Parents’ and Students’ V a feedback on Online Classes l E u kajal arya x e p Sat 3/27/2021 11:41 PM e b Respected mam, r a i s We , the parents of Shivank Dasgupta , class 4D are delighted to share the feedback for the e e academic year 2020-21. n d t i It had been a difficult year for all of us but had made us learn a lot of good and bad things. a In the starting, no one knew the online classes will run so nicely. We were not l V sure whether online classes will start back in July when govt told to stop the online a classes, but with god's grace things improved and a new direction of imparting knowledge l l came forward. e u a e r Presidency school has done a tremendous job in conducting online classes with full n b passion and commitment. Some of the best things about this year - i a n s 1. The tool used by presidency school 'Teams' showed the professionalism and technical g e d expertise of the school. Lots of my friend whose kids are studying in other schools used to had either recorded classes or 40 mins each class on . The choice of tool used by presidency needs an applaud as it laid the foundation of online classes. Children could do chatting, upload files, view class notes and they were not required to change the class as E V per their time table. The tool rarely hanged. a x l p u 2. Choice of tool is not enough, if teachers are not able to use it properly. Here , teachers of e e presidency school updated themselves with the new technology , made children learn to be r independent, gave time to parents to be comfortable. They have proved that in adverse i b times they can be versatile and flexible too. They really need an applaud for doing a e n a wonderful job in becoming technology experts. s t e i d 3. Timings chosen by the school was very comfortable atleast for me and my kids. Children a can easily get up, take bath , be ready for their class with a heavy brunch. l

V 4. It was a new academic year, all the teachers were unknown to children but the way they l e a made bonding with the children Without meeting children, showed their love and a l affection towards kids. Also , the way they taught concepts esp for maths and science was u r really great. Teachers tried hard to make sure children have learnt and understood the e n concepts by asking varied questions, through quizzes, through presentations and carrying i b on the topic for a long time. Preeta mam had been really innovative in making the quizzes n a also interesting for children by introducing quizziz. It was a wonderful tool which was g s loved by children and they waited for it..it made them feel as if they are playing some e game. d

Parents’ and Students’ V a feedback on Online Classes l E u x e p e b 5. School made sure that children and parents are not pressurized. Enough time was r a i being given to copy notes and syllabus was also covered well before on time with good s e e revisions. Teachers tried to make sure that children should be independent in handling n d online classes so that there is no burden on parents. t i 6. Last but not the least, I would like to appreciate Savita mam. She had been a very a l V affectionate class teacher who always tried her best that her class should be independent a and children should not face any trouble. She used to give personal attention to children l l in break, play riddles in break creating a special bond with children. Her communication e u on phone for all aspects be it tests schedule , or ptm, or update about hw or anything else a e was always well before on time. Lucky to have her as class teacher. Apart from her, all r n b other teachers of 4d - Indira mam, preeta mam, meenakshi mam, Manu sir and nafeesa mam - have been wonderful and a great help to children. They have showered their love , i a n s affection , kindness , values and knowledge to the children. Thankful for having g e associated with such a nice team. d There are no negatives to be shared as it had been a wonderful year , Only I feel, little more concession in fees would have been given since school would have saved on V maintanence, electricity , the helping staff etc. It would be good if those benefits are E a passed on to parents. It would have been a complete package. x l p e u Just to summarize, presidency school did a wonderful job in conducting online classes , e r training their staff and children. In future also ,keeping commutation time in mind, i b something like a mix of three days online classes and two days school set up will be really e a great and I will be the first one to vote for online class   I am lucky to have presidency n s as second home for my child. The way academics is taught in presidency needs a special t e appreciation. Hoping to have this bond longer and longer. A well deserved applaud for i a d the efforts of presidency staff.   l

Parents’ and Students’ V a feedback on Online Classes l E Sanjay Nayak u x e Fri 4/9/2021 4:22 PM p I would like to express my appreciation towards all the teachers of Presidency School e b Bangalore South for the commendable job they are doing with the 'Online Classes'. It r a truly is a new adventure for both the students and their teachers. Avoid social distancing i s and stay home orders, teachers have turned out to be the real superheroes for children. e e n Preparing lessons, imparting the best of learning and at the same time maintaining d t discipline by keeping them engaged with various activities, all this without being i physically present, calls for the highest appreciation. The presentations are well drafted, a and every small point has been covered to ensure that the complete concept is clearly l V understood by children.Initially, during the lockdown, parents were hesitant about online a classes. But now, with the lockdown getting extended and children being out of physical l l e u classrooms, they are realizing that online classes should be held to continue learning, a e however with limited screen time and some flexibility. r n b As a parent, I feel although it is impossible to replace physical classrooms with virtual i a learning, conducting online classes with some flexibility is not a bad idea. Also I have n s g e seen my child go through online classes and I don’t think it can replace offline learning d completely as it is not as interactive as the physical classroom.

However, a bit of online intervention, provided there is a different workable model with V ample breaks and some flexibility is required, to keep learning going. The students of all the sections were called on stage and handed over a lit bamboo by the V teachers as a symbol of passing down knowledge and values from one generation to the next. E a The Principal Ms. J Bhuwaneswari also addressed each class individually telling them about x p l the hardships that they can face in the future and how they should remain tall and flexible e u like a Bamboo. There were melodious songs that accompanied the events. Teachers were e r also asked to alight the stage and were appreciated for their dedication and commitment i b during the last year of pandemic. 213 Effective communication Effective communication Effective communication PSBS Child Centric Child Centric Child Centric THOUGHT POLLUTION: CAUSE OF ALL ILLS V a Being denizens of the twenty first century, in a world which is plagued by environmental l damage and ecological degradation, we are all well acquainted with the word ‘pollution’. Its E u impact is catastrophic and its consequences far-reaching. However, the word “pollution” is x e not only characterized by the tangible aspect of physical pollution but also the pollution of p our mind. The scope for destruction and decay remain the same for both phenomena. e b Thought pollution has the potential to wreak havoc on both our natural environment and r a society at large. i s e e “Thought pollution” is a contemporary phrase which refers to the various negative and n d cynical thoughts that people experience, which can play a pivotal role in shaping their t perceptions of the world and attitude towards life in general. Cynicism paired with i pessimism proves to be a deadly combination which impedes one’s ability to evaluate their a l V circumstances in a logical manner. a This concept can be extended to the whole plethora of social evils that have manifested l l themselves in contemporary society. The whole lot of racism, bigotry, intolerance, prejudice, e u nepotism and the like are a product of human malignancy and can be attributed to people’s a e ignorance and irresponsibility. Thought pollution has made its mark in India through r various channels of negative thinking including the deprivation of education for girls, n b i a domestic violence, female infanticide, prostitution and demand for dowry. This list can be expanded to include child abuse, animal abuse, superstition and religious intolerance. n s g e At the pinnacle of the evolutionary ladder and the ecological system, we as humans have the d immense ability to control and shape the world that we reside in. This monumental ability comes with an innate sense of responsibility associated with it, which we must acknowledge and act in compliance with. Tainted thoughts lead to unreasonable, illogical and even absurd V actions, which prove to be dangerous in the long run as they can lead to misuse of the power E a with which we have been entrusted with to maintain balance and stability in the world. x l p A valid example of the harmful effects of ill thinking is deforestation. Unhealthy infatuation u e e with industrial output has left people blinded to the needs of the planet: the loss of 120,000 r hectares of India’s forested land in the past five years alone is testimony to the need for i b people to act in good faith to preserve the environment. The growing disregard for the e a preservation of the pristine quality of the natural environment has had a major impact on n s the quality of the planet’s natural resources; as a result of environmental degradation due to t e human negligence, numerous species of flora and fauna have had to bear the brunt of the i d damage. a l Another rather stark instance of people’s polluted mindsets is that of mob lynching. Incitement of divisiveness and communal violence that defies all logic and rational thinking V l a is an extreme case wherein the distortion of human thoughts can lead to the creation of very e l dangerous and damaging circumstances. A major domain in which negative thinking has a u percolated into is : rumors and fake news travel at a lightning pace in today’s r e world and feed the ever-growing frenzy of hate crimes in the country. n i It is time that we rise above our petty differences and venture beyond the narrow constructs b n which we have created and placed ourselves in. It is the need of the hour to pay heed to a a g s rational thought process to save the planet from both internal and external threats. The war e against thought pollution is one that must be waged consistently on a long-term basis, but it d is one which can certainly be won.

Well, becoming the world’s richest person is not so easy, he might have i b had so much stress, but the way these talented personalities handled the situation with calmness and n a smart work has revealed the recipe of success. Being calm is the first thing said to anybody when g s they are doing an important job because stress and fear are the two things that make you forget e anything you knew already. V ALTRUISM: Helping others, warming yourself a l -Neistha Mohapatra E u x e Altruism is the unselfish concern for other people. It means doing things simply out of p desire to help, not because you feel obligated to out of duty, loyalty or religious e b reasons. It involves acting out of concern for the well-being of other people. r a i s Altruistic behaviours typically improve the welfare of the recipient at the cost of e e performers resources and energy. In some cases the performers jeopardise their own n t d health and welfare in order to help others. Such behaviours are often performed i unselfishly and without any expectations of any reward. Other instances, known as a reciprocal altruism , involve taking actions to help others with an expectation of a l V reward. a l l Western society is built on the assumption that people are fundamentally e u selfish. Sigmund Freud gave us a psychology of selfishness. Children, he wrote, “are a e completely egoistic; they feel their needs intensely and strive ruthlessly to satisfy r them.” n b i a Classical economics adopts a model that says people are primarily driven by material n s g e self-interest. Political science assumes that people are driven to maximize their power. d But this worldview is clearly wrong as, in real life the push of selfishness is matched with the pull of empathy and altruism. As babies, our neural connections are built by love and care. We have evolved to be really good at cooperation and empathy. We are strongly motivated to teach and help others. As noted by an author in his book V E “Altruism”, if a 18 month baby sees someone drop a thing she will move to pick it up a x l and hand it to him within five seconds. If you reward a baby with a gift for being kind, p u the propensity to help will decrease, in some studies by up to 40 percent. e e r Society's rules, norms, and expectations can also influence whether or not people i b engage in altruistic behaviour. The norm of reciprocity is a social expectation in which e a we feel pressured to help others if they have already done something for you. n s t e While altruism can have some drawbacks when taken to extremes, it is important to i d remember that it is a positive force that can benefit both you and others. Research a suggests that altruism has a wide range of benefits that can help make people happier l and healthier. Some effects of altruism include better health and better mental well l V being. a e l The underlying reasons behind altruism, as well as the question of whether there is a r u truly such a thing known as “pure altruism” is often debated upon by social e n psychologists. Some social psychologists believe that while people do often behave i altruistically for selfish reasons, true altruism is possible. Others have instead b n a suggested that empathy for others is often guided by a desire to help yourself. g s Whatever the reasons behind it, our world would be a much sadder place without e altruism. d

221 Effective communication Effective communication Effective communication PSBS Child Centric Child Centric Child Centric What if..? V a This Corona pandemic brought back a thought, I once had. Let me share that experience l with you all. E u x e A few years back, I went to see a flower show at Lalbagh, with my parents. Seeing a sea of p people jostling to get entry, I chose not to go inside and instead sat down on a stone near a e b flowerbed there. I noticed ants and other insects doing their usual activity silently thereby r a serving their duties towards nature. On the other hand, I saw epitome of noise and material i e s pollution all around. People were enjoying savories and throwing the plates and cups all e n d around without thinking twice. t Just then, a thought struck me, what if humans just disappeared from this globe at the flick i a of my finger. My mind got filled with infinite possibilities…. l V First, there will be chaos, due to massive accidents simultaneously across the globe. a l Vehicles will crash into one another and fly around like in Rohit Shetty films. Trains will l e u crash into each other or crash into the terminal station(s). Airplanes will keep flying till the a e fuel finishes, and then will crash. Machines in factories will keep on running until fuel lasts. r n b All the pet birds and animals will be in deep trouble (animals in homes and zoo) because i a nobody will be there to take care of them. Sadly, most of them confined within enclosures n s will have very little chance to escape and survive. g e d With no one around to pollute the water sources, even major drains (nallas) will turn into small rivulets with clean water. Probably it will need a couple of heavy rainfalls to clean away the muck. Rivers will break the dams and start flowing with all their vigor. V With encouragement from water sources, naturally resilient plants like grass, wild creepers, E x a and shrubs will start expanding their territory covering to the tarred roads, walls, houses l p u and even tallest buildings. Imagine “Prestige Pinnacle” near Meenakshi Mall, fully draped e e in greenery. r i Happiest of all will be animals living in the jungle. They will no more be confined within b e a human defined forest boundaries. Animals will slowly dwell in cities. n s t Imagine monkeys and birds living in flats of high rises. Lions and tigers making gated e i d residential communities as their dens and living in harmony with nature. Elephants taking a bath in Madiwala Lake. l

V I am confident that animals will develop skills necessary to use these human created l a structures as their homes. e l a u Just then, my parents came back from the flower show and we left Lal Bagh. Even after r e leaving Lal Bagh, one thought that didn’t leave me is - n i n b Nature is very much capable to revive or balance itself. It very well knows which notorious a g link it needs to remove to restore itself. We better mend our ways. s e - By Devanshi Sharma – 4A d

223 Effective communication Effective communication Effective communication PSBS Child Centric Child Centric Child Centric Thought pollution - cause of all ills V “Quench the fire a l Of your unappeasable desire, E u x Beautifully, if you think e p The world shall change in a .” e b r a i s As kids we would form a picture of the wondrous lands our grannies would take us to, through e e her bedtime fairytales and would dream to be apart of the sparkling, lively world she introduced n d us to! t As we grew up, we observed our thoughts being drastically altered. The heavenly dreamland got i replaced by the real world we live in and our thoughts became the machinery by which we made a vital life decisions, the thing through which we tried interpreting what the world wanted l V from us and what we craved to receive from it. a l l Our thoughts are shaped by what we endure and also what we already have undergone and as we e u all have our own battles to fight, our thinking may not be in common with other beings. Wise a e king Solomon said “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” We talk about the way mankind has r degraded and consequently how heinous actions of human beings have not only impacted the n b environment but also threatened their own integrity. But it is our thoughts which are turned into i a actions and accordingly the initial step to bring a change should be to bring a change in our n s minds. g e d Celebrated poet Robert Lee Frost in his poem “Fire and Ice”, where fire and ice represent feelings like desire and hatred respectively; expressed how overwhelmingly powerful our emotions can be and how they can lead to self – destruction. All the complications the world has, be it corruption, terrorism, inequality; are outcomes of thoughts. V E a No one is born with sentiments which are detrimental or benevolent to people around them; it is x l inculcated in us by our parents and individuals who we choose to surround ourselves with. p u e e Let’s talk about the patriarchal form of society India finds itself in. Did it take place over night? r Certainly not. It happened because our forefathers had sown its seeds and had compelled i b generations to fit in the confined gender roles they wanted them to fit in. These roles to be e a specific were domestic for women and professional for men. After all what they believed, felt and n s thought was what influenced what they did. Today’s youngsters who are too reluctant to adhere t e to the mainstream now find themselves struggling to convince people that their gender should i d not restrict them from leading a life of their own choice. a l In the competitive and cut – throat world of today, where people are set to elbow each other out, V it is quite usual to find people have a sense of inferiority, resentment, anxiety, unhealthy l a competitiveness and what not. In no time do these thoughts start overpowering our morals and e l diverge us from the path of righteousness. a u r e Rhonda Byrne in her book ‘The Secret’ speaks about gratitude which aids in riding away all the n negative thoughts that run through our minds. Be grateful for the tiniest bit that you have for i b someone else might have been yearning to have it. Imbibe qualities like acceptance, benevolence, n a empathy, honesty and unleash the magic. Embrace your flaws and be passionate about things g s that truly matter. For it is as much important to stay healthy mentally as physically. Keep up that e smile to travel miles! d
