I am a graduate of Hull University and heard about your ward boundary review from fellow Hull alumni – so thought I would send you my feedback!

I used to live on off Newland Avenue. At the moment it is in Newland Ward but is proposed to be part of a new “Wyke” ward in your review.

As a former student in the area and former Newland Avenue resident, I agree with this proposal. That whole area around the university is part of the same community and should be in one ward.

With best wishes,

Alex Davies

Dear Sir or Madam,

RE: The proposed ward boundaries for Kingston Upon Hull

I currently live in the proposed Avenue ward, prior to that I lived in the proposed (Desmond Avenue) Beverley and ward.

I am writing to you today in support of the published proposals for Avenue ward and Beverley and Sculcoates ward.

I believe that the proposed wards offer the best possible solution available to the Commission and the Council.

For the proposed Beverley and Sculcoates ward I would like to highlight some reasons for my support. According to your own numbers there is good electoral equality in the ward.

The boundaries, in particular Beverley Road and the , are clear and recognised by all the communities in the area. In Hull people often say they are from east or west of the river. Beverley Road forms an effective community boundary almost all the way from the city centre to the northern boundary of the city.

The same buses run the full length of the proposed Beverley & Sculcoates ward, such as, the 1C, then 1D/E. The bus goes around the Compass Road and Fountain Road estates which are both in the proposed ward.

I would therefore urge you to not make any changes to the proposed Beverley and Sculcoates ward in your final plans.

I also support the Commission’s proposal for Avenue ward. The Avenues has a strong sense of community and it is reflected in the conservation area, the Avenues and Pearson Park Resident Association and events like the Open Gardens event and the Vista Festival held on Princes Avenue every two years. Most children in the area go to Thorsby Primary School, which is in the proposed ward.

It is important that both Pearson Park and the ‘Hymers School Triangle’ remain in the ward. They both have strong community ties with the Avenues area and it would be a shame to see them cut off.

1 Once again, your numbers show that Avenue ward would be balanced electorally with other wards in the City.

In summary, please ensure that Avenue ward and Beverley and Sculcoates ward remain unaltered in the final plans as both wards have good electoral equality, make sense for community, have clear boundaries and would ensure good governance.

With best wishes, Emma Dolman

Dear Review Officer,

I am a graduate of Hull University and a friend in Hull has forwarded me the link to your boundary review. I graduated a few years ago and now work in Westminster but I keep a healthy interest in local politics in the city having been actively involved there when I was a student.

Over my time in Hull I lived in the following streets:-

 Brooklyn Street HU5 1NB  Suffolk Street HU5 1PJ  Beresford Avenue HU6 7LR

All three of these are proposed to be part of “Beverley and Sculcoates” ward under your new boundaries.

I wanted to let you know my support for this. It’s a very coherent ward up and down Beverley Road with good bus and cycle links throughout. It makes sense to include the Newland Avenue area with Wyke ward as this has a very different feel to it to the streets off Beverley Road, which are much more residential and have a growing Eastern European population at the southern end. The streets between Temple Street and Norfolk Street that come off Beverley Road (e.g. Somerscales Street, Harley Street etc) are very similar in character to roads like Melwood Grove, Adderbury Grove etc further up, so the inclusion of this area makes sense.

In summary – I agree with your proposals for Beverley and Sculcoates and Wyke wards.

Best wishes

Paul Edgeworth

Proposals for Newington & St Andrews As someone born and raised on Rd I have objections to dividing the community at Boulevard. This is the traditional heart of the Hessle Rd community which stretches from to what is now Rawling Way. The primary school choices for the street where I was born were either Chiltern St or Constable St which would now be in different wards this makes no sense. Beverley & Sculcoates This appears to combine areas which have nothing in common and totally different communities which seems t odds with your stated objectives Also the reluctance to crossing the river does not reflect the mobility of the community with many constituents crossing the river in the north of the city for work and leisure especially to Kingswood.
