C Tony Wolters played the second game of his rehab assignment since being placed on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion … he went 0--for-4 at the plate with an RBI. INF Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 with three runs… in eight games with the Isotopes, is batting .267 (7-for-30) with two home runs, two RBI, five walks, four strikeouts and two stolen bases. Hartford (35-25) allowed the Mets to get an early lead and scored in the eighth but came up short losing 1-8. RHP Zach Jemiola pitched 4.1 innings allowing eight runs on 10 hits with no walks, two strikeouts and two home runs. SS Pat Valaika went 1-for-4 and hit his eighth home run of the season to score the only Yard Goat run … he is batting .333 (11-for- 33) over his last 10 games with three home runs, five RBI, five walks and eight strikeouts. Modesto (23-38) scored 10 runs on 11 hits to win their second game in the four-game series against the Giants, 10-5. RHP Ryan Castellani pitched seven innings allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with two walks and five strikeouts. CF Wes Rogers went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI … he is batting .251 (55-for-219) on the season. 3B Shane Hoelscher went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run, his seventh of the season … is now batting .285 (53-for-186) with 13 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 30 RBI on the season. Asheville (30-31) was shutout by Charleston, falling to the RiverDogs 3-0. RHP Jesus Tinoco made his first start for the Asheville Tourists and took the loss after pitching 6.1 innings allowing two runs on seven hits with two walks, one strikeout and one home run. Boise opens their season June 17 at Eugene … the club finished the 2015 season with a 30-46 record.     Healthy Air program moving into the valley Alerts abandoned in favor of taking charge By KEN CARLSON Modesto Bee, Saturday, July 5, 2008 On summer days when smog shrouded the Northern San Joaquin Valley, air quality officials released "Spare the Air" alerts to urge individuals and businesses to take measures to reduce the pollution. Spare the Air is no more. It has been replaced by the Healthy Air Living program in the eight- county San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District. Instead of just reacting to bad air days, the new program urges people to do things year-round to clean the air. The program kicks off Sunday with Healthy Air Living Week in the San Joaquin Valley air basin, with activities planned from Stockton to Bakersfield to showcase what people can do to reduce air pollution. The district is sponsoring the Modesto Nuts game Sunday night at John Thurman Field. The main event in Modesto will be a bicycle commute on McHenry Avenue between 7 and 9 a.m. Wednesday. People riding their bikes to work can first gather at the Fun Sport Bikes store in McHenry Village shopping center for refreshments and to enter a drawing. They will then ride downtown on McHenry with a police escort. Also Wednesday, a conference will be held at the University of California at Merced, focusing on the development of electric cars, fuel cells and other clean energy technology. Air district officials say they nixed Spare the Air because the program focused on one-day pollution episodes and didn't produce the permanent changes in behavior needed to improve air quality.
