District profile

Future plans
We are continuing to plan for the future transport requirements of residents in the Far North District.
In 2014-15 we plan to:
• commence planning for the future duplication of the Bruce Highway between Gordonvale and Edmonton
• develop a strategy to seal Peninsula Developmental Road from Laura to Weipa
• complete planning and preliminary design activities for the Smithfield Bypass
• conduct a Household Travel Survey and Visitor Travel Survey to enable the Cairns Transport Model to be updated to produce more robust results.
