University of Missouri Extension Fire and Rescue Training Institute ANNUAL REPORT 20162016 INTRODUCTION From the University of Missouri Extension nce again, I am proud to recognize the dedication and commitment to excellence exhibited by the administration, faculty, and staff of the Institute in the training and technical assistance they O provide. As a unit within the University of Missouri Extension, the Institute exemplifies the mission of a land grant institution by providing access to the citizens of Missouri to cutting edge information and training. We acknowledge the critical importance of the work performed by the Institute in providing the necessary competency based training that prepares our state’s fire and emergency service first responders to safely fulfill their duties in the protection of Missouri citizens and communities. During FY16 the Institute reached firefighters across the state in volunteer, combination, and career fire departments, drawing students from all 114 Missouri counties. I congratulate the faculty and staff of MU FRTI on another significant year in providing training and Beverly Coberly education, and I want to say thank you to our partners, constituents, and students for your continued Associate Vice Chancellor support and participation in Extension and the Institute’s training programs. LeeAllen Smith I believe that this document should be treated as an ongoing process. It lays out the general direction that the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the committees that have spent their time and energy to develop, believe is the proper direction. Things will change as the city grows and this document is not set in stone, changes in various parts are imminent. As a former Alderman, I feel that it is vital that every member of the Centralia Board of Alderman, current and newly elected, Planning and Zoning Commission, the Park Director, and city department foremen, should read The Centralia Comprehensive Plan 2025 so they will have a general idea as to the direction the city should be moving in future growth and a better understanding of why this direction is important. COLUMBIA, MISSOURI | MSA Growing Population Columbia topped all cities in Missouri on the “Fastest-Growing City in Each State” list - USA Today Highly Educated City Columbia ranked among the “2019 Most Educated Cities” - Insurify INTRODUCTION Located about halfway between Kansas City and St. Louis, the Columbia, MO, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is a vibrant, youthful region that is home to the University of Missouri (Mizzou). Beyond Mizzou, Greater Columbia has a lot to offer young professionals and families: a Retiree Friendly low unemployment rate and easy access to shopping, culture, arts, and activities. Columbia recognized among the “Best Places to Retire in Missouri” - Forbes The top industries in the Columbia MSA are education and health care, with the top employers including Mizzou, University of Missouri Health Care, and Columbia Public Schools. Mizzou also underpins the local apartment market. On-campus housing at Mizzou only accommodates about 21% of the students. The school’s enrollment of 30,050 students and 179,000 alumni remaining in the state foster a youthful metrowide population with a median age of 32.8 compared to the 38.9 national Best Place to Live average.
