Supply List Mixed Media Drawing and Painting Instructor: Chery Baird 770-448-5000 - please call if you have any questions e-mail: [email protected] (only check about once a week) We will be creating 6 to 10 drawings over the first four weeks and creating 3 to 6 paintings over the next four weeks, with a critique the last week of the quarter. There will be a minimal, bare bones still life provided; however you are encouraged to bring one large object a week to join the still life. The drawing supplies will also be used in the paintings. For each section there are necessaries and the optionals. You don't have to purchase everything at once since you will have time in between sessions. One of the advantages of one session a week is the drying time in between sessions. Your work will for the most part be wet every night going home so you'll want a plastic sheet in your trunk to lay your work on. Though I've listed many different surfaces to draw or paint on I recommend using all the same surface for the minimum number (6 drawings and 3 paintings.) If you plan to create "extras" you may experiment to your heart's content. You may work on your drawings and paintings outside of class and there will be some homework. Please call me if you have any questions about the supplies or the format of the class. DRAWING PAPERS: Each kind of paper will accept or resist the various mediums in different ways. Each sheet needs to be at least 14 x 17 (you may work larger if you wish), you may tape off borders before coming to class. If you tape off you need to use drafting tape or tape for extrememly delicate surfaces. 3m 2070 is no longer available locally, you might try the internet. It is the best tape for the drawings. Stonehedge (comes in a variety of white, cream & tans) - comes in 22x30 sheets (you can tear this into smaller sheets) or in a pad (only white) - it is an asorbent paper. Strathmore Wet Media - comes in a pad - you'll need to cut off the perforated edge. Disegno Drawing - Accademia by Fabriano Raffine Art Sketch - all media sketch book made by lana for creative mark - you'll need to cut off the perforated edge. Cartiera Magnani - Annigoni - Disegno - Very asorbent paper, oatmeal colored. Aquarius II by Strathmore - Very absorbent paper. Strathmore Bristol Vellum - Slightly creamy. Revised 8/4/11 Page 1 of 5 Mixed Media Drawing and Painting Chery Baird You may use any other drawing paper that you find also - it needs to be at least 90lb - thin enough for rubbings - heavy enough so it doesn't ripple too much with water media - a cream color or light tan will let the lights show a little easier. Besides Binder's and Utrecht - online you can find asw (art supply warehouse), daniel smith or cheap joe's (call and ask for their catalogs). DRAWING SUPPLIES: Drawings will be basically done with neutrals, the most important things to think about when purchasing supplies are value (light and dark), temperature (warm and cool) and water-resistant and water soluble. ***The following drawing mediums in black, brown, rust, tan, taupe, raw sienna, gray & white ONLY (you do not have to have every color in every medium, you want a variety, black & white would be the most important) ****You do not have to have every item listed but you will want things from each major category.
