It describes an environmental, social and economic performance standard against which large scale developments in the UK and internationally through the BREEAM Communities bespoke international process can be assessed, rated and certified. Please note that this BREEAM Scheme Document and the information detailed there in has been designed for, and to be used by trained, qualified and license BREEAM Assessors in accordance with the procedural and operational requirements of BREEAM under the terms and conditions of a relevant BREEAM licence. This document should be used by non BREEAM Assessors for reference purposes only. Affiliation with the Code for a Sustainable Built Environment The 2012 version of the BREEAM Communities Scheme is affiliated to the BRE Global international Code for a Sustainable Built Environment. The BRE Global Code for a Sustainable Built Environment is a set of strategic principles and requirements which define an integrated approach to the design, management, evaluation and certification of the environmental, social and economic impacts of the built environment. The Code is interpreted through the BREEAM Communities Core Process and Technical Standards. These linked documents set out the requirements that a compliant scheme must meet in order to be affiliated with the Code. The Standards ensure that a common scientific and performance basis is used by all compliant schemes operated by National Scheme Operators whilst ensuring that these can be adapted to suit local demands, standards and practices. BRE Global own and operate a number of affiliated schemes for use in the UK and internationally. Changes to this BREEAM Scheme Document This Scheme Document is subject to revision and can be re-issued at any time without prior notice by BRE Global Limited. A schedule of issue publication dates for this document is provided below. All current issues of BREEAM Scheme Documents are accessible online and available to download from www.breeam.com. The operation of BREEAM (and indeed all its assurance activities) is overseen by an independent Governing Body and a Standing Panel for Peer & Market Review. The Governing Body represents stakeholder interests to ensure, amongst other things, that BRE Global Limited is acting independently and impartially, that it is operating its processes correctly, and that it treats its customers fairly. The Standing Panel provides BRE Global with access to a range of experts who can review BRE Global Limited’s standards and schemes to ensure their robustness from a scientific, technical and market perspective. The Panel also ensures that the development of the standards and schemes is open to external and independent scrutiny. technical manual: version: SD202 – Issue: 1.2 – Issue Date: 14/08/2017 vi About BRE Global Limited BREEAM Communities technical manual Quality Standards To ensure competence, impartiality and performance capability, all National Scheme Operators are required to maintain scheme operations to internationally agreed standards and seek accreditation from a national accreditation body. BRE Global Limited is a United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited certification body (No. 0007). The scope of our accreditation to ISO/IEC 17065 ‘Conformity assessment - Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services’ can be verified on the UKAS website, and includes BREEAM Scheme SD123 ‘Environmental assessments of the built environment – certification of the process’. BRE Global Ltd is also certified to ISO 9001 ‘Quality management systems – Requirements’ for all its BREEAM related activities. As an accredited certification body, BRE Global Limited maintains an open and accountable governance structure. The operation of BREEAM is overseen by an independent
