Jivamukti is Hip: in the eighties, Sharon Gannon & David Life, the founders of the Jivamukti Yoga method, brought Yoga into the most radical underground communities in the East Village of New York. In doing so, they integrated the hidden and mysterious teachings of yoga into the artistic avant-garde, and made Yoga “Hip”, i.e. relevant for people living in a vibrant, creative and forward thinking urban environment. Jivamukti is spiritualized performance art, where poetry, dance, asana and music are coming together with Vedic wisdom teachings, and the audience are its actors. Jivamukti is Hot, because it addresses the most burning issues of our times. The Asana practice generates inner heat that allows practitioners to transform stagnation in the body and melt away old paradigms, habits and conditioned behavior in the mind. Jivamukti is Holy. When we clear physical and mental obstacles out of the way, we have an opportunity to experience what was revealed in the Shrutis (sacred texts of India), which is that essentially, we are made of pure love, pure light, and pure joy. Saturday, November 12 @ 10:00 – 13:00: THE ART OF VINYASA KRAMA, LEVEL 1 We will explore some of the more esoteric concepts that stand behind the Yogic technique of Vinyasa Krama. Starting with some theory and breathing exercises, we will slowly add movement and other components that are essential to this practice. The focus will be on Surya Namaskar and putting together an effective Standing Pose sequence. Sunday, November 13 @ 10:00 - 13:00: THE ART OF VINYASA KRAMA, LEVEL 2 Starting with exercises that ground us in Ujjayi breathing, we will continue with some typical Jivamukti sequences and learn how to execute them properly in strict Vinyasa. The first half of this workshop will include partner work. The second part will be a Vinyasa practice focusing on heart opening backbends. .
