I remember running around the dining room table which seemed to tower above me, beneath me was a hideous tartan-style carpet and I was trying to escape from the clutches of my parents who were taking me for my first day at school. Times haven’t really changed when it comes to having to go to school! What is your favourite food? If we are staying in then I always enjoy a Sunday roast; my wife makes great roast potatoes. If we are going out or it’s take away then a curry every time. Has to be fairly spicy though. When you were 16 what plans did you have for a career? I originally wanted to be a social worker and in my gap year I worked with young offenders. I soon realised that you needed a lot more patience than I have in order to work in that profession. Who’s your favourite actor/actress? I’m more of a fan of directors than actors as they seem to be the ones with the vision. Too many to mention but if I had to pick a few I would go for Murnau’s Sunrise which is so cinematic, Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner which is full of ideas on what it means to be human, and most films by Danny Boyle who for me is one of the best British directors working today. -

Years 3 and 4 Sports day I warmly invite all parents of pupils in Years 3 and 4 to their Sports Day next Thursday 21st May commencing at 1.30 – 3.45pm at the Prep School. Please park at the Senior School at walk across to the Prep School for this occasion. Swimming Success On Saturday we had some outstanding results at the National IAPS swimming finals at the K2 leisure centre in Crawley. Bromsgrove Prep were represented by three teams in five relay races. The U13 and U12 girls in both the medley and the freestyle relay, where we came 3rd in both U13 races, 4th and 5th in the U12 relays and the U10 girls in the freestyle relay achieved 2nd place overall.. Many congratulations to everyone who participated and special congraultions to the following swimmers who all qualified through their heats to the final top eight swimmers in the Country and achieved the following placings: Jemima Vaughan-Hawkins was 8th in 25m butterfly, Alice Oliver 7th in 50m backstroke, Elizabeth Aston 7th in 50m breaststroke, Grace Dieppe 7th in 25m butterfly and Ruby Hanke 5th in 50m freestyle. -

It’s designed to provide news about OBs, young and old, and information about achievements and upcoming events. We have chosen, as our logo, the martlet, which is the small bird on the School crest. The document is structured into chapters for each of the 6 blocks, namely: A Communities that are safe and feel safe (Chapter 3) B A better environment – for today and tomorrow (Chapter 4) C Economic success that is shared by all (Chapter 5) D Improving health and well being (Chapter 6) E Meeting the needs of children and young people (Chapter 7) F Stronger Communities (Chapter 8) Each of these chapters follows a similar format. - Firstly, an introduction setting out details of the outcomes defined for that block within the LAA, together with the evidence to be considered. - Analysis of each of the evidence sets listed in the introduction to the chapter. - A summary of key issues arising from the analysis of the evidence. Oct. 2021 Introduction Aims and rationale According to the Oxford Encyclopaedia of Children’s Literature (on-line edition, 2006), the term ‘school story’ refers to a distinct literary genre in which ‘school is not just a backdrop but rather is the raison d’être of the novel’. It is a genre with a long pedigree. The first text of its kind is generally held to be Sarah Fielding’s The Governess; or, Little Female Academy (1749), a book which was very favourably received and which provided a model for a significant number of the children’s stories produced during the century following its publication. Sue Sims and Hilary Clare (2000) have identified over thirty such books for girls which appeared between 1749 and 1857, while Robert Kirkpatrick (2006) estimates that over a hundred stories set in boys’ schools were written during the same period. -
