Micky Flanagan - Back in the Game 15 Nov Micky Flanagan is exactly my kind of comedian. He's got the typical cockney accent, cheeky smile and joke after joke that reduces fans to tears of laughter. If you have plans tonight or tomorrow - scrap them, because you need to go see Micky, and I'm going to tell you why. It's been quite a while since I saw a comedian live and as a fan of Micky, I was Micky Flanagan - Back in the Game excited to be invited along and Micky Flanagan - Back in the Game the chance to watch the first Nottingham show of his tour. I've watched Micky on his numerous TV appearances over the past couple of years and I'm regularly watching his videos on YouTube. I think his comedy is hilarious and if you've ever seen him before, whether on TV or live, I'm sure he will have had you in stitches! With a simple stage set, it's clear that Micky doesn't need over the top theatrics for his show, no, his jokes are all the theatrics he needs and the simple sign with his name in lights and an almost star like background, you're full attention is on Micky, the 51 year old from Bethnal Green, London, whose making you howl with laughter and bringing back floods of memories from the good old days. Micky's show has a perfect balance of past and present, sharing funny stories and comical situations that leave the crowds gasping in shock, smiling in appreciation and laughing along with the 10, strong crowd there with you. They say laughter is infectious, and after spending last night laughing til I had tears in my eyes with 10, other people, I think it's safe to say the saying is definitely spot on! Micky might be 51 but you don't need to worry about being too young or too old for his humour. With jokes spanning from the 's all the way to the present day, Micky covers any age group who might be in the crowd. With stories of his childhood, his youth, all Micky Flanagan - Back in the Game way through to marriage and fatherhood, Micky has it covered. Stories that would embarrass his wife, dad and nan all feature throughout, and you'll definitely be thinking twice next time you pick up a sandwich in a petrol station! Micky is a comedian for all - although if you're easily embarrassed, Micky Flanagan - Back in the Game going with your parents! With everything from nudist holidays in Spain to recreational drug use in the 70's and 80's, Micky will take you on a journey that is guaranteed to have you grinning ear to ear. If you can get to one of his remaining two Nottingham shows this weekend, I cannot recommend it enough! I had an amazing night and I will be laughing as I remember jokes from the night for days to come! Tickets are available for Friday November 15th and Saturday November 16th. I focus here specifically on female fans of male solo singers, particularly to explore the way gendered fandom is presented when the women are older than the teenage female fans most often associated with male artists (Ehrenreich et al 1992; Din and Cullingford 2004). Hodkinson notes that participation in music subcultures has often been 'regarded as a temporary accompaniment to the broader experience of being adolescent' (2011: 262) and Cavicchi argues that: The obsessive activities of fandom - collecting artifacts and photographs, imitating a star's dress and manners, camping overnight for concert tickets, creating fanzines, joining fan clubs - are accepted only as the temporary behaviour of hormone-driven (usually female) teenagers, who, when reaching adulthood, are expected to settle into the more mature behavior of work or motherhood (1998: 6) Yet, it is becoming clear that music fandom is no longer the sole preserve of the young.

  • A Global Industry
CHAPTER •••• 1 A global industry Introduction The conference industry is a young, dynamic industry which is growing and maturing at a rapid rate. From origins in Europe and North America, it is now a truly international industry witnessing huge investments across all continents. Its youthfulness, however, does mean that it lacks some of the necessary characteristics of more established industries, such as well defined terminology, adequate market intelligence, appropriate education and training structures and clear entry routes. Conferences are part of the business tourism (or business events) sector, a major though often under-valued sector of the wider tourism industry. This chapter looks at: • the origins of the conference industry • the foundations of a proper industry • the industry’s recent globalisation • world rankings of leading cities and countries • certain industry shortcomings • industry parameters and definitions • business tourism and leisure tourism • the benefits of conference and business tourism. It includes case studies on: • City of Melbourne, Australia • The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London, England • Hyderabad International Convention Centre, India • Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates • Coral Beach Hotel and Resort, Paphos, Cyprus. Conferences and Conventions Learning outcomes On completion of this chapter, you should be able to: • Explain why and how the conference industry developed in the way it did • Understand the international dimensions of the industry and appreciate which are the most successful cities

  • Plymouth Music Venue Report
OFFICIAL PLYMOUTH MUSIC REPORT 2019 Draft Version 5, 11 December 2019 OFFICIAL ABOUT THIS REPORT Plymouth City Council has supported live music through a variety of initiatives including previous years Live Music Nights, offering opportunities for local artists to perform in the heart of the city centre, offering opportunities for local artists to perform at major city events and through providing free marketing opportunities for events and activities across the city through the city marketing website Visit Plymouth. Following the closure of the Hub and the responses received Plymouth City Council initiated a round table to bring together partners from across the city to share concerns and discuss a way forward. Following this Music Venue Trust was appointed to carry out a piece of research to map the venues and audiences in and around the city and to put on a Fightback event to celebrate the broad range of music and grassroots venues that exist within the city. There is an appetite and willingness to support the local music industry with the creation of a plan for music from the outcomes of this report and a partnership approach to support the industry working alongside Plymouth Culture, the organisation leading the cultural direction of the city. In the 2021 Visitor Plan, Music has been identified as a key strand in the future vision and development for the positioning of the city, with a plan to position Plymouth as a music city, to build on its heritage and support the local music industry in promoting the city as a place to see, experience and work in music.
