomenological and longitudinal research options were also put forward. 2 Introduction A Body Image Dissatisfaction Epidemic Body and appearance dissatisfaction in the Western world have reached epidemic proportions with general population estimates of between 23-56% for women, and 15-43% for men, leading to the term ‘normative discontent,’ meaning it has become normal for the general population to feel dissatisfied with their body (Fallon, Harris & Johnson, 2014). -

GO TO MASTER INDEX OF WARFARE GIVING WAR A CHANCE, THE NEXT PHASE: THE WAR TO END WAR — THE GREAT WAR “They fight and fight and fight; they are fighting now, they fought before, and they’ll fight in the future.... So you see, you can say anything about world history.... Except one thing, that is. It cannot be said that world history is reasonable.” — Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoevski NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND “Fiddle-dee-dee, war, war, war, I get so bored I could scream!” —Scarlet O’Hara “Killing to end war, that’s like fucking to restore virginity.” — Vietnam-era protest poster HDT WHAT? October 2, Thursday: PM. Some of the white Pines on Fair Haven Hill have just reached the acme of their fall;–others have almost entirely shed their leaves, and they are scattered over the ground and the walls. The same is the state of the Pitch pines. At the Cliffs I find the wasps prolonging their short lives on the sunny rocks just as they endeavored to do at my house in the woods. It is a little hazy as I look into the west today. The shrub oaks on the terraced plain are now almost uniformly of a deep red. HDT WHAT? INDEX THE WAR TO END WAR THE GREAT WAR GO TO MASTER INDEX OF WARFARE 1914 World War I broke out in the Balkans, pitting Britain, France, Italy, Russia, Serbia, the USA, and Japan against Austria, Germany, and Turkey, because Serbians had killed the heir to the Austrian throne in Bosnia.
