ACOUSTIC CHRISTIAN FREDERICK MARTIN, SR. 1796-1873 Founder, C. F. Martin & Co., Inc. THE MARTIN COMPANY

C. F. Martin & Co. stands alone as the oldest surviving maker of guitars in the world. Through each of the six generations of family members that have managed the company, the Martin name has been held in high esteem as a symbol of enduring craftsmanship and quality. Through the decades, Martin has had to adapt to widely varying economic, political, and cultural changes. Events such as the Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, the Spanish American conflict, the Great Depression, and two World Wars challenged the company’s ability to survive and thrive.
