It’s a hook-laden blitz!’ – Rob Evans – Powerplay & Fireworks Magazines Sweet, featuring original guitarist Andy Scott, will release their new single “Set Me Free” on Friday 5th March. The song is taken from the band’s current album “Isolation Boulevard” and can be pre-saved from https://backl.ink/144488190. Isolation Boulevard features all the Sweet’s classic hit singles and was recorded with the new line-up during lockdowns between September and October 2020. It’s a reworking of Sweet’s 1975 album multi- million selling “Desolation Boulevard”. The latest single “Set Me Free” is taken from the album, and although it is one of the most covered songs in the band’s repertoire, this marks the first time Sweet has released it as an official single. Over the years, the song has been covered by many rock artists including Vince Neil of Motley Crue, Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) and Saxon. “Recording an album separately in different locations throws up a myriad of technical problems,” says Andy Scott. “It’s impossible for everyone to play at the same time, so all parts are performed the “old” way and then data transferred back to base camp where the magical digital stuff takes over.” Continues Andy, “Sweet would usually record all together in the studio with a performance rather than individually but the pandemic dictated the ways and means. The result is a mind-blowing set of tracks, all the hits and a barrage of heavy-duty glam rock.” Sweet are a British rock and roll institution with a pedigree of 50 years of hit singles. They’ve sold 55 million albums and had 34 number #1 hit singles. Hailed by many as a national treasure with a loyal fanbase, their dazzling arsenal of rock music stands the test of time. The music is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago when Sweet first stormed the UK Charts in January 1971. Andy Scott, the songwriter, and last man standing from the original band, has produced a remarkable album given the challenging circumstances that we face globally today. Every Cloud Has One Renewed and revitalized, Soul Asylum founders Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy return to rock’s front line with THE SILVER LINING, their first new studio release since 1998’s Candy From a Stranger. That album inadvertently kicked off a seven-year sabbatical for the group, which telescoped into the death of bassist Karl Mueller in June 2005, the other founding member of the triumvirate that has steered Soul Asylum through rock’s white water for the past two decades plus. The re-emergence of the group on THE SILVER LINING is as much a reaffirmation of Soul Asylum’s commitment to the music as it is a dedication to Karl, who worked and played on the album right up until the end. They were joined in the studio by not-so-new heavyweight Minneapolis drummer Michael Bland (who has played with everyone from Paul Westerberg to Prince). The band is now complemented by Tommy Stinson on bass, a member of fellow Twin Cities band the Replacements since age 13, and a pal of Dan’s since he was in high school and Tommy in junior high. Tommy was the only friend that Karl could endorse to replace himself in the band. This hard-driving lineup was introduced for the first time in October 2005, when they played sold-out showcase dates at First Avenue in Minneapolis and the Bowery Ballroom in New York – within three days.

    THERE WILL BE BLAME: MISFORTUNE AND INJUSTICE IN THE SWEET HEREAFTER Timothy P. O’Neill † INTRODUCTION The scene is a January morning in a small town. A school bus on its regular route veers off a road, crashes through a guardrail, and sinks through the ice of a water-filled sandpit. Fourteen children are killed. One of the survivors is paralyzed for life. The bus driver escapes with relatively minor injuries. There is no apparent reason for the crash. A man driving behind the bus did not notice any reckless conduct by the experienced bus driver. The bus simply left the road, killing fourteen children. How does a small town react to this sudden loss of so many of its children? How does it explain to itself what happened? How does it begin to bind its wounds? This is the basic story of The Sweet Hereafter, a 1991 Russell Banks novel that Atom Egoyan turned into a film in 1997. Judith Shklar divides disasters such as this into two categories: misfortunes and injustices. 1 A misfortune is a dreadful event that is caused by external forces of nature; because it could not be prevented, people must resign themselves to their suffering. An injustice, on the other hand, is a disaster brought about by human agency; because it could have been prevented, people express outrage, assign blame, and seek relief. Injustices can result in legal recoveries; misfortunes do not. Much of the book and film follow an out-of-town personal injury lawyer in his attempts to enlist the grieving parents as prospective clients in a lawsuit.

INFO: Als sich THE SWEET 1978 mit ihrer letzten in Originalbesetzung aufgenommenen LP "Level Headed " von den großen Bühnen verabschiedeten, hatten sie eine mehr als turbulente Karriere hinter sich gebracht . SWEET waren eine der Bands, die erfolgreich auf der Glam– Rock Welle ritten, die in den frühen siebziger Jahren äußerst populär bei den Kids war. Ihre Single-Produktionen boten Zündstoff für die Charts und sie erzielten über Jahre hinweg Top 10 Platzierungen. In den Jahren 1971- 1975 feierten SWEET ihre größten Erfolge, spielten bis zu 300 Konzerte pro Jahr und zierten fast wöchentlich die Titelseite der BRAVO und anderen Musikzeitschriften. In der ZDF DISCO waren sie Dauergäste. Sie begeisterten die Leute mit ihrem einzigartigen Auftreten, um das viele Bands sie zu Recht beneideten. Andererseits wurden sie auch von vielen wegen ihres Outfits und der Musik belächelt. SWEET hatten aber speziell in Deutschland immer treue Fans, die an die Band glaubten und sich nichts Negatives einreden ließen. Denn der Sound von SWEET wurde von Kritikern gerne als zu simpel herabgewürdigt, und die vier Süßen kämpften spätestens seit dem Versuch, als echte Rockmusiker anerkannt zu werden mit der Tatsache, dass ein musikalischer Imagewandel schwerlich zu vollziehen ist.

    FAMOUS ABBA FANS TALK: SUZI QUATRO QUOTE: “Beethoven 'was' the pop writer for the classical era. ABBA were influenced by this. It’s in every song they ever wrote.” Undoutably, Suzi Quatro broke down the barriers for many female rock stars with her tough leather-clad look and catchy pop/rock tunes during the glam rock years of the early 70s. A big ABBA fan herself, Suzi enthusiastically accepted the offer to join our Famous ABBA Fans Gallery. With her fantastic cover of Does Your Mother Know that she recently recorded, she certainly deserves her place in the ABBA annals. I met Suzi at the Stag Studios in Essex (“It's a nice little studio. On my new box set there is the track Desperado with Jeff Beck, and I recorded the piano and the vocals here”), where she rehearsed for her upcoming BBC radio show in celebration of her 50 years in the music business. At what time did ABBA enter your life and did you become a fan? I worked with ABBA way back when Ring Ring was a single. We did a TV show together in Belgium and lots of TV after that. We ran into each other quite a bit. Their style wasn't exactly finalised yet. I didn't actually become a fan until Waterloo. I thought they were fab and turned the Eurovision Song Contest on its head. What are your memories of meeting the ABBA members? Nice people - very normal. In your opinion what is the greatest merit of ABBA's music? The simplicity.
