It is intended to provide you with a brief overview of our location, day-to-day life within our small group of rural parishes and how we currently go about delivering the Gospel, along with our future aspirations. It is by no means exhaustive, but will, hopefully, contain enough information to inspire you to want to learn more. At the end of this document you will find contact details for both further enquiry and how to apply. Thank you for your interest. 3 Introduction The Benefice of Cranford, Grafton Underwood and Twywell in Northamptonshire was served by the Rector, the Revd Daniel Foot, for 35 years until his retirement at the end of September 2018. Slipton was informally added to this group in 1995. This document has been prepared to acquaint a potential successor with information concerning the four parish group. Although, since the inclusion of Slipton, now not wholly a formal Benefice, we regard ourselves as one. In general terms and for the purposes of this Profile and Vision Statement we refer to ourselves as a ‘ United Benefice ’.

  • Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year. For corrections and updates, please contact Ecumenical Officer, Maria Bergstrand, Ms., Stockholm Diocese, Church of Sweden, E-mail: [email protected] JANUARY 3/1 Church of England: Diocese of London, Bishop Sarah Mullally, Bishop Graham Tomlin, Bishop Pete Broadbent, Bishop Rob Wickham, Bishop Jonathan Baker, Bishop Ric Thorpe, Bishop Joanne Grenfell. Editorial Our annual business meeting was held at the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, nth May, 1910. The attendance was unusually meagre. The officers were re-elected, and routine business attended to. Mr. A. Peel gave an account of the work in which he is engaged on the Morrice MSS. ; and it was reported that the treasurer (who was absent through indisposition) had made sub stantial progress with his important work on the Indulgence documents. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the secretary of the Congregational Union as to the possibility of an historical volume of the Congregational Lecture, in which several capable persons should collaborate, to signalize the approaching 250th anniversary of the Act of Uniformity. "' "' We give a hearty welcome to No. 3 of the " Congregational Worthies" series, issued by the Congregational Union. This is a concise but very informing life of Robert Browne, Pioneer of Modern Co11grqfalio11alism, by the Rev. Dr. Powicke. So much additional light has been shed on Browne's life and character by the researches of Messrs. Burrage and Cater that almost everything printed on the subject before 1904 may now be regarded as obsolete. Dr. Powicke has made good use of the fruits of recent research, and has studied at first hand works of Browne's that have never been reprinted. He has quietly ignored several alleged facts, which rest only on doubtful tradition, and has used his own judgement on some points on which his views will not command universal assent. In particular, he rejects Dr. Dexter's opinion of Browne's mental disorder, and also the generally received tradition that he died in prison.

Some details about Cumberland Lodge appear at the end of this booklet. The Conference is promoting a public discussion of the nature of establishment and the challenges it may face in the years ahead, both from a constitutional vantage point and in parochial ministry for the national church. A stellar collection of experts has been brought together for a unique conference which will seek to re-imagine the national church and public religion in the increasingly secular world in the current second Elizabethan age and hereafter. Robert Blackburn will deliver a keynote lecture on constitutional issues of monarchy, parliament and the Church of England. Norman Doe and Colin Podmore will assess the centenaries of, respectively, the Welsh Church Act 1914 and the Church of England Assembly (Powers) Act 1919 (known as the ‘Enabling Act’), and the experience of English and Welsh Anglicanism over this period.

  • Pastoral Letter 46
Abington Pastoral Letter No.46 06.03.2021 Dear friends We shall not lose them Since I announced that the services will be livestreamed from the church building, not from the Rectory from this Sunday, many friends told me how much they appreciated and enjoyed the services we have been sharing over the last couple of months. Thank you so much for all those encouraging and kind messages. Over the last 12 months of this journey, it has become absolutely clear to us now that the Eucharist celebrated in an ordinary home can be as holy and appropriate as the Eucharist celebrated in a grand cathedral. We have been blessed, comforted and inspired by the co- presence of the homeliness and holiness in our offering of the Eucharist; a child's curious look and innocent response at the presence of the sacrament; the endless love and grace of God to us revealed in the imperfect, humble but genuine offering of our worship and prayer. I really believe, friends, that was our moments of encountering God in this unexpected journey in the wilderness just like the people of Israel did when they were wandering in the wilderness after coming out of Egypt. It appears that the landscape will gradually start changing. We will slowly come out of the wilderness. We are not there yet. And there will be still significant challenges ahead of us. But things will be a little bit different than how they were 12 months ago. And we must not lose or forget what we experienced, learnt and discovered about our God, ourselves and our worship.
