EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Location Laterite building stone site of Thiruvaniyoor Village- T.B.Kurian Kunnathunad Taluk, Ernakulam Dist. Site is well connected through Thiruvaniyooy- Sasthamughal road, Project site is about 6 Km from Thrippunithura Railway Station. General Details Total Land area is 0.2999 Ha.which will be used for Laterite building stone excavation. The subject land is Private Land and does not belong to government or reserved for any other purpose. The subject area is away from public properties and there is no objection of the public or any litigation. Manufacturing & Production Details Production Production Capacity Laterite building stone 26241.25 MT Raw Materials This is an Laterite building stone excavation project. Excavated Laterite building stone in Ernakulam. No other raw material will be required for proposed Laterite building stone excavation project. The Laterite used for construction of buildings etc. Pollution Control Measures The major sources of pollution in proposed Laterite excavation activity will be Particulate Matter (Fugitive emission) generated due to excavation of Laterite. The surrounding of project area is agricultural in nature with good greenery all around. This will minimize the fugitive emissions. However, during dry season, excavation operation will be carried out after water sprinkling to avoid generation of fugitive dust emissions. Solid Waste Management No solid wastes will be generated due to proposed Laterite building stone Excavation operation. Project Cost Total cost of ordinary earth excavation project is approx. Rs. 2,00,000/- 2. PROJECT DETAILS INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT/BACKGROUND INFORMATION (1) Identification of Project Location of the Project: Laterite building stone Excavation site of Thiruvaniyoor Village- Thiruvaniyoor site is located near Thiruvaniyoor - Sasthamughal road in Thiruvaniyoor Village, Kunnathunad Taluk, Ernakulam Dist. It is about 13 km away from District Headquarter Ernakulam. Site is well connected through Thiruvaniyoor - Sasthamughal road which connects district headquarters at Ernakulam. Project site is about 6 Km from Thrippunithura Railway Station. Brief description of nature of project Excavated Laterite building stone will be utilized for row material for building (2.) Laterite building is commonly used Building construction etc. (3.) Demand Supply Gap: There is large demand of Laterite building stone for building construction. Excavated Laterite building stone will be utilized for row material for building Imports vs. Indigenous Production: There will be no import for the project. There will be indigenous inputs in the entire mining activity. (4.) Export Possibility: It is low category material and to be procured from local market. No export is feasible. (5.) Domestic/Export Market: There is large demand of Laterite building stone building construction, Excavated Laterite building stone will be utilized for row material for building Employment Generation (Direct & Indirect) In the proposed excavation project, 6-10 people will be hired for Laterite building stone proposed earth Excavation area. 3. Project Description: (1.) Type of project including interlinked and inter dependent project: This is a Laterite building stone excavation project Excavated Laterite building stone will be utilized for raw material for building . Location: Sy.No.364/1 Village : Thiruvaniyoor Taluk : Kunnathunad District : Ernakulam (2.) Details of alternate sites Considered and the basis of selecting the proposed site, particularly the environment consideration gone into should be highlighted The land of project site is under lease agreement with land owners. (land papers enclosed) No alternate site has been considered for the proposed laterite excavation activity. Excavation of laterite will be done from excavation area of 0.2999 Ha. Excavated Laterite building stone will be transported through Tipper Lorry covered with tarpaulin sheets. In this way, fugitive emissions caused due to transportation, loading & unloading of laterite from far places are minimized. (3.) Size or magnitude of operation: Laterite building stone excavation will be done in 0.2999 Ha. of land. It is planned to excavate 26241.25 MT proposed laterite excavation area. (4.) Project description with process details: (a schematic diagram/flowchart layout, components of the project) In the proposed laterite excavation project, semi mechanized excavation of ordinary laterite building stone will be done. Excavation activities will be carried out through excavators. (5.) Raw Material required along with estimated Quantity, likely source, marketing area of final products, mode of Transport of raw material & finished product. No raw materials are required for the proposed laterite building stone excavation project: (6.) Resources optimization/recycling and reuse envisaged in the project, if any, should be briefly outlined. No recycling and reuse envisaged in the proposed earth excavation project. (7.) Availability of Water its source, Energy/Power requirement and source should be given In the proposed earth excavation project approx. 0.5 KLD water will be required for dustt suppression Water will be sourced through tankers. (8.) Quantity of waste to be generated (Liquid and solid) and scheme for their management. i. No effluent will be generated due to proposed laterite building stone Excavation unit as the water will be used for domestic purposes only. ii. The major sources of pollution in proposed laterite excavation activity will be Particulate Matter (Fugitive emission) generated due to excavation of laterite & emissions of SO2 & NO2 due to operation of Jcb. It is about 13 km away from District Headquarter Ernakulam. Site is well connected through Thiruvaniyoor - Piravam road which connects district headquarters at Ernakulam. Project site is about 6 Km from Thrippunithura Railway Station. 2. Land Form, Land use & Land ownership: Within 10 Km. Area Sensitive targets are safe away There is no forest area Nearest Railway Station Thrippunithura There is no biosphere reserve at 6Km. Distance There is no national park There is no wildlife sanctuary 3. Topography (along with map) The site is almost flat at Project site, no hills in the surroundings Height elevation 31.2m Lowest elevation 27.7m. 4. Existing land use pattern (Agriculture, non agriculture, forest, water bodies including CRZ), shortest distance from the periphery of the project forest, national park, wild life sanctuary, eco- sensitivity area, water bodies Distance from HFL line, CRZ notification for notified industrial area. At present land is fully grown rubber woods and there is any other activities are being carried out within the project area. 5. Existing Infrastructure There are no existing infrastructures on the project site. 6. Soil Classification Laterite is a soil and rock type rich in iron and aluminium , and is commonly considered to have formed in hot and wet tropical areas . Nearly all laterites are of rusty – red coloration, because of hgh iron oxide content . They develop by intensive and long – lasting weathering of the underlying parent rock. Tropical weathering is a prolonged process of chemical weathering which producesa wide variety in the thickness , grade , chemistry and ore mineralogy of the resulting soils. The majority of the land area containing laterites is between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn Schools (Primary as well as secondary) Health centers & hospitals Electricity Banks Post Office Veterinary centers All these facilities are available within 5 Km. of proposed ordinary laterite building stone excavation area. 5. Planning Brief 1. Planning concept (type of Industries, facilities, transportation etc) Town and country planning/Development authority classification. Type of Industry : As per Schedule of EIA Notification 2006 and amendments thereafter proposed Earth Excavation Project comes under Mining of Minerals at Sl. No. 1(a). As per & Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India Office Memorandum No. L-11011/47/2011-IA.II(M) dt: 24th Jun.’2013, proposed excavation activity
