VOLUME-17 October-December, 2016 Issue-1 SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING The Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting for the year 2016-17 was held on 25-11-2016. The meeting was chaired by Shri.C.G.Koravanavar, Chairman of KVK’s host institution. Dr.Srinath Dixit, Director, ATARI, Bangalore expressed happiness about overall activities carriedout by KVK and further he suggested to take up more programmes and activities related to Crop Planning, Multiple Cropping, Drought tolerant crops & Water budgeting. Further, he suggested the KVK to document programmes and their impact. Dr.V.I.Benagi, Director of Extension, University of Agriculture Sciences, Dharwad suggested to conduct seminar to farmers and Bankers on Protective Cultivation and organise exposure visit to University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. He suggested KVK to take up the production of bio-agents and bio-fertilizers. Dr.Y.K. Kotikal, Director of Extension, UHS Bagalkot suggested to take up Seed Production in Chilli and Coriander crops. Shri D.R.Patil, Founder Director of KVK’s host organisation advised to take up more activities on soil and water conservation, crop planning and water budgeting. Dr.L.G.Hiregoudar, Programme Co-ordinator welcomed the SAC Members and presented the action taken report on the suggestions made during previous SAC meeting. Further, he presented the activities taken up by KVK from April 2016 to November 2016. During the SAC meeting the improved version of Bengalgram information system, Rabi Sorghum Android app, Broucher on ‘Impact study of Vermi-compost technology’ and the ‘Value Addition in Sorghum’ were released. The Scientist of IGFRI, Dharwad, the District Officers of State Development Departments, NGOs, Progressive Farmers and Farm women, Women Entrepreneurs, the members of FPO and SHGs participated in the meeting. VISIT OF DIRECTOR OF ICAR-ATARI, BENGALURU Dr.Sreenath Dixit, Director of ICAR-ATARI visited demonstrations plots of Redgram TS-3R variety under NFSM programme and interacted with farmers at Nabhapur village of Gadag block. Then, visit was organised to NICRA village to review the activities and to hold interactive meeting with farmers youths & women. Visit to CHC, Dry land Horticulture, demonstration plots and water harvesting structures were organised. Page | 1 ICAR-K.H.PATIL KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HULKOTI, GADAG DISTRICT CELEBRATION OF WORLD FOOD DAY ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrated World Food Day on 16.10.2016 at its campus. The Programme was inaugurated by Ex. Member Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee, Shri. Fakerappa Agasimani. He expressed that farmers have to adopt mixed cropping systems for the income security of families. About 150 farmers, farm women and Gram Panchayat members were present on this occasion. WORLD SOIL HEALTH DAY AND DISTRICT AGRICULTURE SEMINAR In collaboration with State Department of Agriculture, ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised World Soil Health Day and Agriculture Seminar on 05.12.2016. The Programme was inaugurated by Dr.Nataraj Savadi, Senior Meteorologist, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Gadag. He requested farmers to give more emphasis on Soil health, Soil fertility, Moisture conservation practises and Soil bio-diversity due to the climate change. The Joint Director of Agriculture Shri. C.B. Balaraddi expressed that both KVK and the State Department of Agriculture so far analysed 17000 soil samples and distributed the soil health cards to farmers. The District Agriculture Department is also promoting organic farming through the new programme called Paramparagath Krishi Vikas Yojane supported by Government of India. Dr.Raju Rokhade, Meteorological officer, Gadag, Dr.Jayaraj, Deputy Director, Department of Animal Husbandary, Dr.Sahadev Yaraguppi, Deputy Director of State Agriculture Department, Gadag, Shri. Kashinath Bhadrannavar, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Dr. Latha Pujar, Professor, RHSC College, UAS Dharwad were present on this occasions. The president of the function Dr.L.G.Hiregoudar, Programme Coordinator briefed about the activities taken up by KVK, Hulkoti in protection of soil health. On this occasion 185 soil health cards were issued to the farmers. The message given on celebration of World Soil day by Shri Radha Mohan Singh ji, Honourable Union Minister of Agriculture and Family Welfare, Government of India was read for the benefit of the farmers. About 235 farmers and 20 extension staff and 59 Home Science college students participated in the event. CELEBRATION OF JAI KISSAN JAI VIGYAN PROGRAMME On the eve of Jai Kissan Jai Vigyan programme from Dec 21 to 29, ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised various programmes as detailed below. 1) Mango Seminar: ICAR-K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra in collaboration with Karnataka State Mango Board, Bangalore and Department of Horticulture, Gadag conducted Seminar on Mango Cultivation. The programme was inaugurated by Shri.Vasappa Kurudagi, President, Zilla Panchayat, Gadag. Shri Gopal Krishna, President, Mango Development Board of Karnataka State briefed about the production of export quality mangoes. About 200 mango growers of the district were participated in the programme. Page | 2 ICAR-K.H.PATIL KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HULKOTI, GADAG DISTRICT 2) Vermicompost And Azolla Production Technology: On December 22, 2016 under Swatchh Bharat programme ICAR -K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised Training to 21 women farmers on Production of Vermicompost and Azolla. An exposure visit to Azolla and Vermicompost production units was organised. 3) Celebration of Farmers Day: On December 23, 2016, ICAR -K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra in collaboration with Karnataka State Department of Agriculture celebrated Jai Kissan Jai Vigyan and Farmers day. The programme was inaugurated by Shri T.V.Manjunath, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Department of Forests, Dharwad. He gave an overall view of importance of Natural Resource Management and cautioned about the pollution of air, water, soil and its impact on human beings, animals and birds. Further, he said that due to the degradation of soil health as well as the declining trend of the underground water table made the farmers to move away from Agriculture. To overcome these crisis the Government Department, Non-Government Organisation and Farmers Associations need to conduct awareness programme at grass root level in conservation of natural resources. Shri.C.B.Balaraddi, Joint Director, State Department of Agriculture briefed about the various programmes of State Department of Agriculture like Krishi Bhagya, Krishi Sinchana for conservation of Natural Resources. The president of the function Shri Ravi Kumar Inamati, President, Taluk Panchayat, Gadag addressed farmers to keep in contact with KVK Scientist for the adoption of environment friendly agricultural technologies. On this eve the District Level Shresta Krishika award winner Shri Sharanabasappa Hadli, Shreshta Krishika farm women awardee Smt. Pushpa Koravanavar and Taluk level Shresta Krishik Farm Woman Smt. Laxmidevi Byadagee were felicitated. Dr.L.G.Hiregoudar, Programme Coordinator briefed the various programmes organised by KVK from 21.12.2016 to 29.12.2016 on the eve of Agricultural Technology Celebration. Dr.S.Jayaraj, Deputy Director, Department of Animal Husbandary, Dr.Veena Jadhav, Professor, Rural Home Science College, Dharwad, Smt Sridevi Kori, President, Gram Panchayat, Hulkoti, Smt. Mallavva Yalishetter, Vice-President, Gram Panchayat, Hulkoti were present on this occasion. The group discussion and interactive sessions were held for farmers. Exhibitions of Agriculture Technologies and Agricultural Implements were organized from 23-29 Dec, 2016 for the benefit of farmers participating in the Technology week. 4) Training to Extension Functionaries: i) Training on integrated weed management and contingent crop planning to 67 extension functionaries of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee programme was organised on December 24, 2016. ii) ICAR -K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra in collaboration with Rural Home Science College, Dharwad organised training on protection of environment through the use of Eco-friendly technologies. The demonstration of preparation of Eco-friendly bags by waste papers, news papers, brown paper and cartoon boxes was shown to students. School Headmistress, teachers and 275 students participated in this programme. 5) Interactive Meeting with Farmers: On 25th December, 2016 ICAR -K.H.Patil Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised interactive meeting and group discussion with farmers at Mahalingapur village of Gadag block under NICRA programme. The crop demonstrations and the activities carried out for the year 2015-16 and 2016- Page | 3 ICAR-K.H.PATIL KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HULKOTI, GADAG DISTRICT 17 were discussed and the farmers’ feedback was documented. About 42 farmers participated in the interactive meeting. 6) Training to Women Groups and Farmers Interest Groups: i) On December 26, 2016 training to women SHG members and 25 farmers of FIG was organised at KVK. The farmers of Hombal, Megur and Pethalur village were participated in the training. The topics like Income Generating activities, capacity building of FIGs and exposure visit to Agriculture technology exhibition and Agricultural implements was organised. Special interactive sessions with Bankers, Doctors and Innovative Farmers with farmers were organised. ii) About 65 students of SRAG, High School, Hulkoti were trained on importance and production of vermicompost. 7) Training to FIGs and Extension
