Message from the Headteacher: Emergency School Closure

S hould the school need to close in an emergency situaon (such as snow closure) then we will follow the guidance from the Local Authority available here. Supporng this, our own procedures include the following:

Emergency closure occur whilst school is in session:

 The Headteacher will nofy Governors and the Local Authority that the school will close. The LA will inform local radio staons  An email and automated telephone call will be sent to parents to nofy them of the school closure  Using student mobile phones or the school administrave phones, we will aempt to make contact with all parents/carers to grant permission to release their children from school. Should we be unable to make contact with parents/carers: Students whose parent/carer has signed the consent form to release their child to go home in the case of an emergency school closure (below) will be released from school Students whose parent/carer has not signed the consent form will not be permied to go home unl direct telephone contact has been made between the tutor and parent. (This may delay student departure from school and transport home on service buses)  Parents/carers will be informed via email, the school website and radio announcement regarding further closure days.

Castle Compeon 2017 picking 3 winners from the 36 finalists. Woods (TJHe). Anou’s and Abi’s We had some creave entries with castles were fantascally detailed and

students building siege weapons to go historically accurate and Ella Wood’s with their castles and using unique castle was very realisc and well he annual Castle Compeon took T materials such as rubbish that had researched. Thank you to year 7 for so place on Friday 8th December. This washed up onto a local beach. The much collecve effort! year’s entries were of an exceponally winners this year were Anou Sabeen high standard and once again the (RDMe), Abi Stuart (TRWe) and Ella The History Department History department had a difficult job

Probably Richard Lander School’s most successful rugby team ever pictured at their last match. Our current Under 16 team have cleaned up in compeons since they joined us in Year 7. Sadly this last match wasn’t a win as they were beaten 10‐ 7 in the semi‐final of the County Cup. They are sll smiling though and we wouldn’t want life to be too perfect would we!

D o you want to be part of Richard Lander School’s Greenpower team? If so, now is your chance to apply…

Greenpower applicaon forms are available to collect from the cars area opposite student recepon. All students need to apply through this process. The deadline for applicaons is the 26th January.

About the process: Once applicaon has been received, students may be shortlisted before being invited to a workshop where they will be given a task to complete. The decision is primarily made by the exisng team members who retain GRKn ‐ Random Acts of their place (unless they’ve lost Kindness interest or have shown a lack of commitment).

The exisng team members use a decision matrix to score the Maths Department applicants on team work; launch RLS Countdown leadership; technical awareness; communicaon and listening skills. Lander for Uganda 2018 popular with students. The team total is Fundraising Update currently on £13,547.73!! Our superstar T he Lander for Uganda team are fundraisers of December working really hard to hit their are Amelie and Blaise mammoth £20,000 target. The School who took their L4U cra Christmas Sleepover was really stall to Perranporth successful and raised over £2500, Café Christmas Fair and raised Uganda and the L4U Uniform stall are a staggering £379.32! both open at all parent’s evenings and Thank you for all your Treat Friday connues to be really support!

Compeon for students.. Young Photographer is back... This year's theme ' A Different Perspecve'

We have a great track record as a school and we know there are many imaginave, original photographers out there. Every year we look forward to seeing your entries.

You need:  3 photos in high resoluon on 'A Different Perspecve' ‐ Phone photos are fine but make sure it's on highest resoluon sengs and don't apply Instagram filters please or make sure you have also saved the original.

 Photographs which include people under 18 years old must be accompanied by wrien permission from the parent, guardian, or carer of the person for those photographs to be submied ‐ A simple handwrien note is fine. It needs to name subject and photographer (you)

 Judges will consider technical merit; content and composion; imaginaon and style. The winners of our local heat will be submied to our district compeon covering and Cornwall, and the best entries in that compeon will be forwarded to compete naonally. There are prizes at all levels :)
