The mission of the National Orientation Directors Association is to provide education, leadership, and professional development in the fields of college student orientation, transition and retention.

To create a community of practice that defines and enriches the fields of orientation, transition, and retention.

We are an inclusive community of practitioners and scholars; building, fostering, and sharing an environment that promotes connections of people and ideas for peer-to-peer learning. We value learning and innovation through the research, acquisition, formation, and dissemination of scholarly knowledge, and the sharing of new and emerging best practices. We value diversity of ideas, institutions, and individuals. We practice integrity and model ethical behavior through adherence to professional standards. We take pride in the history and future of our services, programs, and resources. We practice leadership; providing opportunities for professional growth and development both on institutional campuses and within the Association.

As educators of students and colleagues, conference presenters must be particularly sensitive to and aware of the issues of language, and the perpetuation of stereotypes and erroneous assumptions. Presenters are strongly ad- vised to model behavior that will educate their audience. All conference participants, presenters, and entertain- ers are expected to use appropriate sensitive and inclusive terminology so NODA will provide an environment which is comfortable for everyone.

The National Orientation Directors Association declares a policy of equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in the provision of services to the membership and the public. In recognition of responsibility to the membership, NODA reaffirms its policy of fair and equal treatment in all practices to all persons regardless of race, color, age, marital status, sex, gender identity and/or gender expression, religion, national origin, ancestry, sexual/affectional orientation, disability or veteran status. NODA complies with all applicable federal, provincial and state regulations regarding affirmative action and nondiscriminatory practices.

Welcome Blue Suede SROW Region VI!

You are in for an outstanding experience in Memphis, Tennessee. Your SROW 2013 conference hosts have put togeth- er an all-inclusive conference experience for undergraduates, graduates, and professionals in Region VI.

SROW is the time to learn from and share with your peers from across the region. I hope you will to take back to your campus at least one new idea to implement in the coming months. These ideas should not be limited to just your orientation program. I encourage you to think in terms of staff development, recruiting for new orientation staff and aiding in the transition of new students beyond their orientation session. During your time at Memphis, I hope you will also step out of your comfort zone and make connections with those from outside of your community. It is never too early to network, find someone to mentor you or mentor someone and make connections that will last a lifetime. Take advantage of the diverse number of institutions represented at SROW and learn about institutions different than your own.

Please thank your conference hosts and volunteers, who have dedicated countless hours and made numerous profes- sional and personal sacrifices in order to provide you with a positive and memorable experience. Hosting SROW, while it is a great experience, is not a simple task. Please look for ways that the representatives from your institution can support the University of Memphis throughout the SROW weekend.

Have a wonderful conference!

Shannon Calega, M.Ed. Director of Leadership Engagement University of Tampa [email protected] 813.257.3139 NODA Region VI Coordinator

Hello Region VI!

Welcome to SROW! It is always inspiring to see NODA members make a commitment to attend our regional confer- ences. I especially appreciate the volume of student attendance at Region VI. It is so awesome to see students enthu- siastic about learning from others and wanting to be their best when welcoming students to perspective campuses. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the educational and networking opportunities during the conference. Learn from one another and bring back the best to your institution!

Seek out others in your region to learn more about getting involved with NODA. This is your Association and we rely on our volunteer base. Presenting at conferences, writing for a NODA publication, serving on committees, applying for a leadership position, and/or working with your regional and state coordinators to promote NODA, are all excel- lent professional development opportunities and ways to serve the Association.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Association Office at [email protected] or 1.866.521.NODA (6632) should you need assistance or would like to provide feedback. We would love to hear from you.

Enjoy your SROW experience and thank you for supporting NODA. Joyce Holl NODA Executive Director
