Amtrak Fact Sheet, Fiscal Year 2015 State of Missouri Amtrak-Missouri partnership Grants from the State of Missouri support two daily round trips between St. Louis and Kansas City, the Missouri River Runners Missouri is one of three Midwestern states that jointly have received a federal grant for a new fleet of new corridor trains Nearly 64,000 Missouri residents are members of the Amtrak Guest Rewards frequent user program Amtrak Service & Ridership Amtrak operates the state-supported Missouri River Runner service, two daily round-trip trains between St. Louis and Kansas City. Daily St. Louis-Chicago service is proved by the Texas Eagle and Lincoln Service, which is supported by the State of Illinois. Amtrak also operates two National Network trains through Missouri: The Southwest Chief (daily Chicago-Kansas City-Los Angeles) The Texas Eagle (daily Chicago-St. Louis-Dallas-San Antonio with tri-weekly connecting service to/from Los Angeles via the Sunset Limited) During FY15 Amtrak served the following Missouri locations: City Boardings + Alightings Hermann 22,377 Independence 8,766 Jefferson City 43,720 Kansas City 153,770 Kirkwood 58,375 La Plata 11,676 Lee’s Summit 28,831 Poplar Bluff 5,447 Sedalia 10,986 St. Louis 323,150 Amtrak Government Affairs: November 2015 Warrensburg 15,656 Washington 15,875 Total Missouri Station Usage: 698,629 (down 5.3% from FY14) Procurement/Contracts Amtrak spent $50,908,958 on goods and services in Missouri in FY15, including at: City Amount Grain Valley $ 40,599,439 St. Joseph $ 1,772,486 St. Louis $ 5,131,714 Employment At the end of FY15, Amtrak employed 82 Missouri residents. Total wages of Amtrak employees living in Missouri were $6,926,387 during FY15. PRIIA Section 209 and State-Supported Services The Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008 (P.L. 110-432) required, by October 2013, an equitable arrangement of cost sharing between Amtrak and state or public agency partners that provide funding for short-distance, intercity train services. Agreements were reached with all parties, including Missouri, by the deadline, and the services continued to run, confirming the importance of this service to the state and its residents. Amtrak operates two daily trains between St. Louis and Kansas City, the Missouri River Runners, under contract, for the State of Missouri. Ridership on the Missouri River Runner trains reached 199,471 in FY13, 1.8% higher than FY12. Amtrak worked with the several Midwest state partners, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin, to bring complimentary AmtrakConnect Wi-Fi service to customers on all short-distance corridors in those states, in 2014. Kansas City-St. Louis improvements Missouri’s success at securing Federal grant funds to complement the state’s resources represents the continuation of a multi-year trend dating back to 2008. In 2012, Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) was awarded a $22.6-million High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Program grant to construct a second bridge over the Osage River in Central Missouri, eliminating one of the most problematic rail bottlenecks in the Midwest. The remainder of the $28 million cost was covered by the Union Pacific Railroad, which owns the route. The second track allows for better performance of Missouri River Runner trains which use the route. The project was completed in late 2013. 2 Station Improvements Arcadia Valley: Amtrak is working with local officials to return passenger rail service to the Acadia- Ironton area along the route of the Texas Eagle. The community has secured funding for the construction of a new boarding platform and anticipates service beginning in mid-2016. Hermann: Local officials held a ribbon-cutting for a new station on September 12, 2014. The depot was funded through various sources, including the Federal Highway Administration (Transportation Enhancements program), the City, and the Dierberg Educational Foundation, a local, non-profit organization supporting projects to preserve the region’s cultural heritage. 3 AMTRAK ROUTES IN MISSOURI TO C HIC AG O Westboro C learmont Mercer Lancaster S cotland Watson G rant C ity P owersville
