: on avance toujours, on n’arrive jamais ". -

A gyakorlott vizuális változóészlelők által írott Kézikönyv naprakész tudnivalókat tartalmaz a változócsillagok észlelésének folyamatáról, valamint az elkészült észlelések AAVSO-hoz való eljuttatásáról. Kezdők számára alapvető forrás: olyan kiadvány, melyben a változócsillag-észlelési program elkezdéséhez szükséges minden információ megtalálható. Régóta aktív, gyakorlott megfigyelők, vagy hosszabb kihagyás után újra megfigyeléseket végző amatőrök számára is referenciaként szolgálhat, továbbá segíthet felfrissíteni vagy új ismeretekkel bővíteni a változócsillagokra vonatkozó tudásukat. A Kézikönyv segítségével megismerhetjük a változócsillag-észlelések bevett módszereit és eljárásait. A könyv számos helyen naprakész tudnivalókkal frissített egész tartalmát téma és a összetettség szerint rendeztük fejezetekbe. A könyvben kivehető, alapismereteket tartalmazó lapokat találunk, mely lapokat akár saját észlelőnaplónkban is elhelyezhetjük. 1 Reményeink szerint mind kezdő és gyakorlott észlelőknek, mind karosszék-csillagászoknak a Kézikönyv segít kiterjeszteni a változócsillagok világára vonatkozó -

The COLOUR of CREATION Observing and Astrophotography Targets “At a Glance” Guide
The COLOUR of CREATION observing and astrophotography targets “at a glance” guide. (Naked eye, binoculars, small and “monster” scopes) Dear fellow amateur astronomer. Please note - this is a work in progress – compiled from several sources - and undoubtedly WILL contain inaccuracies. It would therefor be HIGHLY appreciated if readers would be so kind as to forward ANY corrections and/ or additions (as the document is still obviously incomplete) to: [email protected]. The document will be updated/ revised/ expanded* on a regular basis, replacing the existing document on the ASSA Pretoria website, as well as on the website: coloursofcreation.co.za . This is by no means intended to be a complete nor an exhaustive listing, but rather an “at a glance guide” (2nd column), that will hopefully assist in choosing or eliminating certain objects in a specific constellation for further research, to determine suitability for observation or astrophotography. There is NO copy right - download at will. Warm regards. JohanM. *Edition 1: June 2016 (“Pre-Karoo Star Party version”). “To me, one of the wonders and lures of astronomy is observing a galaxy… realizing you are detecting ancient photons, emitted by billions of stars, reduced to a magnitude below naked eye detection…lying at a distance beyond comprehension...” ASSA 100. Z Uma, March 2000 Variable Star of the Month Variable Star of the Month
AAVSO: Z UMa, March 2000 Variable Star Of The Month Variable Star Of The Month March, 2000: Z Ursae Majoris Z UMa Located in the constellation Ursa Major and within the bowl of the big dipper, lies the semiregular variable Z Ursae Majoris. Z UMa captivates the attention of many because it is easy to find in a constellation that is friendly to northern sky observers. Its semiregular periodicity is exciting to follow and results from several different pulsation periods within the star! This variable is perfect for beginning observers to locate and monitor, and it is bright enough to be followed in small telescopes or binoculars. He who would scan the figured skies Their brightest gems to tell Dr. E.S. King, of the Harvard College Observatory, Must first direct his mind's eye north And learn the Bear's stars well. discovered the variable Z Ursae Majoris in 1904 due in large part to its peculiar spectrum. Z UMa's Z UMa is located in the bowl of the big spectrum reveals delta and gamma hydrogen lines in dipper near the star delta UMa. emission and the presence of peculiar molecular absorption bands such as TiO (titanium oxide). Once inspired, Dr. King had the star looked up on photographs in the Harvard collection, and on 22 Draper Memorial plates taken between the years 1897 and 1904. This led him to discover that Z UMa was a variable star with a magnitude range of at least 1.5 magnitudes. The AAVSO historical light curve of Z UMa shows that the mean magnitude range truly varies over time. -
