Notice of Intention to Grant Prospecting Licences

Since it appears to the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment (the Minister) that there are minerals not being worked under the lands in the areas set out below, pursuant to section 7(1) of the Minerals Development Act 1940, as amended, the Minister intends to grant prospecting licences for Base Metals, Barytes, Silver (ores of), Gold (ores of) and Platinum Group Elements (ores of) to Raptor Resources Ltd., 53 Bayview Avenue, North Stand, 3, D03 P2Y9, over the following in Counties Laois and :-

Objections to the grant of the licences should be made to the address below within 30 days of the date of this Notice. The Minister reserves the right to make details of the objections available to the applicant in order to fully consider their validity.

NB: A prospecting licence entitles the holder to explore for mineral deposits and does not authorise mining of any minerals. The activities permissible under a licence are, in general, non-invasive and of minimal environmental impact. The Minister has assessed the exploration programme proposed by the company and has determined that the activities are not likely to have a significant effect on the environment.

Decision on Specific Prospecting Activities

The Minister has assessed the exploration project proposed by the company and has determined that the activities are not likely to have a significant effect on the environment and proposes to grant the following Prospecting Licences (PLs).

1641, 2219, 2512, 2513, 2516, 3427, 3649, 3675, 4071 and 4356 (Cos. PL Area Under Application Laois and Kildare). Company Raptor Resources Ltd Mineral exploration including: Geological mapping, prospecting, Activity geochemistry and geophysical surveys. Drilling may be undertaken, if warranted by the results of exploration. Geological mapping, prospecting, geochemistry and geophysical surveys are temporary activities involving minimal disturbance. These activities are not likely to have a significant effect on the environment.

Any proposed drilling will have to comply with the Department’s guidelines and protocols. All drilling activities will require additional environmental screening, in advance of the Department authorising them. Environmental Considerations Additional environmental screening will also be undertaken in the event that the company plans to carry out any activity within a proposed Natural Heritage Area (e.g. (002104), (Kildare) (000392), Derries Wood (000416), The Great Heath of (000881), Dunamase Woods (001494), Rock of Dunamase (000878), Kilteale Hill (000867), Stradbally Hill (001800), Timahoe Esker (000421), Clopook Wood (000860) and Derryvullagh Island (001390)). and SAC (Site Code 002162), Ballyprior Grassland SAC (Site Code 002256).

A screening for Appropriate Assessment has been carried out for the European Sites project. Particular attention has been paid to the European Sites listed above.

It has been determined that the project does not have the potential for significant effects on a European Site. 1.
