Harris School House, 3.5 miles north of Cameron, suffered a fire. The fire started in the coal house and destroyed the school.

50 years ago – 1966

Tom Carroll of Memphis, Tenn. was backing out of a driveway over the crest of a hill in front of an oncoming vehicle, driven by Paul Knudsen. Knudsen was unable to avoid the Carrol vehicle. Carroll was issued a summons, charging him with failure to yield the right of way by being on the wrong side of the road. Knudsen received a bruised head and neck.

The students in 3rd-6th grade were presented with the “Pillowcase Project” an emergency preparedness program that helps kids understand what to do in case of various emergencies such as fire, tornado, or earth- quake. The students made their own emergency prepared- ness kit. The students in Kindergarten-2nd grade were treated with a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog along with a presentation about fire safety. They learned the ABC’s of fire safety and enjoyed hugs and high fives from Sparky.
