Place is where the mind is (1982)

Sfeerbeeld van het leven in en rond het underground kunstenaarsinitiatief “Club Moral”, een ve- reniging die zich gedurende zeven jaar in Borgerhout zou toespitsen op extreme kunstuitingen. De film bestaat vooral uit portretten van mensen in en rond de club.

An atmospherical typecast of the life in and around the artist initiative “Club Moral”, an asso- ciation that focused in Borgerhout on extreme forms of art for about seven years. The movie is based on portraits of people in and around the club.

Une Légende Dorée (2008)

Er is het boek “Les Rideaux et le Décor de la Fenêtre” dat ik in 2005 in Rome kocht en dat werd uitgegeven in Parijs in 1968. Er was het plan om meetkundige hoeken die gemaakt werden door vrouwen in hun interieur, met hun meubels, te linken aan ideale meetkundige figuren zoals de “Gulden Snede”. Er was de drang om deze twee componenten te gebruiken om een zachte con- nectie te maken tussen een erotische aanwezigheid van kleuren en gedempte technieken zoals conté en pastel, om te werken in een algemeen mijmerende atmosfeer, terwijl ik exacte weten- schap vermeng met Frans activisme in het boudoir. Om me dan naar het mystieke te keren, tenslotte bij het libertijnse terecht te komen en het abstracte te weerleggen. Ik werkte van maart tot juni 2008 aan deze serie van 10 tekeningen. Gemaakt op pastelpapier dat ik kocht in Parijs, waren ze speciaal bestemd voor mijn tentoonstelling “ Nothing More Natural” in Kunstcentrum Wiels in Brussel.

There is this book “Les Rideaux et le Décor de la Fenêtre” that I bought in 2005 in Rome, printed in 1968 in Paris. There was this plan to link angles made by women in their interior, with the furniture, to ideal mathematical figures as the “Golden Rectangle”. There was this urge to use these two components to create a smooth connection between an erotic presence of colors and mute techniques as pastel and conté and to work in a general feeling of contemplation, to mix science with French activism in the boudoir. To turn than towards the mystic, to end finally with the libertine and counter the abstract. I worked from march until june 2008 on this series of 10 drawings. Made on colored pastelpaper bought in Paris, I drew them for my show “ Nothing More Natural” in Wiels.

REG (2010-2011)

“Regal” is een Parijs’ naakttijdschrift uit 1953. Ik selecteerde een aantal dubbele bladzijden en veranderde die digitaal in een actuele mix van droomfantasiën, verwarring, tegenwoordigheid en psychose. De vertekende beelden werden elk in twee aparte beelden gesplitst die op de beide zijden van een Plexiglasplaat werden gedrukt. Een spiegel die op 2-3 cm achter de halfdoorschijnende plaat werd geplaatst weerkaatst de ontdubbelde beelden en de handgeschilderde vlakken op de achterkant van de plaat. Weerspiegeling, inzicht en dubbelzicht veranderen de zichzelf cor- rigerende visuele informatie in betekenisvolle wanorde en niet-rechtlijnige picturale ontspanning.

“Regal” is a Parisian nude magazine of 1953. I selected a number of type pages of the periodical and transformed them into an actual mix of dreamfantasies, confusion, reality and psychosis. The transformed images were each split in two sections, printed on both sides of a Plexiglass plate. A mirror placed 2-3 cm behind the half-transparent Plexiplate reflects the split image and the handpainted zones at the backside of the plate. Reflection, insight and double-sight trans- form the information brownout into meaningfull disorder and non-linear pictural entertainment. Overhandig dat Geweer (Hand over that Gun) (2008)

Lust en dood, vertwijfeling en ontwapening. Een manier om gevonden beelden tegen elkaar uit te spelen. Aan de ene kant een foto van een schutter in burger, jaren 40, het geweer op de horizontlijn, gericht op de kader van de foto. Aan de andere kant vrouwen met ontblote borsten in vrijpostige houding, jaren ‘60. Verdubbeling, vereenvoudiging, neutraliseren, confronteren, situeren. De soundtrack herleidt de confrontatie tot een positieve abstractie.

Lust and death, perplexity and disarmament. A way to juxtapose found images against each oth- er. On the one hand a photograph of a hunter in civil clothes, 1940s, the gun at the horizon line, aimed at the frame of the photograph. On the other hand women with bare breasts in impertinent attitudes, 1960s. Doubling, simplification, neutralisation, confronting, situating. The soundtrack reduces the confrontation to a positive abstraction.

12 X 2005 (2006)

Deze 4 lichtwerken maken deel uit van een serie van 12 beelden die ik in 2005 op mijn computer maakte. Die beelden werden uiteindeljk lichtbakken, elk 75 cm breed en verschillend van hoogte. Ze zijn een vervolg op de serie werken die ik “19 Filosofische Kamers” noemde. De beelden van 12 x 2005 hebben allemaal specifiek te maken met wat ik in 2005 zelf meemaakte of leerde kennen.

These 4 lightworks belong to a series of 12 images that I made in 2005. In the end they all be- came lightboxes, each of them 75 cm wide, with varying heigth. They are the continuation of the series “19 philosophical rooms”. The images of 12 x 2005 have a specific relation with what I experienced and got to know in 2005.
