Information on Volunteer Opportunities with Partner Organisations September 2021 Teams Life Centre Children’s worker volunteer role Teams Life Centre is the new name for the old Teams Community Centre which is based on Askew Road West in Gateshead. The centre operates entirely by dedicated volunteers even the manager! TLC run regular events throughout the week from high-energy workouts with skinnypigs, through to Dog Training classes and BabyBloom with more being added regularly. Our “New2You” Community Charity Shop is a valued asset to our centre, allowing you to purchase previously loved clothes, books, CD’s, DVD’s, toys and bric-a-brac at very reasonable prices. TLC are relaunching the pre-school activities post covid19. This part time volunteer post includes: • Assisting the centre manager in delivering 2x1 hour sessions for pre- schoolers • Set up / set down of the activity area including sanitising the area and the toys that are played with. • Interacting with the children and the guardians/parents present • Providing refreshments at the end of the session. The following skills would be desirable for this volunteer role: • Experience in working in pre-school children • Happy and friendly approach • Previous volunteering • Desire to help others and get involved in the local community This volunteer role while enable individuals to benefit from a fulfilling experience and discount on the food and drink available on site. All training will be provided prior to any volunteering. September 2021 This is a part time volunteer role which is available on a Monday and Wednesday from 9:00am – 11:00am. TLC is reopening after Covid19 and requires a maintenance volunteer which is a part time role. The activities within this role include: • DIY tasks throughout the centre • Tidying around the building and a small amount of gardening • Set up / set down of various rooms before and after hirers No qualification is needs or knowledge of the area. Benefits of volunteering in this role include FREE gym membership and discount on the food and drink from the centre. Volunteers will be provided with full training in health and safety, COSHH Training and safeguarding. This is a part time volunteer role and it can be discussed amongst the volunteer and Centre what times and days are more suitable. This is a flexible role. If you are interested in this volunteer role please email: [email protected] September 2021 Independent Age Community Volunteer As a Community Volunteer you will support and work with an older person to help them achieve their desired goals. We want to ensure that more people can live a happy, connected and purposeful later life and this role is pivotal in helping us do that. When a person is referred into the service they will work with us to identify what they would like to achieve. You will then meet up with and provide support to the person for about 6-9 months to enable them to achieve these goals. This is likely to be once a week but is flexible. What you’ll actually be doing when you meet up is dependent on the goals of the older person but could include getting out and about, assisting with shopping, attending different activities or enabling the person to feel more confident using technology. Possible list of activities includes: • Providing companionship, encouragement and ideas to help people establish new friendships and enjoy new experiences • Working alongside Independent Age employees and other volunteers to support people to achieve their goals • Meeting for a coffee in a café • Travelling with/driving someone to appointments • Accompanying someone to a social group • Support with IT/Technology • Supporting someone to go shopping • Going out for walks • Supporting someone to become more active September 2021 Volunteers should have the following skills: • Good communication skills • Ability to handle personal date sensitively and confidentially • Happy to work as apart of a team either in person or remotely • Basic IT skills/any IT requisites This volunteer role is flexible and be arrange on days and times that best suit the volunteer and the individual that they are supporting, however the project requests at least 1 hour volunteering on a weekly basis if possible. We have many services to support members of our local community including childcare services, family support services and most recently the expansion of our Thrift Store! We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to help make our shop a success! All profits made from the store will be put back into the community to help children and families in our local area. We are looking for people who have a passion for their local community and would love to help us achieve these goals as well as gain some great work experience! We currently have a small team but are excited for this to expand as the shop builds in popularity. We are looking for people to help with: • Sorting and organising donations. • Greeting customers and explaining what we do. • Pricing and tidying clothing as well as bric-a-brac. • Customer service and cash handling. No experience is necessary as all training and support will be given. We only ask for a regular commitment, willingness to learn and to enjoy working within diverse and motivated team. We are currently open Monday- Friday 9.30-4.30. We have varying available shift patterns to work and are located at ‘The Cumbric’ 107 Coatsworth Road, Bensham. If you are interested in this volunteer role please email: [email protected] September 2021 Age UK Gateshead Minibus driver This volunteer role involves assisting in the successful delivery of the Day Opportunities provision. Please note, as a driver you will be reporting for duty at House on the Hill, Sunderland Road, NE10 9LR at 8:30am. By all means you can leave the premises as long as you return for 2:15pm to drive the client’s home. This volunteer role is for a volunteer to drive Age UK Gateshead’s accessible minibus in a responsible and competent manner, ensuring the safety and comfort of the passengers. This volunteer role involves the following: • Using your own methods of transport to get to the designated location to collect the bus. Carrying out and recording daily checks/log of the vehicle using the driving record log book supplied and reporting any vehicle defects and faults immediately. • Being aware of fuel levels and occasionally refuelling the vehicle (cost covered by Age UK Gateshead). • Working within Age UK Gateshead’s Health and Safety guidelines. • With help from the passenger assistant it is essential that client safety is priority at all times during the journey and also when boarding and alighting the bus. The minibus driver and passenger assistant will need to ensure that portable steps are correctly positioned to prevent injury and ensure the correct usage of tail lifts and ramps. Client seat belts are to be secure and all handrails are in the correct position. • Ensuring the correct safety precautions with the passenger assistant whilst using and storing passenger wheelchairs. • Being responsible for the safety and comfort of passengers by adhering to road safety i.e. traffic calmers and speeding restrictions. • Adhering to your own personal safety i.e. wearing a seatbelt and a high visibility jacket supplied by Age UK Gateshead. • Ensuring the contents of the first aid boxes are correct and if not to report to a member of staff for replenishment. • Reporting any form of accident to a member of staff immediately and completing all details in the first aid book provided. A staff member must always be notified upon any incidents or accidents affecting passenger safety whilst on duty. September 2021 • Ensuring the vehicle is in a clean condition (inside and out) before and after use. • Setting off to collect the day centre clients at 9.00am prompt and ready to commence the return journey at 3pm. • Ensuring all clients are returned to their address and are left safely in their homes. • Informing Age UK Gateshead immediately of any changes in your health that affect your driving licence or ability to drive. • Informing Age UK Gateshead immediately of any licence endorsements. Your role will also require you to: • Be self-motivated and sensitive to the needs and wishes of your passengers. • To undertake necessary training. • To participate fully in the running of the Day Centre or social activity ie chatting with the clients, assist in serving refreshments and lunches, and initiate activities such as board games, dominos, etc. The skills required for this role are: • Reliability, commitment and trust worthiness • The ability to work on own and as part of a team • Interested in developing activities for older people • A reasonable level of fitness • Good communication skills, including a sound understanding of both spoken and written English.
