Deshpande Govt First Grade College, Mulgund Page 4 NAAC Accreditation First Cycle Report 2016 PREFACE It is great pleasure and privilege as part of me to submit the Self Study Report (SSR) of Shri R N Deshpande Government First Grade College, Mulgund Gadag Distinct, for the first cycle of accreditation by the NAAC.This report has prepared as per the guidelines of the NAAC. It is honor through impart that our institution provide quality.Education to stake holders to enhance and enrich our academic and administrative practices by adopting innovative ideas, implementing new teaching and learning skills and introducing dimensional actives for the growth of rural and academically backward student of this area. Keeping in view the instruction laid down by NAAC, Four members screening committee was the constituted under the able guidance of Dr.Laxman, principal, along with administrative staff to collect necessary information required for the report. Each department and screening committee held the regular meetings together all inputs about the academic, administrative, curricular and co-curricular activities under taken during the last four years. The report focus the data on information about curricular aspects, teaching learning and evaluation, research and extension activities, infrastructure and learning resources, student support ,progression, governance and leadership, innovations and best practices of our college. It has been rich experience of working together, reflecting together and indentifying the strength and weakness of the college. It has renewed our sense of identity and open new dimensions of opportunity using innovative and modern method of teaching and learning resources. The committee has prepared this report through group discussions with faculties and regular interaction with principal and stakeholders of our campus. I appreciate the sincere and honest effort of the co-coordinator Dr.B Suresha and the committee members for their collective endeavor and extend my sincere thanks to teaching and non-teaching staff of our college to complete this report. I take this opportunity to extend my special thanks to our C D C chairman Shri.H K Patil, Honerable Minister for Rural development and Panchayat raj, government of Karnataka Bengaluru, Shri R N Deshpande who was donor of the Land for this campus, Shri. C B Badni and other all C D C members. I sincerely extend my thanks to Dr.Siddalinga Swamy, Co-coordinator for NAAC, DCE Bengaluru for guidance and support to reach this endeavor. It is also our vision to inculcate in the minds of the students to realize the secularist, scientific and democratic values of the country. MISSION Our mission is to build up ethical, moral, rational and humanistic culture among students to serve the society. Motivate the students to have environmental and social harmony to enhance equality. Shri R.N. Deshpande Govt First Grade College, Mulgund Page 6 NAAC Accreditation First Cycle Report 2016 Executive summary The policy of the Govt. of Karnataka State is to take higher education to the common man and bring about regional balance. With this great vision to make higher education affordable to the poorest of the poor of all sections of the society, the Government of Karnataka started Government First Grade College in Mulgund Village during the academic year 2007-08. The college is affiliated to Karnataka University, Dharwad. It comes under the jurisdiction of Dharwad Regional Joint Director Office. This college is offering quality education for students of Arts, Commerce and Science courses. There was no independent building previously which was started in S.J.J.M. Aided Pvt. P U College campus, Mulgund. In the year 2011-12 college was shifted to a new our own premises. Sri R.N.Deshapande who is well known person in this region. He is much interested in development of education. Because of his keen interest in education he decided to donate the land. Another prominent personality in this region namely sri C.B Badni is also very much interested in this regard. Latterly Sri R.N.Deshapande donated 5 acres of land, by this opportunity helps to develop the college, and for the remembrance of the donor, the Department has insisted the name Shri R.N.Deshapande Govt First Grade College, Mulgund. Presently the College is running in our own building in a ground floor consisting of 08 Class rooms, Library, computer lab, office and principal chamber. Ladies and boys rest room respectively. Even though our college is situated in rural and backward area, the academic atmosphere is good. With limited infrastructure and permanent faculty utilizing in the best way. In the past nine years the college has given consistent commendable results and excellent performance by the students. This has enabled the college to attract a growing number of students from all sections of the society. Thus, even with all these limitations the college is struggling to provide ample facilities for the development of integrated personality. The college students are utilizing EDUSAT, NAIPUNYANIDHI facility also very much fruitful to the students. Shri R.N. Deshpande Govt First Grade College, Mulgund Page 7 NAAC Accreditation First Cycle Report 2016 Summarized criteria wise performance appraisal of the college: 1. Curricular Aspects: The curriculum for the various degree courses offered by the college is prescribed by the Karnataka University, to which the college is Affiliated.The University conducts the workshops and meetings inviting teachers from all affiliated colleges and other major stakeholders to participate in the process of updating, revising and designing courses. The senior faculties from each department of the college attend this process and communicate and exchange their opinions and suggestions for effective execution of the curricular. The curricular are revised regularly by the affiliating university keeping in mind the changing social and global needs and employability of students. The syllabus of all U G programmes has been revised frequently. Cross cutting issues such as gender, environmental education, human rights ICT etc are kept in mind while revising the curricular. The curricular prograame of the college currently comprises of three years bachelor degree course following semester system and offers undergraduate general degree programmes in four streams-Arts and Commerce. Semester examination system has been followed subject offered in the arts group are kannada, English, political Science, History, Economics and Sociology subject offered. For effective implementation of the curriculum the syllabus and the number of process are divided, among the faculty members at beginning of the academic session, keeping in mind the syllabus
