WELCOME 1.1. Introduction Dear friends, For the past year, one thing has undoubtedly dominated the lives of most people in the world: the COVID-19 pandemic. An unprecedented challenge for the world, for the Rally community it began by cutting short the 2020 edition of WRC Rally Guanajuato México, leaving us with a nagging sense of dissatisfaction. Pandemic-related problems also meant we could not be on the 2021 WRC calendar, which only deepened our determination to return stronger than ever. As the first step in our comeback, we are proud to present to you the 2021 FIA NACAM Rally Guanajuato. We have worked intensely to make this a memorable, innovative rally. Above all, we have strived to bring our competitors and spectators a high-quality experience, with the same high standards set by ourselves in past years. The rally will count towards both the Mexican National Rally Championship, and the NACAM Rally Championship, and as such, at 151.99 special stage kilometers it will be a much shorter Rally Guanajuato than usual. However, this does not mean a lack of action or excitement: on the contrary, we have several surprises in store. To begin with, SS San Diego, which was new for Sunday in 2020 but couldn’t be run, will be a part of the route in 2021. It contains several kilometers of brand-new, challenging roads with great natural beauty. Also new for this year is a purpose-built spectator-friendly stage called SS Dunas de León. Run inside an open-air mine, it will provide some very spectacular views for spectators and photographers, as well as a completely new and fun experience for crews. Street Stage Guanajuato will, as always, be the first stage of the rally, making for a very colorful and exciting start. As for our Rally Campus and Service Park, this year it will be installed at Parque Guanajuato Bicentenario, an impressive, extremely convenient central location close to the stages, easily accessible and with great facilities. Guanajuato’s fans have been left longing for rally action since March this year, and FIA NACAM Rally Guanajuato is meant to satisfy this urge and leave them wanting even more.     PRESS INFORMATION HIRVONEN POWERS TO WRC CENTURY IN TURKEY KEMER, 15 June 2008 - Ford today claimed a record-breaking 100th consecutive points finish in the FIA World Rally Championship with the Focus RS World Rally Car. It became the first manufacturer since the launch of the championship in 1973 to reach a century of successive scores (see below) on the Rally of Turkey thanks to Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen claiming their second win of the FIA World Rally Championship season in a Ford Focus RS World Rally Car, and team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila just 7,9 sec behind in another Focus RS as Ford extended its lead in the manufacturers' series to nine points. After dominating Friday's opening leg to hold first and second, Hirvonen and Latvala deliberately eased their pace in the final few metres to drop down the leaderboard to gain better road conditions yesterday. A lower start position meant they avoided the huge disadvantage of being first and second on roads covered by slippery loose gravel. Instead, they benefited from the cleaning process of the cars ahead, who swept stones from the surface to leave a cleaner and faster line on which to attack. Ford's Finns rocketed back to first and second yesterday morning and attacked hard to build as big a lead as possible over championship rival Sébastien Loeb, who swept the roads, in third. Hirvonen and Latvala had the unwanted 'cleaning' role today, but the buffer was big enough to hold off a determined charge from Loeb during the final 31, 03 km speed test to claim the team's second 1-2 of the season.

Rally Sweden will be the second event for the New Generation i20 WRC and a second different surface. We have tested on snow back in December and again last week with the new car and it’s gone well with no major issues. The drivers have been happy too; they’ve found good set-ups for the differential and the dampers so I think they are all quite confident. Thierry finished second in Sweden last year in the 2015 car but the drivers say that the New Generation i20 WRC feels even better. The car is a bit longer so it should be more stable on fast sections of road like you get in Sweden. We believe we have gained a bit of traction too, which is important on a low-grip surface like snow. In Sweden the car runs on gravel specification but there are specific details you can prepare for this event. You don’t want to get too much snow in the car because it adds extra weight so you have to make sure it is well sealed, inside the wheel arches and underneath the car. Also, because of the cold temperatures we don’t have to cool down the car as much as usual so we’ll use a different radiator.

    Motorsport Information FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Rally Portugal Volkswagen lines up with three Polo R WRCs for first time Wolfsburg (08 April 2013). Fourth rally, fourth first: Volkswagen will line up with three Polo R WRCs for the first time at the Rally Portugal. After a strong debut in the FIA World Rally Championship at January’s Rally Monte Carlo, the Polo R WRC then started its first event on ice and snow at the Rally Sweden in February, before making its first outing on gravel at high altitude at the Rally Mexico. From 11 to 14 April, the Rally Portugal will provide the stage for another first: Andreas Mikkelsen and Mikko Markkula (N/FIN) will make their debut in the third Polo R WRC – the number 9 car. They will be joined at the rally on the Algarve coast in southern Portugal by their Volkswagen team-mates: Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) and the winners of the rallies in Sweden and Mexico, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia (F/F). “After three completely different rallies at the start of the season, the first ‘typical’ WRC rally awaits us in Portugal,” said Volkswagen Motorsport Director Jost Capito. “Tough gravel routes, spring temperatures and – unlike at the Rally Mexico – stages at just above sea level: we will probably come across the same kind of conditions at the coming rallies in Argentina, Greece and Italy. As such, the Rally Portugal provides us with another important indicator of what the Polo R WRC is capable of. Furthermore, we will also send a third driving pair into action at every rally from now on, in the form of Andreas Mikkelsen and Mikko Markkula.

    STARS OF THE STAGE When the World Rally Championship first began in 1973, only the car manufacturers fought for a crown; it wasn’t until 1979 that the drivers were recognised with their own world title. They soon made up for lost time, however, and over the past four decades the WRC has been a constant source of drama, heroism and displays of unbelievable skill. Described by those who knew him as a true gentleman (and sometimes as a teddy bear), the late Björn Waldegård won the inaugural World Rally Drivers’ Championship in 1979 (prior to that, the competition had Waldegård been held for two years as an FIA ‘Cup for Drivers’, won by Sandro Munari in 1977 and Markku Alén in 1978). All through that season, Waldegård battled Hannu Mikkola, his team-mate not just at Ford in the pace-setting Escort RS but also at Mercedes-Benz. The German company had 1979 hired the duo to pilot the powerful if unwieldy 5.0-litre V8 automatic 450SLC Coupé on the Safari and Ivory Coast events.
