A return to form.By Gunta007This is my first book review, so please bear with me.I have been a fan of Matthew Reilly's books for a long while and enjoyed them thoroughly, whilst still being able to acknowledge their shortcomings. I was dissappointed with 5 Greatest Warriors, and to a lesser extent with 6 Sacred Stones, as I believed they were becoming a little too "over the top". I know, this is Matthew Reilly I'm talking about, but these ones should almost have been comic books rather than fiction books. I was somewhat concerned that this new book may have suffered from a similar fate, but fortunately this hasn't been the case. The return of Scarecrow I feel has been a return to form for Matthew Reilly. The same formula is present, go-to-woe action adventure with over the top stunts and set-pieces. Bad villains and good heroes. It's not Shakespeare, but it's not supposed to be. The character development of the leads is a welcome addition, exploring some of Scarecrow's past, as well as how he has gotten over the events of previous books.Overall this book is a easy prospect to review. If you enjoy his books, particularly those from the Scarecrow series, you will enjoy this. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Scarecrow or (probably more due to my current frame of mind than anything, maybe also since I read it on Kindle and I'm not sure if this alters the experience of reading), but it is definitely a fun cover-to-cover read. If you didn't like his previous books then move along, nothing to see here.If you are new to Matthew Reilly then this isn't the place to start. Get "" out, it is a great book and not at all out-of-date. Non-stop action is a signature of his books, and they are hard to put down, so if you have some spare time for some a good read they are definitely recommended.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Another Great Ride!By Ian J. Hayes This is the latest in Matthew Reilley's series about the character Scarecrow. Fans of the series know already that when Mr Riley writes a book, you want to clear your calendar for the day and stockpile lots of fast food - because fast is the very essence of these books. The action scenes are extraordinarily imaginative and fast-paced, and there is little time wasted on dialogue. What character development exists is usually measured in bullets spent or explosions rendered. These books typically read like a pinball machine going crazy at full speed. If somebody tried to make a movie of these books, people would say "no way they can do that stunt!". This latest finds Scarecrow and team on a supposedly restive routine mission shepherding some research geeks, the easy mission as a respite from previous arduous adventures. However, Fate drops a World-ending situation at their feet, and they have to respond in true Scarecrow fashion - fast, lots of destruction, narrow escapes, and unbelievably imaginative scenarios. I strongly urge readers to start with the first books and work forward to the latest in order to fully understand the background story of Scarecrow and his associates. Each of the books is a thrill-ride just like the last. You will not regret the purchase. For additional non-stop action of a more archeological kind, check out Mr Reilley's amazing series featuring Jack West, Jr , starting with "Seven Deadly Wonders". I cannot say enough good things about these books. Get them now!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Fan-fricken-tastic!By bookwormFast-paced, thrilling, bloody, violent, exciting, these are just to start! I find myself holding my breath when I enter Matthew Reilly' s world. Technical, well yeah, but easily visualized. Love that he includes maps and diagrams. Undying and loyal friendships, no one gets left behind, ever. The dialogue is quick and witty. I often wonder if these scenarios are possible and those crazy weather phenomenon or "accidents" are just that or perhaps events more sinister and covered up...hmmm.McGyver ingenuity mixed with Indiana Jones endurance and tenacity, and John McLane' s heart and patriotism. Bertie was a wonderful addition to the story and I truly hope to see him again.Do I recommend this book? Absolutely! But be ready....prepare to be amazed, freaked out and entertained. As Bette Davis would say, "it's going to be a bumpy ride".

The action-packed new thriller from Sunday Times best seller Matthew Reilly. This time the world's on fire! At an abandoned Soviet base in the Arctic, a battle to save all life on Earth is about to begin.... When Dragon Island, a top- secret base that houses a weapon of terrible destructive force, is seized by a brutal terrorist force calling itself the Army of Thieves, the fate of the world suddenly hangs in the balance. But there are no crack units close enough to get to Dragon in time to stop the army setting off the weapon. Except, that is, for a small equipment-testing team up in the Arctic led by a marine captain named Schofield, call sign Scarecrow...
