Helpline number 0845 367 9990 *** *** *** *** *** The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I) RABI is a grant-making charity which helps farming people of all ages if they are in financial difficulty. Support is confidential and includes one-off or regular payments, funding for things like essential household items, disability equipment, relief farm staff, home-help and care costs. Last year R.A.B.I. spent over £26,000 helping 23 cases in Herefordshire for those who fell on hard times through no fault of their own. HFYFC are working with the Herefordshire Grassland Society, Herefordshire NFU and the Wye & Usk Foundation to bring you an exciting new competition! It will be launched with a farm walk where competitors can see examples of excellent grass utilisation and pick up tips from local advisors who are experts in the various aspects of good grassland management. Competitors will then write a report to show how they would utilise grassland management skills to develop a fictional farm which is struggling to make a profit due to increasing input costs and reducing sales prices. It has been over 15 years since the very first NTS Certificate in Sustainable Agriculture was developed in Australia and seminars have been held around the world. Lunch provided. Simon Draper, Maize Grower Association agronomist will be discussing soil husbandry and the new Dairyco/Eblex soil toolkit. Clare Greener, NFU, will be discussing CAP-reform. 12th November - Come and visit the CSF Herefordshire Cover crop demo site. Brockhampton Village Hall. HR1 4SE, 9.30am – 1pm. 10ha of various cover crop mixtures, 40 plots, using a number of different cultivation techniques. Includes visit to the demonstration plots at Fawley Court, by kind permission of JPF Clay. 19 th November - NVZ workshop run by Environment Agency and CSF - for landowners living in and around Huntley; This event will be followed by a Nutrient Management Planning workshop later in the year. Hosted by Mark Wood of JPF Clay Farms, this meeting will give growers the opportunity to discuss and review: Harvest 2014 // Cost of production // Benchmarking your business // 2015 crop establishment HGCA Monitor Farms are normal commercial farms, representative of enterprises and conditions in their area, where the host farmer is prepared to allow neighbouring farms access to the farm and to their decision-making process. The Programme is a proven and effective method of knowledge transfer with a farmer-led, farmer-centred and farmer- driven agenda.
