Weekly Newsletter January 5, 2016 Volume 5, Issue 1 Happy New Year and Welcome Back Academy Families! Inside this issue: We find ourselves in a New Year and a new semester! Let our New Year’s resolution in the studio be one of determination to let our love of dance show and be contagious in our Happy New Year 1 dancing. It is an important semester where students can focus, even more, on listening to and Summer Intensive 1 applying all corrections which will bring them maximum progress and confidence in their Auditions at CB dancing! We also move toward preparation for our Spring Production, which is a time of Calendar Highlights & 2 growth for all. We wish all of our students a successful and inspired second semester and Class Updates remind them that it is focus, commitment, determination and discipline that will move them Adult Classes: Friends 3 forward both in the studio and in any other area of their lives. Talent is important but no Dance Free Week amount of talent will bring success and accomplishment without the discipline and passion Guest Teacher 3 interwoven into what you choose to pursue. Looking forward to 2016 and new opportunities and growth! Important Reminders 4 & Announcements - Academy Dean, Catherine Batcheller Summer Intensive Auditions at Cincinnati Ballet Even with outside temperatures dropping, it is the season to start thinking about summer dance training. January and February are the months when many Summer Intensive Auditions are held. There are a number of programs holding their auditions at Cincinnati Ballet. Check out the “Summer Intensive Audition” Wall and Binder! All classes below will run during their regular times in the studios listed below for this week only. Level 1: This Wednesday, January 6, 5:15-6:30 PM with Ms. Donna Anderle will take place in Studio A. Petite Pas de Deux: This Wednesday, January 6, 5:30-6:00 PM with Ms. Donna Anderle will take place in Studio A. CD 1: This Thursday, January 7, 9:30-10:15 AM with Ms. Dena Morley will take place in Studio B. CD 3: This Thursday, January 7, 4:15-5:15 PM with Ms. Donna Anderle will take place in Studio A. Level 1: This Thursday, January 7, 5:15-6:30 PM with Ms. Donna Anderle will start in Studio A and finish in Studio C. Level 3: This Friday, January 8, 4:15-6:15 PM with Ms. Dawn Kelly will take place in Studio A. For class schedule and more information about the Adult Classes, please visit: cballet.org/wordpress/academy/adult-division/ Next Week - Guest Teacher: Karina Elvers Ms. Elvers will be visiting Cincinnati Ballet as a guest teacher during the week of The following classes will be taught by January 11 and will work with both the company dancers and our Academy students in guest instructor, Karina Elvers: Main Division Levels 4—7. Wednesday January 13: Karina Elver has danced and worked with the Royal Level 6 & 7 combined 6:15-8:15 PM Danish Ballet for over 32 years. Today she works in New York as a ballet teacher/choreographer/ Thursday January 14: repetiteur and Bournonville specialist, and also travels Level 5, 6:15-8:45 PM the world teaching, staging and directing ballets. Friday January 15: “I am very grateful to be able to share my “Danish roots” with aspiring students and our future dancers. Level 4, 6:15-8:30 PM In passing on this knowledge it is my hope that their dancing becomes richer and more informed.” Saturday January 16: Level 6 & 7 combined 1:45-4:15 PM More information on Karina can be found at karinaelver.com Students currently enrolled in the classes listed will simply take their regularly scheduled class with special guest, Ms. Elvers. Current Academy students of the appropriate level not enrolled in the class days listed who desire to take with the guest instructor may do so for $25 per class. If attending a class you are not enrolled in, please check in with the front desk receptionist prior to class time to submit payment and fill out a form. Students outside Cincinnati Ballet Academy are invited to take these classes for $35 per class. Non-academy students should contact 513.562.1111 for more information and to determine the most appropriate level and class time options. Page 4 Weekly Newsletter Important Reminders & Announcements Have you saved the date for Spring Production 2016? Spring Production 2016 Main Division - May 20, 2016 Children’s Division - May 21, 2016 Children’s Division - Costume Measurements past due! Please submit measurements no later than this Friday January 8. Please check your email inbox for an email including a link to an online form to be filled out. Main Division - Spring Production Contracts due January 15. Contracts should have been received via hard copy mail with evaluations over the holiday break. These contracts are due back by January 15. Main Division Mid-year Evaluations Main Division Mid-year Evaluations All Main Division students, Levels 1—7 are evaluated on their progress twice a year by the Academy Dean, Catherine Batcheller, and their individual instructors. Mid-year evaluations were sent out via hard copy mail over the holiday break. If your Main Division dancer did not receive an evaluation, please contact the Academy staff at 513.562.1111 Our returning Academy families know that this school year we were thrilled to launch a new Academy uniform in partnership with Motionwear. Academy Student Attire We understand transition takes time and have allowed students to acquire this new attire slowly during the first semester. As we return back from Holiday Break in the new year, we would like to see ALL of our students transition into wearing this new attire. Registration Closing Registration for the 2015-2016 Academy Year will be closing in January! in January Please let any interested friends know to contact the Academy before the dates listed below if they are interested in joining! Children’s Division - Registration closes January 15, 2016 Main Division - Registration closes January 29, 2016 Please note that following these dates, current student schedule change requests will only be honored under extenuating circumstances. .
