When JMTIA was established in 1955, a list of members with their product lines was published. In the beginning it was called “Agency List” and in 1998, the name was changed to “Directory”. JMTIA has published “Agency List” or “Directory” every two years since 1955. In December, 1999 JMTIA opened its own website, which was renewed with new classification of machine accessories and tools in 2004. Furthermore, in 2012, JMTIA website recreated so that we can search a various kinds of information by utilizing the database of members’ information. The latest directory is edited based on the contents of JMTIA website. We hope you will find this directory useful for your business development in sales, purchase and/or maintenance. A Brief History of JMTIA (1955 - 2014) 29 leading importers of machine tool gathered in Osaka on April 20, 1955, to form the Association of Machine Tool Importers. Since then the association contributed to reconstruct the devastated manufacturing industries in Japan through the introduction of high quality mother machine and endeavored to organize the first Japan International Machine Tool Fair in 1962. Duty free import for machine tool officially started in 1983, while due to the increase of export business by the members, the association was called “Machine Tool Traders’ Association of Japan” for 1966-1978. The office of association moved from Shiba to Toranomon in 1963, and the name changed to the present JMTIA, Japan Machine Tool Importers’ Association, in 1979. In the late 80s, machine tool was held up as one of the symbolic products causing trade friction between U.S.A. and Japan. JMTIA contributed to calm it down and continues to aim for better trade balance through its promotion of machine tool import. JMTIA published “Global Business Half Century” to celebrate its 50th anniversary in February, 2006. JMTIA will dispatch a mission to IMTS2014 in September, 2014 and in November, 36 JMTIA members will exhibit the most advanced machine tools at JIMTOF2014. Mission JMTIA is to contribute to the development of Japanese industry and economy by promoting imports of metal working equipment and technology such as cutting machine tools, forming machine tools, measuring/testing equipment, robotics, CAD/CAM systems, cutting tools and accessories and by holding various events which are common benefit to members. Member Categories Membership consists of the regular members, supporting members and the honorary members.
