"Die 11 Lieder Von Jenny Evans' CD Christmas Songs Sind Weit Entfernt
CHRISTMAS SONGS ENJ-9481 2 Heart warming Christmas Songs – the title is not quite as original as the music behind it. In comparison to Diana Krall’s CD Jenny Evans offers more unexpected tones. Her repertoire coincides with her Canadian colleague in two numbers („The Christmas Song“, „Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas“) but apart from that the English woman who lives in Munich gives her Christmas album a definite European touch. Most noticably in her choice of material: she’s searched through Eruopean folk tunes and as well as English has also discovered German, Austrian and Czech songs that have never been rendered in a jazzy way. Some go backe to the 16th century (e.g. „The Coventry Carol“) for Jenny Evans, who started her career with piano lessons with the Baroque specialist Trevor Pinnock, then sang with the Henrich Schütz Choir and the Munich Motettenchor an ideal area to merge her love of Early Music with jazz by no means stretches the bow too far. She gives a a latin groove to “Blessed Be That Maid Mary” with its Latin and English lyrics, her own lyrics and an Akro-Cuban rhythm to a Czech Christmas lullaby and the Austrian “Still, still, still“ a world music touch with drone and yodelling. When she does go turn to the American repertoire whtn it is with a medley of two popular standards (“Little Drummer Boy / Nature Boy”) that have never been heard together. With her dulcet voice this vocalist can warm your heart and that is the main thing at this season. -

Pucker Up! It's That Time of Year. Once Again the Airwaves Are Filled with Beautiful Christmas Songs. Most Convey a Message
Yard and Garden – 12-19-2015 – Ted Griess/Extension Horticulture Assistant Pucker up! It’s that time of year. Once again the airwaves are filled with beautiful Christmas songs. Most convey a message of joy and peace on earth to all humankind. However, some Christmas tunes include in their lyrics the name of a certain plant that conveys a reason to start kissing. For example, take the song I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, or how about The Christmas Song better known as Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire? Then, there is the song I’ll Be Home for Christmas. These are just a few Christmas tunes that have in their lyrics the name of a plant scientifically known as Viscum album. Most of us know it as mistletoe. Throughout history, mistletoe has inspired all sorts of mystique and charm. It is perceived to hold magical properties. When mistletoe is in our presence, it supposedly creates an amorous atmosphere for us humans to start kissing. In contrast, this plant is actually parasitic. A parasite is defined as an organism that lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host’s expense. Mistletoe has leathery evergreen leaves with waxy white berries. It grows primarily on the branches of deciduous trees such as ash, hawthorn and oak. Deemed somewhat tropical, it is found growing mostly in areas of California and Florida. When a seed from the berry of mistletoe comes in contact with the bark of a host tree, it germinates, sending out fine thread-like roots penetrating the bark anchoring firmly into the living tissue of the host, and absorbing its nutrients. -

The Life Triumphant: Mastering the Heart and Mind by James Allen
The Life Triumphant: Mastering the heart and mind By James Allen Contents 1. Foreword 2. Faith and Courage 3. Manliness, Womanliness and Sincerity 4. Energy and Power 5. Self-Control and Happiness 6. Simplicity and Freedom 7. Eight Thinking and Repose 8. Calmness and Resource 9. Insight and Nobility 10. Man the Master 11. Knowledge and Victory Foreword EVERY BEING LIVES in his own mental world. His joys and sorrows are the creations of his own mind, and are dependent upon the mind for their existence. In the midst of the world, darkened with many sins and sorrows, in which the majority live, there abides another world, lighted up with shining virtues and unpolluted joy, in which the perfect ones live. This world can be found and entered, and the way to it is by self-control and moral excellence. It is the world of the perfect life, and it rightly belongs to man, who is not complete until crowned with perfection. The perfect life is not the faraway, impossible thing that men who are in darkness imagine it to be; it is supremely possible, and very near and real. Man remains a craving, weeping, sinning, repenting creature just so long as he wills to do so by clinging to those weak conditions. But when he wills to shake off his dark dreams and to rise, he arises and achieves. James Allen Hail to Thee, Man divine! the conqueror Of sin and shame and sorrow; no more weak, Wormlike, and groveling art thou; no, nor Wilt thou again bow down to things that weak Scourgings and death upon thee; thou dost rise Triumphant in thy strength; good, pure and wise. -
Christmas Carol Lyrics
1 COMMUNITY CHORUS PROJECT, KIDZU CHILDREN’S MUSEUM & UNIVERSITY PLACE PRESENT A HOLIDAY SING ALONG! Conducted by Caroline Miceli & Accompanied by Scott Schlesinger JINGLE BELLS A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots Is the wish of Barney and Ben; Refrain: Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh Is the hope of Janice and Jen; Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas ev'rywhere you go; Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well, Over fields we go, laughing all the way The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow. Bells on bob tail ring, making spirits bright. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas; What fun it is to ride & sing a sleigh song tonight! (Refrain) Soon the bells will start, And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you A day or two ago I thought I'd take a ride sing right within your heart And soon Miss Fanny Bright was seated by my side; The horse was lean and lank. Misfortune seemed his lot, Santa Claus is Coming to Town We ran into a drifted bank and there we got upsot. -

ALl TO FLOOD TO MARSHALL: THE MOST TRIUMPHANT OF WORDS ALFRED DENNIS MATHEWSON* I am honored to participate in this commentary on the Curt Flood Act of 1998.1 I shall not, however, provide a detailed analysis of its pro- visions. Instead I Will reflect upon my reactions to the Act. To be hon- est, I am disappointed. Negotiated by the Major League owners and the Major League Baseball Players Association through collective bargain- ing and modified by Congress, the Act is certain to become a staple of legislative drafting courses for decades. As others in this commentary may have stated, it is as notable for what it purports to do as for what Congress purports it does not do. The Act confers standing on major league baseball players to sue under the antitrust laws, does not other- wise change the extent to which the business of baseball is exempt from the antitrust laws, whatever it or its source may be, and declines to con- fer such standing on minor league baseball players even though they may have this 'standing' anyway. -
