During college basketball’s most recent 20 WINS AGAIN: Boise State reached the 20-win decade, starting with the 2010-11 campaign plateau for the eighth time in Leon Rice’s 10 years and running through the 2019-20 season, as head coach, and the seventh time in the last eight seasons. His 80.8 percent clip from the line ranked sixth in the league and 147th nationally, among players with at least 2.5 makes per game.

DISHING IT OUT: Derrick Alston has long been lauded for his high-level feel for the game and ability to make plays. After establishing himself as a scorer, Alston stepped up as a facilitator. He tallied a team-high 98 assists last season, dishing out a career-high seven helpers in Boise State’s win against UNC Wilmington (Nov. 29), and nearly matching that the next time out with six at New Mexico (Dec. 4).

ALL-TOURNAMENT: Derrick Alston was named to the Diamond Head Classic All- Tournament Team. Alston led the Broncos to a 2-1 record at the tournament, averaging 23.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. He was one of five players named to the team. Alston led the tournament in scoring with 71 points in the three games. His 14 assists were the third most in the tournament.

ALSTON’S BIG NIGHT: Derrick Alston scored 28 points at No. 15 Oregon (Nov. 9), the most points by a Bronco against a ranked team since Derrick Marks poured in 35 in a Boise State win at No. 11 Creighton, Nov. 28, 2012.

QUANTUM LEAP: Derrick Alston, Jr. has scored 995 points the last two seasons, but the elite productivity came after redshirting in 2016-17 and averaging 0.6 points in 11 games as a redshirt freshman in 2017-18. Alston’s scoring average jumped to 13.4 ppg as a redshirt sophomore. The 12.8 points-per-game leap between 2017-18 and 2018-19 was the largest jump from one season to the next for any returning Boise State player in program history. His improvement was the second largest in terms of points per game for any returner in NCAA Division I that season.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS: An all-district performer in high school, Derrick Alston arrived at Boise State as a walk-on in the summer of 2016, weighing 148 pounds. After redshirting the 2016-17 season, Alston was up to 170 pounds. He saw 26 total minutes of action and added another 15 pounds during the 2017-18 campaign before exploding onto the scene as a redshirt sophomore in 2018-19.
