PRESSEMITTEILUNG 20.12.2017 Monster Magnet Im Mai In
FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH Große Elbstr. 277 a ∙ 22767 Hamburg Tel. Und was soll man sagen? Er hat keineswegs gelogen. Die neue Platte ist ein Schritt nach vorne und gleichzeitig einer zurück. Zurück in die wilden Hardrock- Zeiten des Proto-Punk, als die Aufsplitterung in Genres noch in weiter Ferne lag und alles gut war, was hart und laut war. Gleichzeitig wird hier jeder süchtige Stoner-Fan und Sludge-Adept glücklich gemacht. Oder um Wyndorf selbst sprechen zu lassen: „,Mindfucker‘ is a fuzzed out, headbangin’ celebration of hard rock and 21st century paranoia. Ten fuel injected, nitro burning tracks of fiery Rock’n’Roll and Garage psych madness, all done Monster Magnet style. The world is out of it’s fucking mind and I’m livin’ it. It’s simple, really. In these crazy times I’ve been wanting to just drive my car at 100 miles per hour and howl, you know what I mean? So I wrote songs I can do that with. And with lyrics that don’t deny the times we’re living in. Feels good, feels right. Rock is alive, baby!“ Seit bald 30 Jahren gehören Monster Magnet zu den wichtigsten und einflussreichsten Bands in den Bereichen schnell, hart und laut. Ihre Konzerte sind wie ein Trip, eine Mischung aus Heavy Metal, psychedelischen Anfällen, purem Punk, Krautrock, schwerem Space Rock, bluesigen Harmonien, unglaublichen Gitarren und seltsamen Texten. -

Some are love poems, some are hate poems. But I guess that love and hate are the basis of life, Aren't they? (My motto for life is 'There is no God, he is a figment of our imagination. Subjectivity in American Popular Metal: Contemporary Gothic, the Body, the Grotesque, and the Child
CORE Metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk Provided by Glasgow Theses Service Subjectivity In American Popular Metal: Contemporary Gothic, The Body, The Grotesque, and The Child. Sara Ann Thomas MA (Hons) Submitted in fulfilment for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Faculty of Arts University of Glasgow January 2009 © Sara Thomas 2009 Abstract This thesis examines the subject in Popular American Metal music and culture during the period 1994-2004, concentrating on key artists of the period: Korn, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Tura Satana and My Ruin. Starting from the premise that the subject is consistently portrayed as being at a time of crisis, the thesis draws on textual analysis as an under appreciated approach to popular music, supplemented by theories of stardom in order to examine subjectivity. The study is situated in the context of the growing area of the contemporary gothic, and produces a model of subjectivity specific to this period: the contemporary gothic subject. This model is then used throughout to explore recurrent themes and richly symbolic elements of the music and culture: the body, pain and violence, the grotesque and the monstrous, and the figure of the child, representing a usage of the contemporary gothic that has not previously been attempted. Attention is also paid throughout to the specific late capitalist American cultural context in which the work of these artists is situated, and gives attention to the contradictions inherent in a musical form which is couched in commodity culture but which is highly invested in notions of the ‘Alternative’. In the first chapter I propose the model of the contemporary gothic subject for application to the work of Popular Metal artists of the period, drawing on established theories of the contemporary gothic and Michel Foucault’s theory of confession. -
22Nd Annual Unsung Heroines Award Luncheon
22nd Annual Unsung Heroines Award Luncheon The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter conceived the Unsung Heroine Awards Gala in 1997 as an opportunity to recognize African-American women. The awards are presented to women in our community who work tirelessly to empower their community in the vital areas of education, health, public policy, civic responsibility, business and entertainment. These women toil relentlessly without recognition. The women honored are nominated by their peers and voted on by an independent panel. Annually, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter recognizes women who, through their desire to make a difference, perform selfless acts of kindness. We have honored some incredible women who have provided clothing for the homeless, operated programs to help educate children, mentored special needs children, triumphed as political activists to improve conditions in their neighborhoods and performed myriad of other thankless tasks to serve the communities in which they live. The women who are selected are honored at our Annual Unsung Heroines Awards Ceremony. Unsung Heroines is a major fundraiser for the Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter. Proceeds from the event will benefit the organization’s Economic Empowerment Program that provides transitional support services to women and children who need a helping hand as they move from dependency to self-sufficiency. ABOUT EMPOWERING WOMEN: SISTERS HELPING SISTERS The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter (NCBW-MAC) is committed to empowering women in ways that lead to better health and economic opportunities. Through our work we know that women who are healthy and financially independent tend to be less vulnerable to abuse and exploitation in general. -
