HHS in the KNOW Weekly Bulletin HHS IN THE KNOW Weekly Bulletin Week of October 7, 2019 FOR PARENTS: PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES: All parents are invited to join us for Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, October 16, from 4:30 to 8:30 pm in the Main Gym. Please mark your calendars and plan to spend a few minutes with each of your students’ teachers. PARENTS - WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK: In association with Colorado Safe Schools Month, we are inviting you to share your opinions about the culture and climate at Heritage High School through the Comprehensive School Climate Inventory Survey. The survey window begins on Friday, October 4, and ends on Thursday, October 31. We will collect feedback from students (grades 3-12), staff, and parents about school environments all across the district. We believe that gathering feedback about school climate helps guide our efforts to provide supportive learning environments for all students, and you play an important role in this process. If you have children at multiple schools, you can choose to complete a survey for each school or choose the school where you would most like to share your voice. If you have more than one child at the same school, you only need to complete one survey. Click this link to the parent survey: http://www.schoolclimate.net/?l=e&t=p&v=44302&c=1194178. PTO NEWS: “Fall" into these fun, upcoming events: ● The next PTO meeting is Wednesday, October 10, at 10 am in the Community Room. Please join us! ● Run or walk the Littleton Stride! This 5K, 10K, kids fun run, and wellness expo takes place on Sunday, October 27, at the Littleton Museum (6028 South Gallup Street). Click this link to register and for additional event details. ● The Rockies are done for the season, and the Broncos are not exactly off to a strong start, so let's watch hockey! Gather your family and friends for LPS Night at the Colorado Avalanche take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, November 9, at 7 pm. Click here for tickets. Let's go, Avs! Heritage parents are a huge part of our amazing school community. Please consider helping with the following: ● Teacher/Staff Appreciation is coming up, and we need your help! Please show your support of our wonderful teachers by volunteering as a helper for the staff dinner before conferences on Wednesday, October 16, or to provide drinks and desserts. Sign-up is easy (click on the underlined links) and greatly appreciated! ● Did you know that one of the services that the PTO provides HHS is feeding 8th graders on Shadow Days? We are very fortunate this year to partner with Jet's Pizza to make this happen. The PTO covers 7 Shadow Days with at least 60 kids in attendance each day. Shadow Days are so popular and generate so much goodwill for Heritage! Your donations allow us to do this. As such, please consider supporting this and other valuable activities via this link. We appreciate your kind support! _______________________________________________________________________ FOR STUDENTS: ATTENTION OPEN ENROLLED STUDENTS: All open enrolled students (both in-district and non-resident) must submit an Intent to Renew form by Friday, January 10 if you would like to continue at Heritage next year. Tickets are now on sale at http://heritagehightheatre.com/buy-tickets OR at the door for cash/check only. All seats are general admission. Synopsis: In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees. As the case goes on, however, Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation, but with her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire. Written with warmth and humor, Radium Girls is a fast-moving, highly theatrical ensemble piece for 9 to 10 actors, who play more than 30 parts—friends, co-workers, lovers, relatives, attorneys, scientists, consumer advocates, and myriad interested bystanders. Called a "powerful" and "engrossing" drama by critics, Radium Girls offers a wry, unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science. But in recent years it has become increasingly apparent that, while taking the right number of courses is certainly better than not, it is no longer enough to guarantee that students will graduate ready for life after high school.
