    Page 1 of 2 IOWA ENGINEERING SOCIETY Central Iowa Chapter SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION The Iowa Engineering Society’s Central Iowa Chapter offers a scholarship to graduating high school seniors interested in pursuing an engineering degree. IES Chapter scholarships are primarily directed to qualified students with the talent and commitment to succeed in an undergraduate engineering curriculum, for which the financial support and encouragement can make a difference. The scholarships are awarded only to U.S. citizens who are residents of Iowa and who will be attending the College of Engineering at either Iowa State University or the University of Iowa. The scholarships are awarded during the recipient’s senior year in high school, but the money is not distributed until the recipient has satisfactorily completed the first semester at either Iowa State University or the University of Iowa’s College of Engineering. The amount of the scholarship is $500 or $1000. As Funds are available, additional scholarships may be awarded. The Central Iowa Chapter also gives special scholarship consideration to children or grandchildren of Iowa Engineering Society, Central Iowa Chapter members.     Iowa Youth Congress Member Bios Central Region Aaron Martin (he/him/his) - Aaron Martin is a junior enrolled in Ankeny Centennial High School. This is his first year in Iowa Youth Congress, and he is extremely excited to voice his opinion more. To him, speaking your voice is the most important thing a person can do, and one has to do it as often as possible. Aaron is currently in National Honor Society, Mayors Youth Council, Show Choir, and volunteers when available. He is extremely excited for the year ahead and is ready to make positive change. Abigail Wharton (she/her/hers) - Abigail Wharton is a freshman at Johnston Middle School and this is her first year in IYC. At school, she participates in mock trial, cross country, track and field, Iowa Students For Tobacco Education and Prevention, and her school’s chapter of March For Our Lives. Abigail is also the Communications Director at March For Our Lives Iowa and interns for Johnston City Councilman Suresh Reddy. She was recognized as a finalist in the New York Times Youth Editorial Contest where she advocated for the normalization of menstruation. In the future, she hopes to pursue a law, communications, or political science degree. Abigail is excited to begin her first year at IYC where she will continue to advocate the youth of Iowa. Adhitya Ajith (he/him/his) - Adhitya Ajith is a sophomore at Waukee High School and this is his second year participating in Iowa Youth Congress and is currently serving as the committee chair for the Environmental Committee.

    CIML High School Site Locations & Directions Ames High School -- 1921 Ames High Drive, Ames Exit off of I-35 at the 13th Street Exit and proceed west to Grand Avenue. At Grand, turn right and proceed to the 20th Street stop lights. At 20th and Grand, turn left and proceed west to the high school. Basketball, volleyball, swimming, track, wrestling, football, softball and soccer facilities are located at the high school. Baseball -- is located at Brookside Park. At 13th and Grand, turn left and proceed south to 6th Street, where you turn right and proceed west. After you cross the river, turn right into Brookside. Tennis -- is commonly held at Ames High and if necessary Innis Grove or Brookside Park (go to 24th and Grand and turn right and proceed east to the courts). Golf -- is normally held at Ames Golf & Country Club -- from 24th and Grand turn left and proceed west. Follow 24th (it becomes R-50) west and north to the Country Club which is approximately three miles north. Soccer -- played at AHS football stadium. Ankeny High School -- 1302 NW Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny Off I-35, take Exit 92 into Ankeny. You will be on 1st Street. Proceed west on 1st Street, to Ankeny Blvd. (Hwy 69). Turn north (right) on Ankeny Blvd. and proceed approximately 1/4 mile. The high school is on west side of highway. All athletic facilities except golf, cross country and tennis are located at or near the high school. Golf and cross country usually compete at Otter Creek Golf & Recreational Area, approximately two miles north of the school on Highway 69, then a mile east.

    Iowa Youth Congress Member Bios Central Region Adhitya Ajith Adhitya Ajith is a freshman at Timberline School in Waukee, Iowa. This is his first year participating in IYC. He is involved in many activities both in and out of school. Adhitya is an avid piano player and musician. He is also active in his school’s leadership clubs, and was selected to be an Ambassador for his freshman year. Ashley Xu Ashley Xu is a senior at Ames High School. This is her first year in IYC. Ashley is an active member of the music community in Iowa, and has been studying classical piano for 12 years, as well as volunteering with local food pantries. She is also a member of Ames High School’s student Ambassadors, mentoring and tutoring club for middle schools, Students Against Sexual Harassment club and was a member of the debate club. She plans on majoring in pre-med and plans to continue actively advocating for issues she is passionate about. Benton Renaud Benton Renaud is a senior at Ankeny Centennial High School. This is his first year as a member of IYC. Blake Van Der Kamp Blake Van Der Kamp is a senior at the PCM High School and is a first year member of IYC. Throughout High School he has been involved in FFA, NHS, SYBAC, and more. Following high school, Blake plans to major in Agriculture education and communications at Iowa State. Christopher Martin Christopher Martin is a 12-grader attending Ankeny Centennial High School. He will graduate from Des Moines Area Community College and Ankeny Centennial High School concurrently with an Honors Associates in Liberal Arts and a high school diploma in spring 2020.
