Byli by- chom dnes schopni identifikovat arbitra západního sekulárního humanismu? Až dodnes jsme za něj nenalezli plnohodnotnou náhradu. Inspirativnost a působivost lingvistické antropologie v pojetí profesora Zdeňka Salzmanna vyplývá právě ze sepětí s touto starou, nyní takřka zapomenutou tradicí. prof. RNDr. Ivo Budil, Ph.D., DSc. Abstract The main purpose of the article is to describe the racial interpretation of European history proposed by an eminent British scholar John Pinkerton (1758–1826) in his book A Disserta- tion on the Origin and Progress of the Scythians or Goths (1787). The hypothesis suggested by John Pinkerton will be evaluated in a broader historical, intellectual and cultural context and its relationship to traditional Scytho-Celtic paradigm and indology of Royal Asiatic So- ciety will be analyzed. Author argued that we could derive some fundamental similarities between Pinkerton's thesis and Aryan ideology penetrating Western political culture in the second half of nineteenth century. The fact could indicate that Western mentality used to be in a certain sense preadapted at the threshold of modernity for expansion of a new “myth of foundation” in the guise of racial aggressive narrative. John Pinkerton (1758–1826) as scholar has been widely neglected in the debates con- cerning the emergence of modern racial thinking including the Aryan imagination.2 In his excellent survey of the intellectual development of British collective identities prior 2) For instance, the name of John Pinkerton is missing in the classic narrative on the roots of Western racial ideology written by Léon Poliakov (1996, first edition 1971). She acknowledges her dependence on divine grace, and receives God’s blessing in return. In her lap rests the hat of freedom, representing freedom of the conscience, while she tramples the papal regalia. The Institute’s PhD programme and the coaching and supervision of the Institute’s PhD candidates served as the central theme of this day. Following up on the recommendations of an internal committee a substantial number of improvements were agreed upon. Later that year preparations commenced regarding the assessment of the Institute’s research. These preparations focused on the writing of the Institute’s self-evaluation report. Other advancements were made in the field of diversity. Energized by the Institute’s Diversity Think Tank initiatives were taken to more effectively and transparently accommodate and include staff in the Institute’s research and teaching community. In terms of research funding and scientific publications the Institute could look back on a successful year.
