SHARE - NEWSLETTER - November 25th 2018 Dear Friends I am very much aware of the many financial calls that have been made within the Catholic Church in recent times and I am genuinely grateful for the generous response that has come especially from Mass-going Catholics. Share, our diocesan development fund, is still an important funding lifeline for the many services that support the pastoral outreach of the diocese as well as support for poorer parishes. The coming years will be crucial for us in our efforts to sustain a lively Church and its varied witness to the message of Jesus Christ. Together with the Diocesan Finance Committee, it is my intention to ensure that limited funds are used in an optimal way and that our services are marked by a style of sobriety befitting the Church. The Share newsletter gives you some information on the Share Collection and the way it is utilised. I am sure that you will see how worthwhile and necessary the service is in supporting the Church right across the Archdiocese. With renewed thanks and prayers, THE SECOND COLLECTION, SHARE, IS A CONCRETE EXPRESSION OF COMMUNION BETWEEN THE PEOPLE AND THE PARISHES OF THE DUBLIN DIOCESE. YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT FOR SHARE IS VITAL TO THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH. • Your support helps provide immediate financial support for lower income parishes in difficulty. Church renovations and repairs, development of Parish Centres and assistance with maintenance costs are a priority for the SHARE Building Fund. • Your support for SHARE helps promote the Catholic Faith throughout the 199 parishes of the Archdiocese, giving a particular priority to the spiritual care and evangelisation of young people through the work of the Office for Evangelisation and Ecumenism. • The children learning in our Catholic Schools in our parishes come to know Jesus Christ with the support provided by the Education Secretariat. SHARE funds their work promoting partnership in Religious Education between Home, School and Parish to help children develop a living relationship with Jesus Christ. • SHARE funds Diocesan Offices which assist parishes in meeting their obligations and responsibilities in the areas of charity regulations, data protection, financial management, health and safety and employment legislation. • Your support for SHARE helps the Diocese employ appropriately qualified and trained lay men and women to work in lay ministry. These lay workers collaborate in close partnership with the priests of the parish and the Parish Pastoral Council in the service of the Gospel and the mission of the Church at local level. These Pastoral Workers are funded in part by the SHARE Pastoral Services Fund. • SHARE funds the work of the Office for Financial Development, which has helped parishes raise funding for new and renovated Parish Pastoral centres. Over €1.2 million in financial commitments for our parishes was developed in 2017. These funds complement and extend the work of SHARE. • THE RETURN ON YOUR WEEKLY INVESTMENT IN SHARE IS SIGNIFICANT AND IS ESSENTIAL TO THE MISSION OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBLIN. SHARE SUPPORTS OUR PARISHES, PRIESTS, DEACONS AND LAY PEOPLE WORKING TOGETHER ON A SHARED MISSION • FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR PARISHES • EVANGELISATION AND LITURGY PROGRAMMES • CHILD SAFEGUARDING AND GARDA VETTING • RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION • PASTORAL WORKERS AND CATECHISTS • PARISH FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGNS • ARCHIVES AND DATA PROTECTION • PARISH EMPLOYMENT AND HR SUPPORT, PARISH FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SUPPORT • FAITH DEVELOPMENT WITH YOUNG ADULTS SHARE COLLECTION INCOME AND EXPENDITURE SHARE FOR 12 MONTH PERIOD ENDING 31st DECEMBER 2017 FUND INCOME SHARE COLLECTION (Note 1) 6,331 EXPENDITURE ASSISTANCE TO PARISHES (Note 2) 1,206 DIOCESAN SUPPORT SERVICES 4,378 MAINTENANCE EXPENSES ON SHARE PROPERTIES & DEPRECIATION 395 CONTRIBUTION TO NATIONAL INITIATIVES 644 CONTRIBUTION TO THIRD PARTY INITIATIVES 319 DIT GRANGEGORMAN CHURCH 100 BANK CHARGES 36 OTHER EXPENSES 44 TOTAL EXPENDITURE 7,122 Detailed Financial Statements as filed with the Charities Regulator are available on the Diocesan website at www.DublinDiocese.ie Average Weekly Share Collection ASSISTANCE TO PARISHES (Note 2) € BALCURRIS 50,000 from 2010 to 2017 BALLYFERMOT 121,596 BALLYFERMOT UPPER 22,328 150,000 BELFIELD 4,309 €144,692 BOHERNABREENA 4,920 145,000 BONNYBROOK 55,000 €140,594 BROOKFIELD 43,854 140,000 DARNDALE 25,000 ESKER/DODDSBORO 42,500 €135,280 INCHICORE ST.M. 6,176 135,000 €132,714 JAMES’S STREET 66,000 €129,331 €128,865 €128,017 JOBSTOWN 7,200 130,000 KILBRIDE-BARNDARRIG 8,340 €126,619 KILLINARDEN 15,000 125,000 MULHUDDART 5,000 NEILSTOWN 20,000 PRO CATHEDRAL 211,136 120,000 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 ROWLAGH 225,000 SAGGART 34,496 SALLYNOGGIN 23,144 To learn more about how volunteering and collections, gifts, SEAN MCDERMOTT ST. 24,150 donations and bequests support the work of the Church in the ST.
