Box 375 Elyria, Ohio 44035 Attention: Sales Manager Dear Sir: A mutual customer of ours, with whom we have done business for many years, has suggested that we contact you. We here have been supplying a northern Kentucky plant with a variety of solvents for some years. In the intervening time they have stored these spent sol- vents in 55-gallon drums. It is here where we believe our two organizations might have a common meeting ground. We were given to understand that you have the capacity of moving drums such as these, which in this case contain mostly toluene, and either utilizing the spent product therein .or upgrading it yourselves. We have available approximately 600 to 900 drums which we would like to move in your direction and, of course, there is a dis- tinct possibility that a back resupply of prime product might be arranged. If you indeed are capable of handling these small spent solvent streams, we would very much appreciate hearing from you. We await the benefit of your response. Very truly yours, INDUSTRIAL SOLVENTS CORPORATION CCS:mh 1 CAB1E ADDRESS 'SOLVENTS" SCARSDAU N, V IV-.'X- 7K1--56.5 1900 TES.EX. 137304 ! Box 375 Elyria, Ohio 44035 Attention: Mr. Obitts Dear Mr. Obitts: Confirming recent telephone conversation relative to our letter of December 2, 1971 to your attention, two of the large waste products are 60,000 plus gallons of toluene and 20,000 plus gallons of benzene. The solvents are contaminated with tars, water and, in some cases, low boilers such as ethanol and ethyl ethyr. Smaller drum quantities of heptane and chloroform are also available, however are contaminated with organic reactants in smaller quantities. There are also available over a year's period approximately 100,000 gallons of methanol water. A good portion of the drums are relatively new and should have some kind of intrinsic value. However, a compartmented tank wagon or tank car could also be used to bulk load some of the drum product if that proved to be more advantageous. I did err in indicating a northern Kentucky plant. This particular plant with the drum inventory is located in Newport, Tennessee and not Newport, Kentucky as I orig- inally indicated. NDUSTRlAl SOlVtNIS CORPORATION Mr. Obitts December 8, 1971 Obitts Chemical Company Page 2 Based on the above information, and realizing that probably on a drum to drum basis no such thing as a representative drum is available, do you still want to examine a 1-gallon sample or perhaps shall we figure out an approach wherein 40 or 50 drums could be picked up via your dray truck and delivered to your plant? Would appreciate the benefit of your thinking. Very truly yours, INDUSTRIAL SOLVENTS CORPORATION CCSrmh Clereland Section, AJ.Ch.E. Cleveland, Ohio Reply to: Mr_ Reagan Houston 146 Curtis Drive Avon Lake, Ohio 44012 November 7, 1973 Dear Sir: Many small manufacturers do not understand the recent pollution laws which Ohio now has. As engineers, our committee is volunteering to help companies with less than 50 employees who desire assistance. Would a day of confidential dis- cussion with someone who has a general knowledge of the laws plus a background in chemical engineering help you to know what type equipment salesman to call, what process changes to consider, or what type consultant to hire? Perhaps things are under control and you just want an informal check. Our volunteers are members of the Cleveland Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers who would donate free up to one day of their time per company. Eligible companies should have no more than 50 employees, including those at other locations. The program is in cooperation with the Northeast District of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Cuyahoga Falls) who gave us your name and address. The Cleveland Section covers seven counties in Ohio. The program is just begin- ning and we are initially testing the need and effectiveness of this approach with a few companies in Lorain County. We would not, of course, recommend speci- fic equipment suppliers or consultants. If you wish help, please write to us. We will phone you for further information and to arrange a possible meeting at your plant.
