COLLEGE OF VETERINARY SCIENCE Rajendranagar, HYDERABAD – 500 030 (College Main Building shifted from old 1964 building in 2010 to present place) College of Veterinary Science (CVSc), Rajendranagar is one of the oldest colleges in India established on 5 August, 1946 as Hyderabad Veterinary College in Nizamian Era. It was a constituent College of erstwhile Osmania University with a primary objective to impart and promote Quality Veterinary Education in princely state of Hyderabad. In 1954, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi permitted this College to train students from other states to award BVSc & AH degree. During this period quite a number of teachers were deputed for training at Kansas State University (USA) during 1957 under USAID program. The college was transferred to the fold of Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU) on 10 July, 1964 and later in 1968 it was shifted to Rajendranagar. APAU was later christened as Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) in 1996. Subsequently with the establishment of separate Veterinary University i.e., Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) at Tirupati in 2005, the College was brought under its control. Since formation of Telangana State, the Govt. of Telangana established a Veterinary University in November, 2014 naming it after former Prime Minister of India Honorable, Sri. Late P.V. Narsimha Rao as ‘P.V.Narsimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University (PVNRTVU). CVSc, Hyderabad is the biggest and populous institute of this University. ASSOCIATE DEAN : Dr. PRAMOD KUMAR DAMARAJU 1. Dr. D. Pramod Kumar, Professor & Univ. Head, Vety. Anatomy was appointed as Regular Associate Dean in 2019. He took charge on the A.N. of 31/10/2019. 2. Dr.D. Pramod Kumar is an Alumni of this College, graduated B.V.Sc & A.H in 1989 and M.V.Sc (Vet. Anat) in 1992. 3. He earned his Ph.D in 2003 from C.V.Sc & A.H., Anand (Milk Bowl of India) of Gujarat Agricultural University. 4. He joined Univ. service in 1993 in CVSc, Tirupati. Besides, teaching & Research Guidance, he has executed all additional duties like NSS Off, Addl. Warden, Warden, OSA, UG and PG Academic in-charges etc. 5. He worked in colleges of Tirupati, Hyderabad and Korutla. 6. He is recipient of Telangana State BEST TEACHER Award in 2017 7. He organized a 31st Annual National Symposium in Hyd in Dec, 2016. Degree program and Post Graduate M.V.Sc. and Ph.D programs in many departments. Clinical training is imparted UG and PG students in Hospitals of Veterinary Clinical Complex (VCC) located in the main campus, at New Boiguda and one Rural Hospital located at Mylardevpally. In addition the college is attached with a dedicated (T) R & V regiment of NCC, NSS and other Extra and Co-curricular activities such as Sports, Games, and Cultural and Literary activities meant for overall development of the students. Teaching staff engaged not only in teaching but also in research guidance and extension activities. At present, there are 400 UG and 60 PG/PhD students on rolls. The College has so far rolled out more than 3500 graduates, 1000 post graduates and 100 doctorates. Dr. S. Vinaya Sheela Assistant Professor. 3. Dr. S.Ranjith Kumar,Assistant Professor. The Department started offering Master’s programme from the year 1969 itself. About 50 and 25 students have been awarded M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees respectively from this Department. The Department has excellent laboratory and a huge collection of specimens which is of immense use to the students. 2. Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry. Faculty 1. Dr. B. Swathi, Professor and University Head. The Department was established in the year 1946 and functioned along with Dept. of Pharmacology till 1964 and started offering M.V.Sc. from the year 1968 and Ph.D. from the year 1983. So far, about 12 M.V.Sc. and 4 Ph.D. students have rolled out. Department of Veterinary Biochemistry Faculty: Dr. A. Jayasri, Assistant professor Department of Biochemistry has excellent laboratory facilities. It has HPLC, Column Chromatography unit, Freeze dryer, Blood analyzer etc. Besides imparting education at UG and PG level, it also trains in laboratory diagnosis of different diseases of livestock. Department of Veterinary biochemistry was established in the year 1992. The department has excellent laboratory facilities like semi automatic blood analyzer, spectrophotometer, column chromatography unit, freeze dryer and gel electrophoresis unit. M. V. Sc. program was started in the year 2002. Sixteen M. V. Sc students passed out till date and among them, eleven students were selected as Assistant professors. Besides extending technical support to institutes like Nehru Zoological park and other private farms it also trains in laboratory diagnosis of different diseases of livestock. Research Projects completed 1. Team of Excellence on Feed Technology and Quality Assurance. 2. Application of yeast culture and expanded extruder technologies for improved utilization of Agro industrial biproduction for economical milk and meat production, APNL- Biotech, 2004. 3. Feed Technology and Quality assurance of animal feeds, Team of Excellence, 2006. 4. Comparative efficacy of herbal products supplementation in improving growth, performance & carcass quality in broilers, Ayurvet Ltd., 2017. 5. Evaluation of efficacy of combination of herbal uterine cleanser & restorative, ovarian estrus inducer & mineral supplement & other products in treatment of anestrus & repeat breeding in buffaloes, Ayurvet Ltd., 2017. 6. Evaluation of efficacy of polyherbal uterine cleanser & restorative (Exapar) & other products in treatment of retained placenta cases in bovine, Ayurvet Ltd., 2017. 7. Efficacy of Probiotic on induced diarrhea in dogs, Unique Biotech Ltd., 2018. Faculty involved in training of PG students about handling of semi automatic Serum? analyzer. 3. Dr. K.Vanitha Sree, Assistant Professor. 5. Dr. B. Rajendar, Assistant Professor. This Department was established in the year 1973. It offers P.G. and Ph.D. programs. The Department has excellent laboratory facilities and the faculty are engaged in high quality research with the collaboration of private sector. 4. Department of Veterinary Parasitology. Faculty 1. Dr.M. Uday Kumar, Professor and University Head. 2. Dr.B. Dasma Bai, Asst. Professor. 3. Dr. S. Ramesh Bhoomaiah , Asst. Professor . This Department started offering Master’s program in the year 1984. Besides academic training, the Department provides technical services to various institutes such as Nehru Zoological Park, Indian Police Academy, Hyderabad Race Club, Indian Immunologicals, National institute of Animal Biotechnology, Centre for cellular and molecular biology and Private Livestock farms etc. This Department has state of the art laboratory with immunodiagnostic and molecular facilities to conduct the studies on Parasitic diseases of livestock and zoonotic pathogens. The Department has developed immune diagnostic test– IFAT for Toxoplasmosis in backyard poultry and Dot ELISA test for Schistosomosis in bovines and Oesophagostomosis in sheep. Research Projects completed 1. Immunodiagnosis of Toxoplasmosis in backyard poultry of Andra Pradesh (State Plan, 16.2 Lakhs, 2007-08). 5. Department of Veterinary Microbiology. Faculty: 1. Dr. M. Srinivas, Assistant Professor and Univ. Head The Department of Veterinary Microbiology has been a part of Hyderabad Veterinary College, Osmania University that was established in 1946. Postgraduate program was initiated in the year 1982. Besides academics, this department undertakes diagnosis of diseases by investigating the samples from across the state. The Department also provides technical services to various institutes such as Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad Race Club, Indian Immunologicals, Private farms, etc. The Department has excellent laboratory facilities and has completed many National and International Research Projects. Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is the
