Krusevac Serbia Krusevac is interesting for its history because it suffered all uncertainties of Serbian history. Constructed in 1374 by Prince Lazar, it became the capital. Therefrom he went to the battle on Kosovo Polje where he had been defeated. Thus this event had been tragical for Krusevac. Before the Turkish offensives a great part of the population had emigrated into Hungary The town became Alidza Hisar when it had fallen into the Turkish hands.1455. it had not been liberated till 1806. During the I World War Krusevac had been occupied by Austrians and it was the theatre of numerous affrontings in 1941. Lazar's city - The town constructed by Lazar remained in place in spite of the losses in history. The Serbian King had constructed 1371 a medieval city 200 meters times 300 meters with the walls 2 meters wide. There remained a little of the wall trench, but in the North-East wing donjon is the most intact remnant of the ancient city. The construction visible in our times measure 18 meters in height and had been made of broken and tighten together stones. It has been estimated that there were four stories in height. Always in the East of the city the monument to King Lazar had been erected. In 1971. Sitting proudly with a sword on the hip Lazar represented an enterprising statesman. And at the same time a horseman in the service of Christ. The Church of Lazarica, Stefana Visokog 16. Constructed in 1380 it was reconstructed in the XIX century by Prince Milos Obrenovic. Its design with the absides radiating from the aisle, with two towers observed the rules of the School of Morava. The church is interesting for the reasonable utilisation of the stone and of brick that permitted to obtain the colour contrasts in the external decoration. On the other hand the decoration and the sculptures are numerous. The networks of the latter and the sculptured arcs do decorate the base of the dome and of the little belfry, the arcs of the doors and the windows have been chiselled of various imagine motives, plants or animals. Monument of Serbian heroes - This impressive monument in bronze, 6 meters high, is at the same time the symbol of Krusevac and the most important among the national sculptures from the beginning of the XX century. The work of Djordje Jovanovic. This sculpture representing on its summit Bosko Jugovic has been uncovered 1904 on Vidovdan in the presence of King Peter I. After the World Exhibition in Paris 1900, the monument exhibit in many places has already received the gold medal. _________________________________________________________ Mountin Jastrebac [Krusevac], Serbia The mountain massives of Kopaonik, Goc and Zeljin on the west, and Veliki and Mali Jastrebac on the south make immediate surrounding of Krusevac. Gledicke mountains and Juhor dominate on the north. Mojsinjske mountains are east and northeast. The Zapadna Morava and the Juzna Morava are the largest river basins in the area. The territory of Krusevac is situated in the Tertiary basin, former Panonian Sea, which became separated in several phases. This area functioned as a lake in some phases, and in the others as a bay. The remains of the lake terraces can be noticed even today, and most of the settlements are situated on them. Gradual lowering of the level of the Panonian Sea, the flow away of its water and the creation of terraces about-0.70 154 m high, i.e. the lake plain with average height of 362 m, brought, mainly, the presence of the fertile aluvial land in the valley of Krusevac, but also the presence of the barren land, clay and ashland. The most important points around the valley are: Kopaonik [2016 m], Jastrebac [1491m], Gledicke mountains [922 m] and Mojsinjske mountains [489 m]. Numerous smaller water courses, streams and rivers, as well as the real gorges [such as the gorge at Stalac cut by the Juzna Morava through the mountains of Mojsinje], are a real challenge to nature lovers, but also to the experts who deal with this area. Hydrographic net of the valley of Krusevac has 49 river basins with the length of 1070 km, i.e. 1.2 km of water surface. The important rivers are: the Zapadna Morava, the Rasina and the Ribarska reka. Mineral and healing waters in the area are significant natural resources in the area of Krusevac: besides Ribarska Banja and the mineral water in Lomnica, springs in Zabare, Orasje and Bela Voda deserve attention. "Celije" lake was built on the river Rasina. Several municipalities of the Rasina County get their drinking water supplies from this lake. The wood complex of the municipality of Krusevac and the Rasina County has many kinds of game birds and other animals. Species under protection are: grey heron, white and black stork, turtledove and pheasant... while the page 2 / 10 following species are not under proteciton: sparrow hawk, raven, crow, jay. The other protected game are: rabbit and deer on Jastrebac, and the game not put under protection are: wolf, fox, marten, skunk... The rivers and "Celije" lake are very rich with fish. Moderate continental climate is present on the territory of the municipality of Krusevac. The average annual air temperature is 11,5C, the coldest month is January with -8C and the hottest July with 21,9C. Average falls are 652,2 mm: the greatest in May [87,1 mm] and the smallest in June [79,4 mm]. Snow is most often in January and February [7,5 days] and the average frequency of snow days is 16,5. During the cold period the characteristic winds are: kosava and S or SE wind. The area of Krusevac is not endangered by air pollution. Traffic dispositions of Krusevac, the Municipality and the Rasina County are in the context of the territorial composition of The Republic of Serbia. From this standpoint, the directions [1] Sava-Danube and [2] Danube-Morava which enable Serbia the role of the "link" in the road connection of the West European countries with the countries in the southeast of Europe and the Near East, have particular importance. Also important are the traffic directions within the borders of the former SFR of Yugoslavia: the traffic corridor along the Adriatic coast, the east part of the former SFR of Yugoslavia, the Belgrade knot and Moravsko-Vardarska transversal. For Krusevac itself the important highways are: the international highway E-75, Krusevac-Novi Pazar-Bar, and the railway direction: Stalac-Krusevac-Uzice.... Serbia Serbia has connected West with East for centuries a land in which civilisations, cultures, faiths, climates and landscapes meet and mingle. It is located in the centre of the Balkan Peninsula, in southeastern Europe. The northern portion belongs to central Europe, but in terms of geography and climate it is also partly a Mediterranean country. Serbia is landlocked but as a Danube country it is connected to distant seas and oceans. Serbia is a crossroads of Europe and a geopolitically important territory. The international roads and railway lines, which run through the countrys river valleys, form the shortest link between Western Europe and the Middle East. From the agricultural regions of the Pannonian Plain in the north, across the fertile river valleys and orchard-covered hills of umadija, the landscape of Serbia continues southward, gradually giving way to mountains rich in canyons, gorges and caves, as well as well-preserved forests. Serbias beautiful mountains, national parks, rivers and lakes are the perfect location for an active outdoor holiday from hunting and fishing to extreme sports. Many times during its rich, centuries-long history, Serbia has been at the centre of Europes and the worlds attention, out of all proportion to its modest size, economic might and number of inhabitants. Many lessons on bravery, patriotism and the struggle for freedom can be learned wherever you turn in Serbia, as you pass through its cities and regions.
