Biodelfonics 2 01.Wps TM BIOGRAPHY THE DELFONICS CAUGHT THE RISING TIDE OF R&B AND POP MUSIC AT JUST THE RIGHT TIME IN THE LATE 1960’S, WHEN YOUNG MALE GROUPS WERE COMING INTO THEIR OWN. THE DELFONICS UNIQUE STYLE OF SONG AND WELL CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE STEPS CAUGHT THE WORLD BY STORM. THE DELFONICS QUICKLY BECAME A STELLAR ATTRACTION ON WORLD WIDE CONCERTS, COLLEGE CAMPUSES AND BECAME ONE OF THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER GROUPS TO APPEAR AT THE WORLD RENOWED APOLLO THEATER IN NEW YORK. THE MOTIVATING FORCE OF THE GROUP WAS WILLIAM (POOGIE) HART. AS A LITTLE BOY, WILLIAM WAS INSPIRED BY GROUPS, SUCH AS FRANKIE LYMAN and THE TEENAGERS, LITTLE ANTHONY and the IMPERIALS, THE TEMPTATIONS AND GLADYS KNIGHTS and the PIPS. WILLIAM ORGANIZED HIS FIRST SINGING GROUP, LITTLE HART and THE EVERGLOWS AT THE AGE OF 14. WILLIAM WENT ON TO FORM OTHER GROUPS, THE VELTONES, THE FOUR GUYS, THE ORFONICS AND THE GRAMMY AWARD WINNING GROUP THE DELFONICS. THE DISTINCT SOUND OF THE DELFONICS HAS ALWAYS AND WILL BE WILLIAM HART‘S NATURAL FIRST TENOR VOCALS. WILLIAM HAD A PASSION FOR WRITING. HIS WRITING OF THE SONG “LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU”WAS INSPIRED BY HIS BABY SON THAT WOULD BE IN HIS PLAYPEN SAYING THE WORDS”LA LA LA” THE SONG WAS ROMANTIC , YET SENTIMENTAL. WILLIAM’S SMOOTH, AND MELLOW FIRST TENOR VOCALS MADE LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU AN INSTANT HIT . WILLIAM’S VOICE IS ONE OF THE MOST RECONGIZED VOICES IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY TODAY. “LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU” BECAME AN INSTANT HIT PEAKING AT #2 ON BILLBOARDS TOP 100 . Everybody is Talking About the Good Ole Days: RZA on the Soul of Music by Ericka Blount Danois If hip-hop tours, white appropriation, anniversary celebrations, books and hip-hop documentaries aren’t an indication that hip-hop has reached the status of Beatles-style nostalgia and reverence, then releasing a Wu-Tang Clan 20th anniversary reunion album, A BetterTomorrow, is solid proof that the genre has officially arrived. RZA, always the heart of the operation, worked tirelessly to round up the troops and dissolve beefs for the reunion album that dropped Dec. 2, 2014. “I wanted to make a record that pays homage to soul music and hip-hop,” he said about the making of this album. “I went to the past to make something for the future.” RZA came out of his own pockets to fund the album to the tune of half a million dollars. Some of the best in the industry are featured on the album—Rick Rubin, Adrian Younge, David Porter, Kenny Gamble and Rob Cavallo, all had their hands in the pot. Wu-Tang has always done things big and with vision. RZA led the 9-member group to an unprecedented label deal where each member was able to launch solo records. The deal allowed them to become the most revolutionary rap group of the mid-’90s releasing five group and 19 compilation albums totaling over 6 platinum records and over 40 million sold.

  • WEARING HER PASSION with the in SIDE out by Tomas Peña
MICHELE ROSEWOMAN: WEARING HER PASSION WITH THE IN SIDE OUT By Tomas Peña From Oakland CA, pianist/composer/educator Michele Rosewoman began playing piano at age six. Prior to moving to New York and while still in her late teens she began playing percussion and studied Cuban/Haitian folkloric idioms. In New York Rosewoman formed new ensembles, while nurturing associations with notable New York-based artists such as Julius Hemphill, Carlos Ward, Rufus Reid, Reggie Workman, Freddie Waits, James Spaulding and Billy Hart. In the Latin music genre, Rosewoman has performed with Cuban master drummer/vocalist Orlando “Puntilla” Rios, Celia Cruz, Paquito D’ Rivera, Nicky Marrero, Daniel Ponce and “Chocolate” Armenteros among others. In 1983 she received both a National Endowment for the Arts grant for the formation of the pioneering New Yor-Uba—a fourteen-piece ensemble integrating Cuban folkloric music with cutting-edge jazz—and the ASCAP/Meet the Composer Commission, resulting in a work performed by the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra plus quintet of improvisers. Formed in 1986, her Quintessence ensemble debuted at the Cooper Union Great Hall in New York, followed by tours in the US and abroad and four recordings on Enja Records. Rosewoman and Quintessence were the 2002-2003 recipients of the Chamber Music America/Doris Duke Jazz Ensemble Project Grant for the Creation and Presentation of New Works and 2005 recipients of the first Chamber Music America Encore Grant. In addition to five Quintessence recordings and a quartet release on Soul Note Records, Rosewoman has two trio recordings—Occasion To Rise (Evidence, 1993) was voted one of the year’s best recordings by six critics’ polls, and the critically acclaimed Spirit (Blue Note, 1996) was recorded live at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
