GOVERNMENT OF KERALA Abstract Higher Education Department- Additional Skill Acquisition Programme - Santcion to start the Programme in selected Higher Seconary Schools and Government Colleges and accorded -orders issued HIGHER EDUCATION (C) DEPARTMENT G.O. (Ms.) No: 538/2012/H.Edn Dated, Thiruvananthapuram, 01.11.2012 Read:-1)GO(Ms)No:271/2012/HEdn Dated 7-7-2012 2)GO(Rt)No:2179/2012/HEdn Dated 10-10-2012 ORDER As per GO read above Government have acorded in principle approval for the Preliminary Project Report of the State Skill Development Project. An Empowered Committee headed by the Chief Secretary,with administrative and financial powers within the approved Preliminary Project Report was also constituted to implement the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme. Based on the decisions of this Empowered Committee following activities have been completed. 2) Curriculum for training the students has been developed for the Level -One of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme and it consists of the following: All the students have to undergo 100 hours of Communicative English Module which is prepared by the Curriculam Committee created for this purpose and vetted by experts from industry. Students also have to undergo 80 hours of training in Information Technolgy which is also prepared by the respective Curriculam Committee and vetted by experts from industry. Building on the foundation module of Communicative English and Information Technology, the sector wise skill will be imparted through the industry associations/institutes/approved skill providers. So far, Government have entered Memorandum of Understanding with National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) and Association of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICAI) to impart training on their Global Business Foundation Skills and Certified Accounting Technicians courses respectively. New sectors will be added as soon as Government enters into MoU with respective skill providers. 3) The Programme Mangers for the proper management of the programme have been selected from the vocational Teachers of Government VHSE. They were selected through two levels of process which include testing their presentation with an interview to assess their apptitude and IT proficiency. They have also undergone a Transformational Training Programme at Indian Institute of Management , Kozhikode. After the successful completion of this training, these vocational teachers were posted on working arrangement from their parent department in respective educational institutions. 4) Skill Development Executives to impart training on Communicative English and Information Technology were selected through the NAC test of NASSCOM and business interviews in which experts from industry also participated. The selected Skill Development Executives were also given Transformational Training Programme by the faculties selected from industry at Thiruvananthapuram. 5) The institutions where the ASAP programme is to be launched are the Higher Secondary Schools selected by the Honourable MLAs from the Higher Secondary Schools from their respective constituncies and also Government Colleges. Based on the availability of Programme Managers and the Skill Development Executies, the first phase of the training programme will be started from 6th November 2012. As a prelude to this, Honourable Minister for Education convened a meeting of MLAs and Office bearers of Teachers Organisation both in Colleges and Schools and presented the project. All of them have welcomed the project and have extended all support to the project. The Honourable MLAs have also offered to provide list of interested and competent professionals from their constituencies to be considered for the position as Skill Development Executives based on their performance in the NAC test and aptitude tests. 6) Instructions have been issued to all Programme Managers for ensuring infrastructure in the institution and student selection audit. They were also asked to give wide publicity for the project in the locality and among students,teachers and parent community as well. The first phase of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme will be launched on 6th November 2012.     Workshop Report on “Connecting dots on Public Transport” at Infopark, Kochi Report prepared by Centre for Public Policy Research on Public Transport in association with the World Trade Centre, Kochi, Kerala Workshop Report on “Connecting dots on Public Transport” at Infopark, Kochi Introduction The Infopark campus at Kakkanad is the IT hub of the city of Kochi. Kakkanad once was a peri-urban area characterised by low-density residential regions. With the establishment of Infopark, the town underwent rapid transformation in a decade. The status of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) accorded to the export industrial zone in Kakkanad attracted a large number of industries, resulting in the area transforming into a high-density industrial and economic centre. Today, the workforce of Infopark is around 30,000 and the number is rising day by day. The initiation of Smart City and the second phase of Infopark will only amplify the commercial activities in Kakkanad. When the growth of a town is rapid and unplanned, it needs to be supplemented with adequate infrastructure facilities. In the case of Kakkanad, the primary requirement is to provide better connectivity with other major cities and towns. The transportation issues faced by the employees of Infopark show the flaws in the transportation infrastructure here. Most of the employees of Infopark depend on private vehicles, which results in traffic congestion and increase in the number of accidents near the campus. The issues of on-street parking and lack of parking space inside the campus also add to the difficulties of the commuters. An ideal solution to the poor traffic scenario is increasing the share of public transport in Kakkanad.

General Details Total Land area is 0.2999 Ha.which will be used for Laterite building stone excavation. The subject land is Private Land and does not belong to government or reserved for any other purpose. The subject area is away from public properties and there is no objection of the public or any litigation. Manufacturing & Production Details Production Production Capacity Laterite building stone 26241.25 MT Raw Materials This is an Laterite building stone excavation project. Excavated Laterite building stone in Ernakulam. No other raw material will be required for proposed Laterite building stone excavation project. The Laterite used for construction of buildings etc. Pollution Control Measures The major sources of pollution in proposed Laterite excavation activity will be Particulate Matter (Fugitive emission) generated due to excavation of Laterite. The surrounding of project area is agricultural in nature with good greenery all around. This will minimize the fugitive emissions. However, during dry season, excavation operation will be carried out after water sprinkling to avoid generation of fugitive dust emissions.
