GNU is located Jinju City, which is near the southern coast of South Korea. It takes around one and half hour from Pusan (Gimhae) airport by bus and five hours from airport. For more details regarding locations and how to get to GNU, please visit below website.

Ⅱ. Student Exchange Program Application

The application should be consulted and processed between designated staff members at home and Application host institutions, not on an individual basis. Undergraduate students and Graduate students can get an Procedure official admission only after being reviewed and approved by the department or laboratory of their chosen fields at GNU.

Application All other application documents and materials should be submitted and managed through the Requirements International Office of the home university of exchange students. As we send application forms

from A~D to your home university’s International Office, please contact with the person in charge in your university to get the forms.

All Application requirements mentioned above should be submitted no later than first Friday of June for fall semester application, and first Friday of December for next academic year’s spring semester to below address.

While it is highly recommended candidates to have fluent language skills either in Korean or English, Language it is not mandatory. However, as most of courses are being taught in Korean (around 80%), and Requirement English (Around 20%), please make sure that those who are not fluent in both in Korean and English may experiences difficulties in catching the lectures.

Ⅲ. Department (Major), Course Selection and Registration

We strongly advise you to apply same or similar major or department at GNU with your home Department university. All the college, department(major), and course information can be found at (Major) http://eng.gnu.ac.kr/sub/02_03.jsp. After choosing department (major), please state the selected Selection department(major) in the application form.

While we recommend exchange students to take courses among their own departments’ curriculum, however, exchange students are normally free to take any courses in any departments.

Exchange students should take more than 10 credits at minimum and 17 or 18 credits at maximum per semester depending on each department’s credit policy. At GNU, 1 credit consists of 15 hours of a course for 15 weeks during semester. Course So, if you are taking 15 credits in total, that means you will study 15 hours per week, 225 hours per Selection semester (15 weeks).

If you are fluent in Korea language, you may take any courses whatever you want. However, if you are not fluent in Korean, we normally recommend the students to take Korean language 1, 2, 3 (3 credits each, liberal arts course), and one or two courses taught in English in your department or other similar department.

As most of course at GNU is being taught in Korean and applicants who haven’t got any basic knowledge in Korea language can be denied from their chosen departments or courses.

Some departments in college of education may also restrict exchange students admission. Especially, Restricted graduate students’ admission will be decided by their applied departments’ professors. Dept. and Courses So, for those who hasn’t got sufficient Korean language skills and postgraduates, it is highly recommended to contact us in advance to check about possibility of your admission before applying.

If your admission is denied from preferred dept., our office will help you to be accepted into other similar major or courses.

1 credit consists of 15 hours of a course for 15 weeks during semester. (If a course is three-credit one, GNU offers a total of 45 teaching hours for 15 weeks.)

Ⅴ. Arrival Information

GNU provides free airport pickup service for new-coming students who arrives at either Pusan Airport (Gimhae) international airport or Jinju(Sacheon) domestic airport. However, if you arrive at Incheon Pick-up airport, we can't provide it and you should come to GNU on your own.

Ⅵ. Living Costs

GNU dormitory can accommodate 3,250 students (1,650 males and 1,600 females) in 10 buildings. Not to mention that staying in dormitory is safer and cheaper than living in off-campus, it supplies quality meals and is well equipped with various support facilities such as cinema room, student lounge, fitness center and self study rooms so on.

It is obligation for all international students to live in GNU dormitory for their first semester. In second semester, student may decide whether he/she will stay in dormitory or stay in outside. Ⅶ. Exchange Student Support Program The GNU Buddy program encourages interaction between international and domestic students on a one-to-one basis. International students are matched with GNU students. ISA The ISA was established on June 30, 2010 as a non-profit organization for the promotion of (International fellowship and cooperation among GNU international students. ISA organizes various special events Students for international students such as International Students day, Sports days and field trips. Cultural GNU organizes various cultural experience programs and special events for international students Experience throughout the year. All of these programs and events will be provided free of charge. It is good Programs and opportunity not only to experience Korean culture, also to have meaningful memory studying in Special Events Korea.

Ⅷ. Other Information

Visa We will send the letter of Admission and Certificate of Eligibility for your visa application. The Requirement exchange student should go to the Korean Embassy or Consulate at your home country with them.

As Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology(MEST) enforces all international students to purchase health and medical insurance during study period and medical expenses in Korea can be extraordinary expensive in some cases, it is an obligation for all exchange and dual degree students to Insurance obtain adequate health and accident insurance at GNU. We will assist you to buy this insurance upon your arrival and it will cost approximately US $70 for one semester and US $ 140 for one academic year.
