Dmitriy Salita Congratulates Boxing’s Newest Elite Heavyweight, Otto Wallin Dmitriy Salita, promoter of the fighter everyone is talking about this morning, Otto Wallin, wishes to congratulate the giant Swede for his unveiling and ascension into elite-level status in heavyweight boxing. Despite coming in as a 25-1 underdog against lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury on Saturday night at the T- Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the fearless southpaw Wallin took the fight to Fury in a spirited challenge, cutting him twice and hurting him badly in the 12th and final round. The previously unknown Wallin can no longer be ignored in the landscape of top heavies and promoter Salita, who repeatedly predicted an upset in the weeks leading up to the fight, says he’s extremely proud of the 28-year-old from Sundsvall, Sweden. “Otto showed he is undoubtedly a top heavyweight,” said Salita. “He landed more punches on Fury than anyone ever has according to CompuBox. He was relentless and fearless. I am so proud of him and his incredible performance.” Statistics don’t lie. Wallin’s 127 landed (total) punches were indeed the most ever tracked by a Fury opponent. By comparison, Deontay Wilder landed just 71 against Fury and Wladimir Klitschko only 52. Through six rounds, as the doctor’s were checking Fury’s 40- plus stitch cut (caused by a clean punch) the punch stats were virtually even with Wallin landing with much better accuracy. The fight was capped by Wallin’s heart-stopping final round where he chased a staggered and exhausted Fury around the ring and landed 23 of 37 punches compared to Fury’s 10 of 42. Though the final scores were 116-112, 117-111 and 118-110 for Fury, the world is now abuzz with Wallin’s “victory in defeat.” “We knew what we had when we signed him and now the world knows,” continued Salita. “Otto had boxed less than one round in 16 months coming in and still did all that. It was a real- life Rocky moment and he deserves all the praise pouring in. The sky is now the limit for this unstoppable young man.”.

Inertial sensors are one technology being used for performance monitoring. Within combat sports, there is an emerging trend to use this type of technology; however, the use and selection of this technology for combat sports has not been reviewed. To address this gap, a systematic literature review for combat sport athlete performance analysis was conducted. A total of 36 records were included for review, demonstrating that inertial measurements were predominately used for measuring strike quality. The methodology for both selecting and implementing technology appeared ad-hoc, with no guidelines for appropriately analysing the results. This review summarises a framework of best practice for selecting and implementing inertial sensor technology for evaluating combat sport performance. Adam Kownacki UDs Chris Arreola In Record Setting Heavyweight Punch-Fest BROOKLYN, NY — Polish-born Brooklyn heavyweight Adam “Babyface” Kownacki upped his perfect record to 20-0, 15KO, earning a hard-fought twelve round unanimous decision against former three-time world title challenger Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (38-6-1, 33KO) in the main event of a FOX broadcast from the Barclays Center. Judges scores were 118-110 and 117-111 for Kownacki. The fight was fought at a frantic pace for two big men who tipped the scales at a combined 510¼ pounds (Kownacki, 266¼ & Arreola 244). Combined, the two sluggers threw 2,172 punches, landing 667 of them, both CompuBox records for the heavyweight division. Kownacki, 30, wasted no time forcing the action, as he came off his stool firing in the bout’s opening round firing loaded shots that immediately had Arreola retreating. The 6’3” Pole continued to stalk Arreola, who tried to jab his way out of harm’s way. Once that task proved too difficult, Arreola made adjustments, and in the ensuing rounds the 38 year-old Californian began to smother Kownacki, continuously leaning on him and forcing the fight in-close. From round two through twelve, the fight would be fought in- tight, which certainly wore on each fighter as they seemingly gassed midway through each round. Kownacki seemingly landed at will and was more creative with his punches than Arreola, who possibly broke his right hand in the third round. The Pole, who is trained by Keith Trimble, varied his offense, threw uppercuts, short left hooks, and right crosses around Arreola’s guard.

INTRODUCTION Boxing is a dangerous sport.1 This was tragically illustrated twice within three months in 2005 when both Martin Sanchez and Leavander Johnson died after suffering injuries during professional boxing matches.2 Sanchez died shortly after suffering a brain bleed during a fight with Rustam Nugaev; Johnson, who also received a fatal brain injury, died five days after his fight with Jesus Chavez.3 While boxing is undoubtedly dangerous,4 extensive regulations covering boxer safety have supposedly made the sport safer.5 Despite the presence of these regulations, the circumstances surrounding the recent deaths of Sanchez and Johnson, especially the death of Sanchez, have led many to believe that the current safety regulations are not being properly enforced.6 For example, one of these regulations requires each boxer to undergo a pre- fight physical examination.7 However, there is evidence that 1 For a history of boxer injuries and legislative responses, see Sen.

Introducing J.J. Ambrose The name J.J. Ambrose is likely familiar to those who closely follow mixed martial arts, but if you only follow the older combat sport of boxing, you probably have not heard of him. That is because the young MMA veteran will be making his professional boxing debut this Friday night at the Orange County Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, California. While still a wrestler in high school, Ambrose found his way to sanctioned combat in 2004. Working out at a gym, Ambrose was approached about an upcoming MMA event in nearby Lake Havasu City, Arizona and quickly agreed to fight on the card. “Every weekend we were watching UFC fights, and I remember thinking at the time that if I could just punch Matt Hughes in the face one time, I could be champion,” recalls Ambrose. “Little did I know at the time, I was just a stupid, ignorant kid.” Despite his ignorance, and only about two weeks of prep time, Ambrose won his first bout against an equally inexperienced foe by guillotine choke. “The guy wasn’t very good as it was, so it wasn’t a big deal,” says Ambrose in retrospect. “But at the time it was huge. I was a kid in high school that won a fight.” In the years since, Ambrose has dedicated himself to mixed martial arts, amassing a listed record of 15-3, 3 KOs, 9 Submissions. Currently Ambrose lives in San Jose, California and trains alongside some of the world’s best mixed martial artists at the American Kickboxing Academy.
