Welcome to Apex Camps Magnetic Island! Apex Camps Magnetic Island is a simply stunning location that will take your breath away! Just a short ferry ride from Townsville at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and all it has to offer, complete with northern Australia’s largest colony of koalas living in the wild, you will love our establishment. With 35 years of experience in delivering camps and outdoor recreation, Apex Camps knows how to provide your school or group with an outstanding camp experience. From the moment you arrive to the day of your departure, our team members are committed to ensuring that your experience with us is amazing! Apex Camps Magnetic Island offers more than 20 awesome adventure activities, including spectacular charter reef and snorkelling tours and abseiling on the island’s most amazing natural rock formations! We also provide some fabulous night activities to entertain your group until bedtime. With an onsite catering team dedicated to serving you delicious food during your stay, loads of great facilities to keep you entertained even in your downtime, and free coffee for teachers and supervisors, you truly won’t want your camp to end! Apex Camps Magnetic Island l apexcamps.com.au l [email protected] I 1300 122 677 ACCOMMODATION Apex Camps Magnetic Island can comfortably cater for groups from 25 up to 115 guests (larger groups may also be catered for, with access to further accommodation in proximity of the camp). All accommodation is cabin style with 12 cabins in total and two separate private teacher/supervisor accommodation buildings, and is fully air-conditioned as required. CABINS We have the following cabins: • Ten single room cabins, each sleeping 8 in bunk beds (cabin numbers 1-10). Each cabin contains luggage racks for storage and has the added cooling option of air conditioning. • A duplex cabin sleeping 8 on one side and 4 on the other, all in bunk beds (cabin numbers 11 and 12). TEACHER/SUPERVISOR ACCOMMODATION BUILDINGS We have two teacher/supervisor accommodation buildings. Teacher/supervisor building 1 contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms, separated in the middle by a lounge/eating area and kitchenette. There is also an open veranda, accessed from the lounge. The two larger rooms of teacher/supervisor building 1 sleep 4 and 6, all in bunks (10 in total). These rooms have the added cooling option of fans and air conditioning. The smallest room contains a single bed and sink and is often reserved as a sick bay, if needed. All bedrooms include storage. The lounge/eating area has a TV with USB input available, chairs and an eating area (tables and chairs). The kitchenette contains a fridge/freezer and microwave facilities. Teacher/supervisor building 2 contains three bedrooms and a bathroom, with one of the rooms containing a lounge/eating area with TV and a kitchenette with fridge and microwave facilities. The rooms of this cabin sleep 5, 4 and 4, all in bunk beds (13 in total) and are fully air conditioned. AMENITIES BUILDING We offer a separate external amenities building, located 5-10 meters from accommodation buildings. Included is a disabled toilet and shower (with fold down seat attached to the wall). Our onsite catering team provides high quality, buffet style catering for our guests at very reasonable prices. All of our pre-planned menus have been specially designed to ensure nutritious, delicious and generously sized meals that incorporate seasonal elements and locally sourced, fresh produce. Enjoy your meals in the comfort of our air-conditioned dining hall, with filtered water also available. Perhaps most importantly, our meals are made to keep campers happy, and we wash all of your dishes for you! Special Diets We cater for all special dietary needs at no extra cost. Please be sure to advise us of any needs in advance. We are a nut-free camp. Special Occasions We can provide a cake for birthdays and cater for other special occasions at no extra cost. Please arrange this with us prior to your camp. Supervisor Bonuses Teachers and supervisors receive FREE cappuccino, latte and hot chocolate during their stay, 24 hours. FACILITIES Apex Camps Magnetic Island provides a large range of facilities to add to your camp experience and keep you entertained throughout your stay. These include: . Air-conditioned dining hall . Indoor activity and meeting room with seating for up to 125 people in one room, and TV/ DVD and AV/multi-media facilities . Floodlit tennis and multi-purpose court - night lights available . Disabled toilet and shower Supervisor Bonuses Teachers and supervisors receive FREE wi-fi and have access to a kitchenette with fridge/freezer and microwave facilities, and an eating area/lounge with TV. From our charter reef and snorkelling tours, taking you to the spectacular outer reef offshore from Townsville, to abseiling on one of Magnetic Island’s most amazing natural rock formations, to our popular kayaking and bushwalking, there is something to suit all skill levels! All activities are run by fully qualified, accredited and experienced activity contractors who are committed to ensuring you have loads of fun! Each activity session is 1 hour 30 minutes (with the exception of abseiling (3 hours), reef tours (half day), and Townsville activities (2-3 hours). Choose up to 8 activity sessions plus 2 supervised night activities over a standard 3 day/2 night camp (for day visits, up to 3 activities), or ask our staff to help tailor a program to suit your desired outcomes. PREMIUM ACTIVITIES REEF TOUR If you are after the full Great Barrier Reef experience, we can organise your half day tour to the outer reefs off Townsville. Your exclusive charter boat will take your group on a memorable day of reef exploring and snorkelling with experienced and knowledgeable staff. Includes all equipment and catering. Departs from ferry terminal at Nelly Bay, a short bus ride from camp. ADVENTURE SKILLS ABSEILING Experience abseiling on one of Magnetic Island's amazing rock formations! This confidence building activity provides an opportunity for personal growth, while offering a fun and memorable heights experience. Sites are chosen depending on the age and ability of the group, and as such the activity may involve a short bus ride. INTERMEDIATE SKILLS RAFT BUILDING Raft building involves group problem solving, team work and construction skills. Basic instruction in knot tying and lashing is provided. Participants are then required to construct rafts from resources provided and to complete set challenges using their vessels. This is a fun and often wet session, fostering teamwork and friendly competition. Conducted at Horseshoe Bay, a short bus ride from camp. Apex Camps Magnetic Island l apexcamps.com.au l [email protected] I 1300 122 677 KAYAKING Kayaking offers the opportunity to learn new skills, have fun and develop an understanding and appreciation of the beautiful waters surrounding Magnetic Island. It is an activity that can be successfully mastered by participants of all ages and encourages the development of communication skills and teamwork. Conducted at Horseshoe Bay, a short bus ride from camp. STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING Our stand up paddle (SUP) boarding offers adventure and skill learning on the water. Standing full height on the latest SUP boards, large in size designed for ease of use, participants experience a real adventure. SNORKEL TOUR Our off-the-beach snorkel tours provide an affordable way to explore one of two great snorkelling locations on the island - Nelly or Geoffrey Bay. Experience the beauty of the Magnetic Island Reef, part of the spectacular Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. This activity is accessed either by foot or by bus, depending on the tides and weather conditions as to the most suitable location. SOFT SKILLS ARCHERY Archery is one of our most popular activities and is sure to hit the mark! The activity can be enjoyed by all ages, abilities and skill levels, with bows designed for each individual and fired towards the target under skilled supervision. BUSH WALKING Our bush walking will take participants on a beautiful journey of discovery around the camp and Picnic Bay areas, visiting local landmarks and taking in iconic views. The activity is tailored to suit all age groups. FISHING Enjoy a relaxing fishing session on the Picnic Bay wharf, wetting a line in the hopes of landing that big catch! All equipment is supplied and instruction provided by our staff. RADIO ROGAINE – day or night activity Radio rogaine is a team based, competitive challenge focusing on communication, spatial awareness and group dynamics. Participants use walkie talkies and a site map, working together in teams to locate as many check points as they can within a given timeframe.
